Question about dreckos

Recommended Posts

I want to set up a drecko farm and I need to know how they eat plants.

Do they need to be near the roots of plants or just the tile that plant occupies. For example full mealwood is 3 tiles tall. Can drecko eat mealwood by touching its 3rd tile or does it have to touch the bottom?

As a person who loves making drecko farms, try making sure you get your farming tiles ready for mealworm and also get your hydrogen so their scales/wool  have a fast return. I recommend hydrogen for your dreckos as much as possible but mealworm would be best.

If you feed dreckos mealwood, they will begin to lay glossy drecko eggs. Glossy dreckos do make plastic. Once you have a few glossy dreckos, switch to bristle blossom to feed them. Water is easier to come by than dirt.

If you do want normal dreckos for reed fiber, balm lily is better than planted pepper nuts as balm lily needs nothing more than a layer of chlorine to grow and pepper nuts drink a lot of polluted water. Unless you move wild pepper nut plants with debug's Alt-Q command, there just isn't a high enough density to actively ranch tamed dreckos.

Note: the picture Augustinoi linked is @Neotuck's in base early drecko ranch. I use it to get my first few glosy drecko eggs to start my real outside base ranch.

@Szczuku here's a link that shows my drecko farms

while I agree, it should be noted that Pincha peppers are the only plant that can grow in hydrogen so you don'y have to mix the gases.  This allows for 100% up time scale growth rates

up to the player's personal playstyle :)

Does anybody know if Drecko wool grows when they are hungry? I might do an overcrowded shearing room where I collect all the excessive eggs if so.

They get a big slowdown if they get unhappy and starvation makes them unhappy. Just being hungry does not.

I do this. Works ok. I get free reed fiber and plastic and the only cost is dupe labor, some electricity and a delay of when I get my meat from the dead drecko.

Last i checked being gloom reduced reproduction rate and metabolism but didn`t affect scale growth rate so you could heavily overcrowd tamed dreckos and have them eat less but grow the same amounts of wool/plastic. I`m not sure if this changed recently.
