The anime, furry and meme characters flooding the workshop is part of the problem, but another issue is artstyle. I've seen very few artists actually able to mimic Klei's style to a degree that it blends in perfectly with the rest of the game. In most cases they'll get close, but it looks a little off when ingame. Don't get me wrong, I've seen a lot of community skin concepts I'd love to see in the game.
