llunak Posted March 10, 2018 Share Posted March 10, 2018 In current R1, I try to breed hatches and use excess eggs for cooking (i.e. the same way one would in real life treat e.g. chicken). Except that it is not possible to select an egg for the incubator if the egg is not available, which makes things difficult. I have a grill with omelette recipe, dupes will take all eggs and put them there, which means that I have to catch the exact specific moment when an egg is available, which requires paying constant attention. There's a somewhat similar problem also with plants, where I need the specific seed in order to plant it. So if I e.g. see a wheezewort, I can set up a flower pot, but I need to come back later only after dupes actually dig the wheezewort up. In this case however this can be at least worked around by copying settings from another pot (which shows that this is merely a UI thing). I think it should be possible to select an egg for the incubator regardless of whether it's available or not. Maybe even better, the incubator should use UI in the style of the grill, allowing to queue up which eggs to incubate. Not a big deal as it takes ten cycles or about 1.5 hour game time x1 to hatch an egg. I like the manual approach here. But I can see the problem if the goal is a 100 hatch farm. Or automated meat production. That way the eggs will go to the incubator.... assuming you have clicked on the incubator to have it activate, which I also wish was queue-able. I donno if it might be worth it to have several incubators all use one egg versus 1 incubator doing them all, same power consumption over a shorter time. but still a pain. Put a storage in it with 9 priority. Put cooking in a separate room with a door and deny access to your rancher. Put a storage with priority 8 just outside of your kitchen. Then your rancher will prioritize using eggs for incubating and use excess in the electric grill. Tell me if it works! Coming up with workarounds is not the point of this forum, they should be considered off topic unless one is actually making an argument that such play-style should actually be the norm and that no change to the game is needed (which I don't think anyone is doing here). On a related note do people feel that eggs should be able to be eaten raw (Rocky Balboa style)? Instructions already somewhat posted on this thread. The initial point was that problem solving is part of the experience. One can always watch guides, ask for easier to understand mechanics, etc. But as a major RTS player who enjoys a more hands on approach to learning it kills most of the enjoyment for me. Now of course this may not be the case for many, but I wasn't talking about anyone else's save my own personal preference; hence the "imo". If you'd ask under more reasonable circumstances I wouldn't hesitate to show you, but I don't feel that's the case here so I'll not. At present the complaints are not about "thinking outside the box" its literally boiling down to "the games not done" "this is how I'm trying to get around it" "Show me!" "No cuz I don't like your attitude" to be fair, oozinator is not an american english speaker, in my experience(+100 post interactions). As for hand holding, well, thats an opinionated statement any which way it is spun. imo. the reason for the request is simple, are you doing something new, if so, please share. If you fear criticism that is fair enough but talk gets cheap fast if you provide not even so much as a tiny screen shot. I can't speak for everyone but I am curious. I don't follow life grow or brothgar or anyone elses "way" I do what works even if it "feels" wrong because the game, at present, is massively broken in a variety of ways but constantly changing. Where he genuinely interested in my solution asking would have been simple enough. Instead he opted to ask for a screenshot of my base. This entails he already presumed to know that it isn't without its flaws and was simply seeking a tongue & cheek method to dissect and discredit it while pointing out that this release doesn't garner the most optimal implementation of its new features; of which I'm well aware of. Its why when asked for clarification as to the purpose of my screenshot his response alone was very telling and is what lead me to my conclusion, wrong or otherwise. Its people who think outside of the box who usually come up with new and amazing ideas. Oozinator is weird but all he asked was to see screenshots, maybe he had a problem and you held the solution, but we will never know. I have to agree with the others, if you ask me your stuck inside the box and do not seem to like the concept of sharing and working together whilst trying to sound high and mighty.
