Food Calculator (Graphical)

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I had some more time this weekend to tinker with oni-assistant and have rolled out a new food calculator. It's pretty clean and simple:

  1. Input your dupe count (normal and bottomless stomach)
  2. Select how you want to feed them
  3. See the requirements to sustain the colony and follow hotlinks for more details.

I'm tinkering with a beta that allows factoring for fertilizer but, as always, I'm keen to hear feedback and potential tweaks.

Very cool!

I can sort of tell (or at least guess) what the icons stand for, but it'd be nice to have the tooltip say the name of the ingredient instead of just "click for more". Also, I tend to think in grams/sec, i'd love to have that metric available too.

First the dump of the data, now the layout and the design of the pages. Please let me know if I can give you all my 7 month work so I can shut down Oni Db :)
I know it's a hobby and I did it only out of passion and learn something new, but things like this make me want to shutdown and quit everything.

You shouldn't shut down oni-db. It's a great site and as I am (a) not a unity coder (b) not even trained/studied in computer programming, you have a clear advantage. Moreover, the community should have options. Monopoly breeds monotony and without healthy competition the community loses out.

I'm not going to not display information just becuase oni-db displays it too, the wiki has much of the same information (and R9MX4 beat both us a long time ago with his/her great posts on this forum). There doesn't need to be just one. I thoroughly encourage you to continue your great work.

Very nice. Maybe you could add difficulty settings too? My dupes eat way more than that :)

Don't react like that... You made a wonderfull tool. I bookmarked it right away and uses it everytime I play ONI. I think TunderLock just tried to use the original look of ONI to make his tool. So if you did a bit the same it's maybe because of that ?

I think I found a bug because the numbers are totally off on the second screenshot ^^

Oooops, bug on difficulties other than normal. Thanks for the note :) Patched :P. Caches should re-fresh shortly.

Now it's working fine ! Thanks for the tool. Very handy. The fertilizer part will be awesome when you're done with it. It's always very abstract to me what I would gain from using fertilizer. I will be able to try with each plant and then decide what I will do :)

After reading that, could we although have an option for "auto-harvest" or "duplicant-free harvest" ?

(Just show the current number of plants divided by their "growth time" and multiple it with their "growth time +4".)

Would it be possible to add a toggle option of the "farm" buff, also possibly showing the required fertilizer component too ?

That seems pretty important for largish bases with good sized populations. Doubling growth significantly cuts the material costs, but there's the issue of calculating how much dirt and polluted water you're consuming. Phospherite not so much since there's scads of it, though if you're OCD there's a secondary chain of figuring out how many Dreckos you need and how you're going to feed them.

@TunderLock : If I can help with formulas...

Fertilizer formulas is : 5 x number of plants kg.

Polluted water for fertilizer is : 1.625 kg per 5kg of fertilizer. So 1.625 kg per plant.

Dirt for fertilizer is : 2.708 kg per 5kg of fertilizer. So 2.708kg per plant.

Phosphorite is : 1.083 kg per 5kg of fertilizer. So 1.083kg per plant.

And you need 1 fertilizer synthetiser for every 14.4 plants.
