I'm not sure if a post about that has already been created, but I found it interesting to share. This can be seen in a few other skins, as well as on depth worms. So it's not an effect specific to the tesla coil lantern itself. But It seems it could be just a nod that the fuel has something to do with electrical things. But what caught my attention was the intensity of the change caused by nightmare cycles in the Tesla's lantern.
