Madbro
Hello guys! (•ω•) Before you read, please receive my following warnings: Spoiler WARNING: This post will be f**king long. If you don’t prefer reading this, it’s your own choice. However you can just simply have a look on my concept arts to make this, short. Welcome to the hell of coldness! (Or, Sub-Zero Asteroid) This DLC idea is inspired by Frostpunk, which is an amazing game. To survive the coldness. 1. The S.T.E.A.M. (along with start off) Spoiler In this DLC your largest enemy is extremly cold temperature (along with Oxygen followed by scarce renewable food supply) which initially at -50°C, throughout the asteroid. Don’t worry about the freezing start off, all duplicants you are given at the beginning are equipped with Frostland Coat that is very insulative. Your first problem is warmth, especially your Prototype (printing) Pod is frozen after printing 3 duplicants and frostland suits can’t keep duplicants warm all the time. Here is the machine abounded by the Gravitas Sub-Zero Lab Facility: S.T.E.A.M. (Steampower Tower (of) Enhanced Antifreeze Machine) This prototype machine, luckily, is well kept. At a emergency priority you must fill it with coal and water to generate warmth, steam (converted from water or cold steam or ice), and 1000W electricity. After that if the surrounding temperature of the prototype pod is over -25°C, your printing pod comes under operation! Same as the printing pod before. 2. Concept arts Spoiler Here are also some concept art about my DLC ideas. 3. Steam Power Usage Spoiler In this freezing world, you can build insulative pipes without tech. Also, what you relied on is the steam power at the beginning. The S.T.E.A.M. comverts water or ice into steam at incredible instant rate. S.T.E.A.M. also reheats cold steam. So how the steam is used? From my concept art you can see two buildings that probably needs steam: 1. Steam Engine Not the steam turbine, however, it has an advantage that you won’t have to do many gas management. As everything is done with pipes. Input it with hot steam which is at least 150°C will push the engine and generates 600W power. Outputs colder steam (with a temperature difference of 40°C) into the pipelines. 2. Steampower hearth Just simply use the temperature of steam to heat up the surroundings up to 20°C (after reaching that temperature it will not consume steam.) Input steam, outputs colder steam. 4. Obtaining Water Spoiler Oh wait, I think I have forgotten something important. We’ll need water, especially essential for S.T.E.A.M. operation, farming and advanced research using S.Computer, along with flush toilets. Here I’ll bring you a good news: Now you have your ice melter - An efficient melter which only uses 60W power. However it only melts clean ice, it don’t serve polluted ice. Later you’ll have to research an ice purifier (artwork not here yet). Water problem is not yet done. We have to prevent it from freezing again. So I also suggested an insulated liquid tank along. Can be manually filled with bottles (You can switch this whether it should or should not be filled using pitcher pump.) By the way, insulative gas tank is also given to store fresh hot steam. For the much harder ice Tundra Crystal, you'll need a miner to dig it, or heat it up to 40°C to melt it down. Also, if you want to melt it into water, you'll need a stronger melter called Thaw Furnace. Thaw Furnace also releases frozen items stuck inside the tundra crystal. 5. Next up: Food. Spoiler At those freezing places, food is scarce (as I mentioned before). At the beginning you are given 15000KCal nutrition bars inside the ration box. As well it can’t hold long. In the freezing asteroid you can find some Frostroots growing naturally. Harvest them for temporarily food, keep their seeds as well. Sleet wheat are grown here too, however less than what you expect. 6. Coal Sustainability Spoiler In here, coal is your lifeline. Although around your starting position you have many deposits of them. Without coal, you can't run S.T.E.A.M. as well as Boiler Towers. And your duplicants will freeze to death. Here ranching still works, however, you have to ranch a bigger cousin of Hatch: Yeti Hatch. ( @Sasza22) This variant eats ice and frozen rocks. It consumes 2 times more than an ordinary Hatch, however, the coal output worth 5 Hatch. However the re-productivity also decreases. Also I would note that, It's fur can be shaved off (or killed) for fibers, which is essential for making Frostland suits and building Warm Cots. 7. Thermal Hazards Spoiler What can thermal hazard cause? Illness and sickness. Here in this DLC idea a new disease is introduced. Frozen Limbs. Duplicants get this disease when body temperature reached 0°C. There is no actual cure for this, but what you can do is doing surgery to cut the frozen limbs off with the definite risk of being handicapped. Now here @babba's wheelchair idea is useful. Making some replacement mechanical limbs (R.M.L.) in Mechanic's Workshop will allow them to rejoin their jobs - using their new limbs. 8. Accommodation & Entertainment Spoiler Your Duplicants need a place for good sleep and relax. Especially, this place is damn cold. Here, new challenges on the accommodation are given to players. Building cots and beds will require fibers for warm sleep. Also they both have a new nice skin. It's too foolish to have a water cooler here, because you won't need to cool water. Instead, you have the slightly electricity-consuming Water Warmer which requires 5W electricity to operate - Every time when a duplicant is using this. As well, Sauna Chamber will replace massage bed. Consumes steam instead, however it reduces stress in a faster rate. 9. Temperature management / resistant structures, and materials Spoiler Besides the steampower hearth mentioned before, I also have put some wise ideas here. 1. Insulated Airlock (Won't need me to explain?) 