Staff of the Belzebonian Moon, or even "how to make lunar glass something a little more catastrophic and praise it"

Recommended Posts

The moon hides terrible, TERRIBLE powers!
It would take a new staff in the game, a staff of the Belzebonian Moon!
The recipe should be something very expensive, more or less something like this:

> image.png.ba584c7a35fd37ed6f1bbe2848ff4260.png

(Alternative recipe for Wilson the Barber image.png.fbeb3890a8d4a87c1d4d51c79824b926.png x1 image.png.b28909b922b581ce728e7c2f03a0101d.png x100 image.png.ba584c7a35fd37ed6f1bbe2848ff4260.png x1)

It would have 100 uses, each use do take ten of player's sanity permanents until the next new moon.
When used, the biome in which it is used is bombed for a day and a night by a meteor shower, which destroys everything on it.
But if it is used during the full moon ... the player loses all his sanity, and the biome is entirely "lunarized". After which the staff of the Belzebonian Moon explodes and the six spheres are dispersed throughout the game world!

But before the griefers can build it they have to find many rare materials!

Thats like a standard ruins rush and lunar rush worth of loot. Both can be done before day 11 (the first full moon) if you are determined/lucky enough. Its a good idea but the griefing potential holds it back. Its like the old bell argument where you can't do anythong against it except rollback or accept it.

I think saying no to content simply because it has the potential to lead to griefing is silly. I can say this about a torch really, which could deal the same amount of damage and require a roll back. Its just two grass and twigs to completely torch a base. Griefing will always happen, there really is no stopping that, so limiting the game just because its possible isn't a good idea.

Right, we also need a stellar meteor shower shield! So veteran players could defend their bases!

Something like that:

I'm pretty sure I'm on this guys ignore list but regardless here's some outlying problems:

  • It takes more than three unique items to craft—the game isn't set up to handle more than that. You could technically use something akin to the portal paraphernalia to get four (maybe more), but that's a structure thing anyway.
  • Lunar & Shadow magic seem to be opposing forces yet this recipe uses both—this is more of a theme issue that might be done later anyway.
  • 100 uses suffers a similar problem with the recipe, too bloated. Lower both.
  • "Lunarization" sounds cool, but it would make the already somewhat obsolete need to sail, even more obsolete—not to mention how would one go about "undoing" something like this? Irreversible environmental transformations are a bit ehh.
  • "The six spheres are dispersed throughout the game world" sounds neat but in reality this just makes crafting it a second time easier than the first. I'd also prefer thematic things like this stick with being used for things like the Large Iron Hulk instead of a player crafted item.
  • The meteor shower shield is a neat idea—mostly for allowing basing in meteor zones, not to avoid people with the staff griefing. Problem here is what happens to the meteors that hit the shield? Do they break and drop items in? This would probably need to be something fueled like the Flingomatic, and less like a lightning rod. Once again too many base materials.

What do you think as far as those points though? I don't think any idea is unsalvageable. I'd start with the recipe.

I'd say:

latest?cb=20160902192141latest?cb=20160902174905latest?cb=20190517195534

x1, x1, x5? (Green due to construction/destruction, "reforming the biome").
Maybe drop the meteor aspect of it all together but keep the lunarization part? Single use, or at least small radius multi-use?

I like the recipe. So I would do this:

  image.png.c35df3cb44138290a00d929323444dce.png x5 image.png.8656f34727eee8de29d34c92fe103e10.png x2 image.png.15fd790243c4d67e183bac428551bbc8.png x1 > image.png.e21a99742e13955b7f900df0e4d002b5.png "Filled" with image.png.0ae7d06118ab10a8b9907b4f46eefbac.png x5 > image.thumb.png.6d7947e77586f71ca112d78b169d08b1.png

I would like to keep the use of "nightmares" in the recipe because in some ways the staff causes the "destruction" of the moon, literally dropping it to pieces on earth. In short, it is a controversial power, linked to the moon and at the same time the result of its fragmentation.
However, you could give the staff 20 uses, also because the meteors do not deal large amounts of damage. I think their destruction on the game world is little higher than the evocation of a Beager or to find yourself a Deerclops at home, so I don't think that even that is a big problem.
The "lunarization" of a biome could last an entire lunar cycle, then it would return to normal. Meanwhile, all biome trees would become moon island trees, all rocks would become lunar glass rocks, etc. Of course, the staff would break immediately.
So it seems pretty good to me now, no?

Green Gems literally are what manipulates things, think about it, a Green Gem can either destroy a thing into its components, manipulating its structure to crumble to pieces, or it can construct a thing in an efficient way, manipulating its materials to full potential.

The fact that the recipe features 2 Green Moon Lenses, enhancing the gem's power, essentially explains how it destroys the moon
