Meteorite suggest changes

Recommended Posts

1. The surface of the asteroid is a nice thing. But some things are wrongheaded. At the lategame, u build the blast doors  and after each meteor rain, u must dig the stuff on the blast door OR under it if they falling through the door. These stuff blocks the sunlight and is annoying. Imagine, u build from the left top map to the right top a solar panel line. After each Meteor Rain u must MANUALLY dig the crap. That is a really annoying micro transaction. And not a real good solution.

2. Another part is the massive amounts of the SAND clone (Reo... ?). It is too much!  Each meteor in the rain share round about 2000KG on the surface. U cannot store the stuff, so much it is.

3. Another thing is the power consumption. Place 4 Solar Panels in a line. How many Blast Doors u need to protect them AND to reach the max power output of the solar panel? 7 Blast Doors! How much consume one ?

480KW each one.

7x480KW = 3360KW

4x220KW Solar Panel = 880KW! BUT that they produce it just for little moments at 29999 LUX at the cycle.

How often per cycle the doors open or close ? TO MUCH! In my opinion, if u build the end game content, u lose more energy than u can produce. Sometimes, the doors opens or close two times per cycle. The whole thing must be redesigned. Either, the doors consumption must extremely reduced OR the Solar Panel output must be increased.

4. The Meteor Station. Is it the intention, that it must be build ON the surface and no bunker tiles are allowed to build over it ? If u build the bunker tiles over it, the tool tip of the station show a efficiency of 0%. I don't believe the station will life for a long time without the bunker tiles over it.

5. Steel. 800 KG Steel for one bunker door ? U need 3 ingredients to produce 100KG. The lime part is the most difficult of it.

You can place Blast Doors above the Meteor Stations, and with automation - have them closed during a meteor shower and open after it's over

Of course, it is doable, but that wasn't the point. The point is the consumption in whole. the doors need much time to open or close. I havn't calculate it, but my feelings are: "U lose more than u produce." It depends also on the meteor showers and the day time. If u are unlucky and the doors open near the night or close at the best day time at 29999 Lux, u have a 100% lose situation.

I agree to the full, original list of complaints. The surface is a nice addition, but as it is now, I will probably just wall it in when I can and use the void tiles to dump stuff. Anything that cannot (eventually) be fully automated is something I will try very hard to do without and clearing meteor debris does not seem accessible to automaton at this time.

The top is just far too open, I would rather have had veins where there is no neutronium which allows dupes to burrow to the surface, this way they could also make the topside more violent and increase the reward gain.

There are many different ways they could go about it, but right now if you don't protect the surface you risk losing your entire asteroid. Sure new blocks are created, but that doesn't mean that there always will be, you might luck out or you might get the worst luck ever.

At least if its neutrinoum capped then it will never penetrate to the inner core, and you could literally have much more dangers i.e bigger meteors, intense temperatures. Currently if a big one hit you would just be gone, if it gets too hot (If they decide to make heat transfer from the sun) then the biomes would melt and cook. Just a lot of things they could change.

I guess maybe being able to make zones in which duplicants will always automatically dig tiles would solve this? It probably wouldn't hurt to add such zones for sweeping and moping, either.

The relatively low power production of the solar panels seem balanced to me, so if it were up to me I would lower the consumption of the doors.

They could add naturally generated limestone to the world and make egg shells a secondary renewable way of getting it.

I haven't watched them long enough to tell but do meteors ever come down in straight lines?

or can we just build columns of bunker wall and let some light in without using blast doors and blocking most meteors?

We already have something in the worldgen that's pretty much useless and makes for an appropriate source of early-game limestone after refinement: Sedimentary rock!

Let us process it in some machine like the rock granulator (or kiln?) to get limestone and allow players to get started making steel without the whole egg shell thing, as from the reading I've done and my own brief experiments in Ranching 2, managing population-stable ranches on a large scale appears to be infeasible due to the micromanagement (and dupe time) required.

I actually use sedimentary rock to breed stone hatches (which I need to breed smooth hatches), so sedimentary rock has become useful infact. Still, that's besides the point, and there's more than enough sedimentary rock to profit from that idea!

You could build some heating system using motlen glas to liquify the debris and let the liquid vent into space.

Or you can place some automatic dig orders above the blast door ;)

(Just build a building somewhere, where it will have a "invalid building location"-tag. Now your dupes will dig every block occupying this place. So with some access control for your duplicants you can automate the digging and if you drop any debris with an auto-sweeper in one place everything above 100t (5 times the volume of a compactor) should vanish on reload)

I totally agree that the toal mass of sand hitting your asteroid every shower is to much to store. (But I think 2000Kg is not to big for a meteor)

If you don´t build a huge battery farm to store the needed power to close your blast doors this system will net you power.

(I use my electrolyzer with my solar panels, so instead of batteries I use hydrogen tanks to store energy without loss)

If the bunker door above the meteor station is closing the station still emits a signal till the shower ends.

Let´s be real the only use-case of bunker doors is covering the top layer. So there is just a need for max 63 bunker doors and the door has a "reasonable" cost for it´s size (compared to other doors). So I think 800Kg of steel is a fair, we just need a way to refine all of our egg shells to lime ;) (Start a new base, don´t build a compost and you will have a good amount of lime even before your close to the surface)

Can't you just stack a ton of solar panels on top of each other on window tiles? Stack it 4 rows high and you have almost 4Kw of power."
They no longer produce heat from on of the recent updates so you don't need to worry about that. I think power is fine if set up properly.

One of the solutions may be is when you reach 100% with your meteor stations you can get a meteor forecast. You will look into forecast and sometimes there will be windows when there are no meteors in the cycle at all(it will happen now and then few times with some regularity) and you open your bunker doors then so that solar pannels actually make more energy than you spent on opening the doors.

I like your ideas alot. I agree on bunker doors being fair. In discription it says the door can withstand huge pressures also so maybe there will some day be an even better vents that let you make even more extreme pressures which could destroy a normal tile.
