There's a minimum size requirement on a Great Hall, which the Mess Hall lacks. Is the water cooler "entertainment?" It doesn't point out an error- and hovering over great hall description doesn't highlight any problems... I believe a crude painting is not even enough as its something like 18. An 2nd level artist makes a painting (normal painting size) for +24, that made it a great hall for me. I just make due with a mess hall since art is so worthless for the early game. Stack 2 mess halls on top of each other and when you finally have nothing useful to do and start adding decor you can combine them into one big great hall. Either they are decor items or they aren't. Contrived difficulty is always confusing. And it becomes a rabbit hole you can fall down (MMO raid mechanics I'm looking at you). Feels like the wrong game type for it. Seems like it would make more sense for them to just lower the morale of plants to below the +20 threshold required by a great hall. Plants are already pretty OP compared to other decor items. I don't disagree with the spirit of the change though. Being able to immediately build a great hall seemed a bit odd.
