Intermediate vs. severe sickness

Recommended Posts

Slimelung seems to be "intermediate". Does anybody know whether food poisoning is "severe" or whether we even have "severe" at this time? The requirements for a cure for severe sickness (sun nymph egg, tungsten) seem to be a bit extreme. Is this basically a place-holder?

Both food posioning and silemlung are early game diseases. Slime biome is closer than ice biome with tungsten and getting a sun egg reliably requires ranching research. Usually the current diseases are a problem before that.

Maybe they will add more severe sicknesses with the new biomes at launch. Or maybe the current ones could get sever if untreated or exposed to more germs. I think it`s a work in progress.

I don't know if I like that advanced cure recipe. Tungsten is a limited resource, isn't it?

Also, it's a metal. Feels odd to feed heavy metal to Duplicants as medicine.

From wiki: "[Tungsten] was at first believed to be relatively inert and an only slightly toxic metal, but beginning in the year 2000, the risk presented by tungsten alloys, its dusts and particulates to induce cancer and several other adverse effects in animals as well as humans has been highlighted from in vitro and in vivo experiments."

Dupes don't really follow human physiology.

Tungsten being part of the cure says to me it won't be a finite resource in the future. Hopefully.

I was going to rant about needing tungsten since it is limited  but it only needs 1kg, so you can make 1000 pills with just 1 ton so it is not too bad....now the sun egg is a different story.  the fps hit alone needed to grow those is ugly.  might be better to wait for DUP to get better instead of bothering with treatment...which I think is true for all illness right now

When the severe illness shows up, it should either be treatable with time and no mega-cure or it will require the cure to remove the symptoms but not be fatal.  Otherwise it would require that you perpetually have the sun nymphs around (with their associated frame loss) for no other purpose than to make this cure in a hurry which would be a terrible design choice.

Option 3:  Make curable only via treatment and make it severe, but change the ingredients needed to make the cure to something less...cumbersome...to produce but still rare enough to make us work for it.

It is quite possible that the materials are place-holders. Along the lines of "you can make this now, but with ingredients like _this_ better make sure you actually check whether you need it first"...

This is just a wild guess, but if one of the new biomes turns out to contain radium, it is probably for curing radiation sickness.

I'm thinking  this as well.     New Biome will let us mine  radium  (Radiation Sickness)   is probably the best bet for severe illness.
