There is a huge leap between "lets drip a bit of liquid into this other liquid to cool it down" and "lets drip this liquid on a tile half submersed in this bigger body of liquid to then rapidly and disproportionally cool the huge body of liquid". It is a logical anomaly in the physics model of the game, something you'd never instinctively find if you didnt stumble on it or read it somewhere. The only reason it is wrong to call it an outright "exploit" (or "feature" for that matter) is because the devs have been completely airtight about the matter. I personally think it is a bug, but the devs have not fixed it because there is a huge thermodynamics update down the line. Everything about thermodynamics currently screams "wonky". But this as well, is utter speculation. I am not a dev, and you are not one either. Falcahtas
has klei actually addressed the cooling bug? It don't think was intended and was wondering if they eventually fix it Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/89479-all-helpful-exploit/page/3/#findComment-1023742 Share on other sites

The drip cooling bug emerged immediately after the fix for the "drip deletion" bug. Simply put, dripping liquids used to delete liquids. That no longer happens. Somehow, in fixing that, they broke heat transfer/mixing in fixing the mass. Which suggests that fixing the drip cooling bug shouldn't be particularly hard, after all, it's just an extension of the mass fix, right? Yet drip cooling is still present in the game for a pretty significant duration. There must be a reason they haven't fixed it yet. But I doubt it's because they are waiting for a Thermal Update mark 2 (the first was before Agriculture). The only sensible conclusion we can draw about the situation is that the devs must still be undecided as to whether or not they should fix it. Or they are withholding the fix until much closer to release, to ensure we can torture test every aspect of the game going forward, every new machine or natural formation they come up with. Kasuha
1 hour ago, Cataca said: but the devs have not fixed it because there is a huge thermodynamics update down the line We already have a 'huge thermodynamics update' behind us. It was called Thermal Update and it came when the game was still in Alpha. Since then, we're getting occasional thermodynamics tweaks and fixes but it runs on a budget to not hinder progress in implementation of planned features. I believe the drip cooling bug will get fixed eventually just like the tepidizer unlimited heating bug was fixed, it's just waiting for its turn. FIXBUGFIXBUGFIX
In my observation, most topics, which concentrate on how to make use of drip cooling, will finally change to endless debates about whether drip cooling is a bug or a feature. Does it really matter? A bug may never be fixed, and a feature may be replaced by a better feature. Only devs have the right to make the final decision. But AFAIK, devs' only response to drip cooling is "Changed Status to Known Issue" Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/89479-all-helpful-exploit/page/3/#findComment-1023825 Share on other sites

We've all asked them on stream - at least they read/acknowledge your question - I posed it three times over the course of the last stream and was blanked every time I even watched as Jambell read through twitch chat then turned away and focused on something entirely more interesting Can't blame them really if it's either a) a problem that can't be fixed right now, or b) something that's already in the pipeline. It'll be fixed if it's fixed - as is always the case with early access malarkey. NanoD
My thought is that they feel like they dont have a solution on how to cool down stuff yet. So they let us have this "feature" for now, until they have solution for the problem with cooling.
