Light heat so much ?

Recommended Posts

How many lights do you have?

You really don't need more than is required for bristle blossoms. If you insist on lighting everything for the decor, or simply preference, you'll have to deal with heat. Either install an air conditioning system on your oxygen source to combat the heat, or use a coolant radiator throughout the base.

To maximize lighting, make all floors and walls out of glass or airflow tiles, and build only a few lights per room.

Yeah but that suck man, i want to light my whole base, because it better looking, why light heat that much wtf seriously ? We can go to space but can't light our base because we will die from heat O_O

I'm a little surprised, let stay in the dark then, no choice i guess, i was thinking light everywhere should be Something to do.

No energy is lost in the game. Outside biomes are warmer. If you produce heat of any kind it adds up. Light doesn`t produce too much iirc but it gets annoying for bristle farms. Deoxydizers, research stations, bateries all heat up your early base. But with proper layout heat is not a problem until you start using geyser water.

Hello !

All the time i light up my whole base, my base become to heat so much already, in 2 - 3 cycle all my base go from green (temperate) to orange (hot).

I have remove all my light, because of this.

Yes, lights add heat.  Not a lot, but without automation they're on 100% of the time.  It adds up.

why airflow tiles?

Light goes through airflow tiles.

The Water Sieve proves you wrong.  As does the act of digging, due to the mass loss (the heat goes with it).  Plants, Dupes, and Critters all delete the heat in whatever they consume, as well.  And most buildings that produce a new resource (instead of converting one to another) do so at either a fixed temperature, or based on the temperature of the building, both of which can be manipulated to become excellent heat deletion methods.

Actually, the game is pretty bad at conserving energy...

Yes guys i know how to cool my base, even if its not realy easy to do because of all the pipe (with radiant pipe) and cold water) but seriously i didn't know the light heat so much, one light heat more than the cool ventilo, so now i never light my base anymore (except for some plant) but that the deal.

Because airflow. Not because of the light permeability. Mesh tiles work too. You're correct that it doesn't help with light, but it's still useful to mention.

It's a good idea to have airflow tiles at the corners of rooms to allow CO2 to flow, even if it sacrifices a bit of light in corners as well as a bit of decor or runspeed bonus.

I wonder when full release comes out they will dim the dark areas like they did in early beta

It looked cool but made testing difficult so it was removed

gotcha, I use airflow tiles for my rooms too

also I like to trap wild shine bugs in my barracks early game to help with decor, easy to do just build a compactor in your barracks, set it to shine eggs, then deconstruct once you have 3 (any more and you risk overcrowding)

But to be serious this is not very realist, a little light heat a whole room, c'mon please.

Light up all our room should be a must have to do, its look realist when you have access to power, you need to use it for some confort for everyone sanity, be in the dark is not cool.

ONI light bulbs are incandescent bulbs, which means they generate LOTS of heat. Those types of light bulbs have been phased out of markets for the last decade because of how much power they waste into heat, compared to florescence bulbs or LEDs, which generate comparably negligible heat.

The amount of heat the lights in game generate is not unrealistic. The only thing that is silly is that a space-faring crew is using decades outdated technology.

And talking about realism...light bulb with conical light....priceless...

They are most likely based on floodlights, which are themselves conical in nature, and the interior has a reflective surface to reflect the light downward.  Such bulbs are usually recessed into the ceiling to more or less hide them.

C'mon now, let's be honest.  Dupes aren't exactly the brightest bulbs here.....
