i knew it!!!

I kinda wish devs didn't introduce genders into the game. Especially not the silly ones. At least until it has some role in the game which doesn't seem to be the case to me. They have no sex, no marriages, no kids. They all run, work, breathe, eat, poop, sleep. That's all that matters.

I was thinking the same thing, but cancelled my post. I always just pictured them as "dupes" not males or females. Now that they DO have genders, are we going to have to keep separate barracks to avoid dupe babies? If we keep taking NB dupes, will that prevent them from breeding?

I preferred thinking they were just like dolls down there with no functional bits because of defects in the printing pod.

'Silly' genders? In 2018?

Well, "silly" it's not the right term here. It's just not officially recognized by WMA.

This doesn't mean someone who consider him/her-self a non-binary being must be discriminated or mistreated.

Biologically speaking, human race is made by male and female beings. There are very rare chromosome abnormalities, but they are not considered a gender per se.

I hope this isn't gonna drag Klei into some sort of 'guurrr theyre sjws!!!' nonsense, but I still prefered when there was literally no 'status' of female or male, other than in their description where it was described as 'She' or 'He', but it was still a completely irrelevant stat, it had it own type of charm since these dupes are still, born from some alien-structure out of nowhere.

in case you hadnt noticed the species isnt human to begin with, if a dupe dies and you unbury a buried corpse you get xeno skeletons, also they piss like bees do and do not void thus the species is drone category. chances are the dupes are double duty, meaning they have both genders twice and two wombs.

this reminds me a bit of the female kerbals situation in another favorite game of mine, which will remain unnamed. ;)

a perceived majority of the playerbase regarded them as an asexual fungal species with no need for gender. the rest noticed the mainly male appearance and names and felt excluded. Then they added Valentina, everybody loved her and the gender-controversy was rarely spoken of again.

keep in mind, it's all about looks and names here, in-game both genders behave the same (don't you dare change that). I just look at the stats when I decide whether or not to print a dupe, not name, gender, hairstyle. If the artwork and flavourtext helps anyone who is not a male white young adult to feel included I welcome it.

I feel the exact opposite about Kerbal. It was pretty clear that they were all male (I never had a Ruby Kerman), and the female kerbals rock. I just always figured that based on most of the dupes gender ambiguity in design that they were all gender ambiguous via being animated genetic ooze and having surpassed reproductive needs.
