Craigjw
When a dupe becomes idle, they tend to hang around in the last area that they had a job, ie in the middle of the lava biome at searing temperatures, or in the middle of a really toxic polluted O2 area, filling their lungs with lovely slimelung, when they are moved, they sometimes return to this area, just to hang out. I'd really like to see that idle dupes automatically do leisure and self destruct de-stress in the nice and safe recreation room as they would in a normal break time. This would kill two dupes birds with one stone, firstly, it would be useful to help get rid of excess stress without the need for specifying +4 breaks and or entering the massage clinic. Secondly, they would avoid that annoying tendency to hang out in toxic environments that kill them that little bit quicker. I think that we all agree that early game, when your dupes are mining that slime biome without exo-suits, hanging out in toxic PO2 is just plain annoying. Ixenzo
There needs to be an Anything option in the schedule. Got no work and stressed out? Go to clinic. Got no work and not stressed out? Go diddle yourself or something.
Craigjw
A mandatory and obligatory work period would be nice, however, I think having an obligatory work time period would be overly complex to implement; how do you decide what criteria will cause the dupes to enter leisure instead of doing work, I can foresee dupes setting off to do a job, getting 1/2 way there and encountering a little stress, then dropping the job by returning to the recreation room, resulting in jobs never getting done. I think having the dupes automatically defaulting to break time when Idle, would circumvent several problems, without causing further issue, while also, it shouldn't be too complex to implement (He says...) SakuraKoi
Duplicants are workaholics, idling in hazards is their passive aggressive way of telling "We might as well die if we can not work!". Don't make Dupes do that, create a job today at www.GiveADupeAJob.org! Every contribution helps to randomly place 1mcg of debris to store somewhere*. *Storage Compactor with correct settings needed. Can not help dupes who can not haul. Will take jobs from storage dupes. Internet connection and Dolphin.dll required. Service will terminate on the 11/14/2018, thank you to nobody who contributed. crypticorb
All of these complaints are directly related to the duplicant AI behavior. The more we complain about it, the more likely devs are to see it and fix the problems underlying with dupes, pathing, and AI.

You mean 14/11/2018, Metric only please... I do agree that giving dupes a job will ease this, however, when I want my cooks to cook, I don't want them spending the day walking to the other side of the map to fetch a piece of regolith, which you know he's going to drop in the most inappropriate place possible. This is actually a really good idea. My current 16-dupe base is so efficiently run that major construction projects are completed before I can come up with new projects, and re-occuring tasks such as ranching, farming, and cooking are mostly automated. Idle dupes happen a lot, and a bit of extra power generation while decor-bombing would be beneficial.

0xFADE
Other than auto omelettes arms can deliver raw food.
Jumpp
Well, sure. But I mean: If your sweeper delivers wheat and peppers to a stove, can it produce pepper bread without a dupe sitting there beating on it with a spatula?

But I mean: If your sweeper delivers wheat and peppers to a stove, can it produce pepper bread without a dupe sitting there beating on it with a spatula? No, unfortunately. Other than omelettes cooking themselves when eggs are heated, you still need to have a dupe who can cook. Other than that, you can mostly automate all food production. You can have fertilizers delivered automatically via auto-sweepers and shipping rails, have the food shipped out when it drops, and have food delivered directly to the grills, but there's a couple things you cannot automate. The farmers touch can't be automated, dupes must still make the stuff and apply it. Harvesting can be automated, but not always worth it. Allow an extra 4 cycles of fertilizer/irrigation to flow after harvest ready, and the plant will harvest itself. This is most effective on long-growth plants like peppers and wheat. Cooking can't be automated. If you have a single or pair of extremely high skilled dedicated farmers and cooks, you can cook and farm extremely fast, and the delays are negligible. Gurgel
I would like a game-table, a pub or something like that were idle dupes go and have fun.

They wouldn't be able to work after visiting the pub, everything they touch would break due to inebriation!
PhailRaptor
Honestly if Dupes are Idle, they should make their way to the Rec Room, if you have one, or otherwise the Printer Pod.

Craigjw
I can accept that, it's logically decremental. 5 hours ago, PhailRaptor said: Honestly if Dupes are Idle, they should make their way to the Rec Room, if you have one, or otherwise the Printer Pod. Yes, to the printer pod, to get re-printed due to their complete stupidity.....

If they can`t reach them there should be a "dupe stuck" message instead of "idle". Would help new players identify when a dupe needs attention. Make a low priority workout room with hamster wheels or something. i have one of these in my current base . It's also good to have in case of emergencies where you run out of power. When the natural gas geysers go dormant you need some seperate power source to start the power plants up again and thats where the hamster wheels wiring leads to. In fact if I ever run out of power the duplicants can't even leave the base because the exosuit docks stop working. So they just default to the hamster wheels. And it doubles up as a training room to get everyone's operating skill up. I have all 21 dupes using the hamster wheels sometimes when theres nothing to do. Also if you build a 'closed' base with only one exit using atmosuits the dupes will just sit in the base anyway and not leave it if theres no work to do usually. Never had any dupes idle anywhere other than inside the base. You could also make a 'hydrofan' room somewhere next to a water pump. Mines even lower priority than the hamster wheels. Next to a steam and nat gas geyser. Other things you can do.. Train everyone as a rancher and have a lot of ranches with a lot of grooming stations. Usually always a critter that needs grooming.
