Dynamix_Roxx
Is Oxygen Not Included coming to consoles in the future? Griftlands as well?
phod
I'd be surprised if they do, unless there's still more optimization coming to the game. The game's bottleneck is CPU, and most consoles don't have very high frequency processors. PS4 for example is just over 2ghz for the pro model, standard is 1.6ghz. While there certainly are faster processors than my PC has, my Intel i7-8700k 3.7ghz, GTX1080Ti with 32gb ram, late game gets surprisingly laggy. I can max settings on pretty much any other game I own and not feel any slow down. There's just a lot of calculations going on in ONI.
dearmad
I love how the OP wants it to run on a potato when it is fps challenged on real PCs... reality anyone?

I guess you haven’t heard of PS5? The game just came out and there is plenty of time for future releases. My PS4 is capable of running 4K HDR, can your potato PC even do that? YouKnowWho
The devs talked about it on stream at one point (don’t ask me which though.) and I remember the main problem they were thinking about when it comes to console were how there’s just so many buttons and switches to push. There’s like a billion overlays, modes, textboxes in textboxes; you get the idea. Basically it’d be a bit of a puzzle to map that all out to a controller without making it all frustrating. Hey, but they are considering it, yeah? So that’s good news.

Thanks to digital distribution, companies have more options to see if they can test ideas on consoles without it costing millions. Of course, why play a management game on a console? I don't know, but I for one should let our (slower) console brothers enjoy this game.

Never ever. which isnt even the main point of ONIs struggles anyway... Here have some gravy with your gloat.

I didn’t say no Pc, I said yours, seeing as you called the PS4 a potato in comparison. 7 hours ago, badgamer123 said: how to build a pipe network with controller... Ask FF14. They have like 60 inputs for each character available at the press of a button.

Asides from how extremely off-topic it is, you're missing their point entirely. ONI is not a graphically intensive game. A Gameboy could probably run ONI's graphics. ONI is a computation heavy game, which consoles just aren't built for.

It’s like running a million calculations on a super computer. I don’t see how it’s harder to run than any other game though. Call of Duty Blackout with 100 people online has less computations running behind the scenes than ONI? I just want to know if they are looking into it, or if I should forget about ONI. Yes definitely. Think of how much of it is static and unchanging. Even if every player had a sentry turret and threw a grenade at the same time, that's only 300 actors. That's at most 300 tiles in ONI.

It’s 100 people moving around on a map together. Real time bullet fights. Server lag matters. That was just one example too. How about like No mans sky, which I never played. It’s gotta be equally intensive. There has to be other games like that. Call of Duty install on my HDD is 100 gigs! Also, if it’s not capable of being run on a PS4 at all, I just want to know they have no plans to do it. Maybe they look into PS5, who knows. I’m just wondering where it goes from PC, if anywhere. That's still less than 100 tiles, all interacting with their neighbouring tile, with three layers all interacting with each other, plus the dupes, plus the liquids and gases. And you can maybe just fit a basic starting base in 100 tiles.

I'll give you No Man's Sky, since that's procedurally generated, but Call of Duty isn't really running that many calculations. 100 people is not 100 calculations, it's 100 inputs. The players are doing the calculating for the console.
JoeW
The answer to this question is always the same. When we know, we will announce it. But, we are always interested in bringing our games to as many platforms as possible, but it comes down to whether we have the resources to do it and how well the game does when it launches. When we know, we'll announce it here.
