Insulation Use

Question: Since the new insulation has thermal conductivity of 0.000 DTU, does that mean I can build regular tiles and pipes with perfect insulation? Or do I have to build insulated tiles and pipes?

Regular stuff uses an average of the mediums, insulated uses the lower of the two.

I believe so. Think of insulation as the replacement for abyssalite in this case. Might be not entirely accurate though so do check with others first too.

The actual conductivity is 0.0001 but the game doesn`t show it. Regular tiles and pipes made out of that material has the same properties abyssalite used to ahve. It was good as a non insulated tile for normal insulation use but wasn`t good enough for large temperature differences like liquid glass or LOX machines.

Yep. Not perfect. And use insulated tiles/pipes to get that very low value in the first place.

Before QOL, When the insulation first turn up, I pumped steam with regular insulation gas pipes, it will break, but with insulation gas pipes, you won`t

In that case I suggest vacuum seals.

If you can make insulation, you can make visco gel for easy liquid locks, which can be used to make vacuum seals.

 

For pipes you can use regular granite pipes kept in a vacuum environment; you'll want to cool the pipes down to LOX/LH2 temps first so that they don't break, but this is easily done by using a bridge to temporarily reroute super coolant from your aquatuner loop.

It`s faster to use radiant pipes in those scenarios. They cool down instantly and you shouldn`t lack iron at that point of the game.

All good points, but it rolls back to my second comment, the new insulation isn't good for much, in fact, I'm still looking for the first thing it would be good for.

I could formerly use abyssalite by the ton, and from early game. Doesn't seem to me I would be able to repeat that with insulation, unless space travel gets a lot faster and more rewarding.

The only pipes made of insulation inside my 1000+ cycle base are the fuel pipes inside my rocket silo.

(So I am able to let my liquid hydrogen/oxygen stay inside the pipes.)