2. Antifreeze Battery A battery variant that has a wider acceptable operation range, it is less likely to be affected by temperature. 3. Isorium An exclusive metal in this DLC that has a low temperature conductivity. 10. MECHAS! Spoiler Note not all working environments are suitable for work, especially, you don't have copper on this asteroid, means, NO ATMO SUITS. You will need some advanced automatons, which means, replacing duplicants' jobs such as mining jobs up to Miner ranks and construction plus sweeping and farming. I have an idea here (also in my concept arts), Mecha Hatchy. Requires electricity to run. This is manufactured from Mechanic's Workshop. Or consider my Exodrives. Anyway I think we'll need some machines to work in freezing environment. 11. 'Break'-through to the surface and special climate Spoiler Surprisingly, the Gravitas Sub-Zero Lab Facility managed to terraform the asteroid. This asteroid has a thin layer of oxygen atmosphere while the stars are still visible. There is a flow of oxygen on the surface supplying you endless oxygen. However... It is cold too, at about -45°C. A gift but also a constant threat, not just it is cold, it also accumulates gas pressure on non-sloped structures, cracking them. I have tested whether bunker blocks are vulnerable to pressure damage, and the answer is YES. The endless winter wind also brings some small ice comets along the way. Let's say, how worse can it go? BLIZZARDS of hail storm dropping large ice comets and bulks of snow comets. With super-cold wind of -120°C. Here instead of meteor sensors, you have storm sensors detecting wind changes. Wait, did I said, wind? It's also the time for the exclusive sustainable power in this DLC idea - The wind energy, collected using Wind Turbines. However, you have to disable this on time before the storm strikes because strong wind can break the blades. (the 'disabled' mode is also called the 'protection mode'.) That's all of my DLC idea sharing. Hope you guys like it! PLEASE SUPPORT & COMMENT! (•ω•)
Sasza22
It would be fun to have a scenario where the surroundigs are cold instead of hot. Maybe also add freezing damage to buildings below a certain treshold and the possibility for dupes to freeze to death. Also hibernating critters frozen solid that you could uncover. You find frozen pacu and hatches randomly that could be unfrozen if you manage to keep the temperature high enough for them (maybe even an ice eating hatch morph). mr peeps
Holy Jesus and the 3 wise men, this is amazing. You draw so well! Also, I've always really wanted some sort of harder icy world. This stuff is awesome! (Also, the whole... cutting limbs off thing is uh... a little... extreme for a Klei game.)
Vincie
2 minutes ago, mr peeps said: (Also, the whole... cutting limbs off thing is uh... a little... extreme for a Klei game.) In Don't Starve you put turds in your pockets, eat intelligent pigs' meat, hit them with it, feed them theirs' friends' hams, than put pig skin helmets on their heads, get high on mushrooms, snap bunnies' necks and do other fun stuff. A medical procedure is in it's place and limbs could be regrown, using some sort of cellular growth tube.

Yeah, a bit extreme anyway. A bloody solution for frozen limbs. However this also take place in our real world.
mr peeps
@Madbro yes but this is also a game where they start crying when they get a bit stressed out XD. And @Vincie in ds, there's no/very very little blood in it, sure some... distasteful things but not full on amputations!!
Daxterr
Normally, I would say this is too crazy and ambitious, but damn you have some good ideas Madbro. I'd love to see the sauna in the normal game too.
TurtleKitty
This is amazing. If not DLC then definitely a mod. The STEAM, surgery bed, Yeti Hatch, and heat drill in particular are astounding concepts.
cpy
Sounds like Frostpunk ported to ONI. I already have Frostpunk so, meh. You pretty much do everything you said in Frostpunk. Storms, coal shortage, worker shortage, frozen limbs, deaths. Exploration, morale and hope. This game got it all! Also you have lot of steam power and steampunk mechs. Also you have lot of steam power and steampunk mechs. That’s for real... I got addicted on frostpunk for the entire week... And steampunk style stuff. (•ω•) So now I would say sometimes I am not 100% original, about 40%~55% of my ideas. And some of them inspired by other player’s ideas like @babba... (Known for always talking about his computer... however he can take some example form the reality to enrich his posts and comments) Meanwhile some of my old scrap ideas such as geyser pumps based on oil rig’s mechanism are original ideas. Although, I don’t know about those old archived posts. Seldom I am notified by others that sinior dudes already had those ideas already.
babba
They could implement some freezing of bodies, my dupes work at -150 Celsius in my map, I am not joking. A bit of Rimworld would be great.

karyuendan08
I dont have the skills to draw it Nuclear Power Nuclear Energy Generator: - uses uranium to create energy - has to be part submerged to work ( i imagined it having two rods that has to be submerged) - outputs huge heat ( in the rods submerged) - outputs radiation steam (No output port) (causes a new type of "diseases" if direct contact) - outputs radioactive reject Nuclear Exosuit - Prevent the dupes to be afect from radiation from nuclear steam or nuclear rejects. Nuclear Steam - new gas Nuclear Reject - new liquid - (causes a new type of "diseases" if direct contact) - can be tread to return part of the uranium 30%? Macrofit Plant - aquatic plant - lives in liquids (submerged) - can live inside nuclear rejects - ouputs (metal ore maybe? when inside radioative reject!) NOT FOOD! Obs: i read an article that a student was showing how to purify liquid radioactive rejects with this plants.
