GIVE A USE TO SEEDS PLEASE! (other than farming)

OK, so... What is the most useless resource in Oxygen Not Included, I'll wait... (5 seconds pass) IT'S SEEDS!!! I know that seeds are essential for life in ONI, but after a while, and your farms are full, the seeds just begin to pile up, more and more, so give them a use, here's an idea, make it so that you can give things (composed of genetic ooze) to the bio printer to add genetic ooze to the bio printer and copy the genetic structure of the object in question so it can use that info to print the copied object using charged or added genetic ooze.

Composting seems to be the simplest option, the only issue is making sure you don't accidentally compost more then you want.  Most game would solve this with a 'keep minimum of X in stock' based commands to your storage or consumption structures but that's not something ONI can do right now and it's probably a lot of code for just handling seeds.

Maybe give the composter a queue (like a grill or metal refinery) in which seeds (or other things that the player might want to compost but can also be used in other ways, like I don't know dead Dupe bodies?) can be ordered composted individually or continuously.

Keep in mind that seeds have a very low mass, 1 kg each.  Composting would only practically serve to dispose of them, which would be a good thing to be able to do.  I would like a good way to maintain a stockpile of seeds for when I need to expand my farm.  I shouldn't have to lock the dupes out of the room.  All you would need to do is only compost if you can't store them.

Totally agree for one main reason: farmers yield all these extra seeds but in a short while you never need them once you establish your farms. You get a small boost to farming and the ability to use the farming station eventually, but in the meantime the farmer job is pretty useless once you are set up with your first mealwood farm.

One solution aside from composting would be that plants have a lifecycle and need to be replanted (automatically) after X cycles, which needs a seed. Maybe to avoid you running out of seeds on the map entirely you could make them in a bio machine  (though it would need to be expensive and time consuming so you couldn't just make OP farms).

This used to be how it was, which forces players to think about how to get the best yields from plants otherwise they would not get seeds. I miss those days

Ah now it makes sense why seeds are such a big deal still.

Having said all that, I can't say I'd find seed management very interesting if they reitnroduced it, its just a bit silly now how you end up with hundreds of seeds getting produced, cluttering up your farms. I had over 100 extra mealwood seeds within 30-50 cycles of setting up my mealwood farm, for example.

Or we use seeds to make "vegetal oil". by a new machine who press the seeds to oil.

And we can find different uses for this oil
- Lamp using oil ( no power needed)
- For consumption by dupes, ( new recipes ( use it to Fry something for example....), or in extra for some recipe)
- Become Lubricant to increase the production of some mechanical buildings ( or for Convoyer)
- To become Fuel ( with may be  a Diesel Engine)
 - Using to make Soap ( Increase the cleaning effect of Shower and wash basin ), or Paint and color (to be able to paint canvas for example)

 personally I'd like to see a return to the agriculture lifecycle where plants need to be periodically reseeded.  But with less "it has to be kept within a very tiny condition range or else you're screwed" then the first time around. 

Yall wrong, and i didnt even read the whole post. I dont want to trash, compost or delete seeds. I want to turn them into kcal. Thinking about a bagel fulla delicious random seeds, yummy. Oh, pumpkin seeds!

Dupe field snack made with stuff and seeds, so they dont have to run back to eat right before they dig that tile that will explode everything. They eat the snack and stay along for a while more, an energy bar to say so. Or astronaut slush goo, dunno, but if has seeds, its good

Summary: seeds+random surplus stuff=field rations.

Ill have another beer thinking about how silly my post was, hope you make some sense out of it :)
