  1. 1. Do you want Klei to add all cosmetic items to the in game Klei store?

    • Yes, I would like to purchase skins directly from Klei.

    • Yes, but they should be different somehow. (Such as Proof of Purchase rarity and/or not tradeable. Graphically they should be identical)
      10
    • No. The Steam community market suits my needs fine.
      14
    • No. Not interested.
      3
    • I never purchase skins and never would regardless of any changes.

  2. 2. Do you think we should be concerned about Chinese users on Steam unable to use the community market.

    • Yes, China is a huge market and not having some form of method for those players to purchase skins and support the game's development is troubling.
      24
    • Yes, but I would like to include console players in this list as well.
      20
    • Yes, but through a DLC paywall alienating the playerbase.
      4
    • No. We shouldn't be concerned about a portion of the playerbase unable to further financially support the game's development.
      7
    • No. Paid cosmetic content is terrible and never should have been implemented in the first place.

  3. 3. Would you appreciate the unvariable cost of skins on the Klei store?

    • Yes, My friends main's GOH is $1.59 USD and mine is $11.00! USD Whoops, mine just jumped to $16.57! Ugh!
      28
    • Yes, and to add to NO.1 currency conversion just made both our mains even more expensive!
      2

      2
    • No, the variable cost is a good thing for purchasing skins.
      11
    • No, I don't care about skins but a variable cost is great for selling them.

    • I would appreciate the concrete cost of a DLC paywall alienating the playerbase.

Edit: Multiple of you have said the poll is not good. I appreciate that, If you guys have any suggestions to improve the poll I would love to hear them.

This has been discussed frequently but some new things have recently developed so I think this is something that must be talked about.

Firstly China has recently banned much of Steam functionality in China. AFAIK this also means the Steam community market. If so now Chinese citizens who enjoy DST on Steam have absolutely no way to purchase/sell most of the skins while supporting the game's development. (15% of market revenue goes to Klei or Steam functionality which DST uses.) If they want a certain skin they have no method of obtaining it outside of insane luck through trade inn/gift drops or if it is available on the in game Klei store.

I love this game and like to support the developers and I would love to purchase skins directly from Klei (where 100% of the revenue, bar taxes, goes to Klei/Valve.) I can't verify if the Steam community Market is blocked as I do not live in China but if it is I think its a major cause for concern. China is a huge market and I have seen a lot of Chinese players on Steam play DST. Completely depriving those players access to the Steam community market deprives them of a source of revenue for Klei. (10% revenue from all market transactions.) Obviously it was China who blocked the market and Klei can't change this. What Klei can do is add all cosmetic items to the store so that all users (including Chinese players) can purchase cosmetic content. This would also help future proof the game in the event more regions ban the community market so regardless of where DST players live they have a way to purchase content and support the game's development.

Adding all items to the store would be nice for console players. AFAIK they have no way outside of RNG drops/trade inn to purchase cosmetic content. Legacy/non event skins should be non tradeable and of Proof of Purchase (or a new store bought) rarity to show that the purchaser obtained them from the store and supported the game's development.

Finally since China banned Steam community functionality it also looks like Steam trading was banned. If it is true than Chinese Steam users are in nearly the same situation as console players in regards to accessing cosmetic content. Again I can't verify this as I do not live in China but every news source I have seen suggests all Steam community content has been banned/inaccessible in china. (I think this also means the Steam workshop.) This game is great and I can't imagine playing it and being unable to purchase the skins I want. For the sake of Chinese Steam users, console players, and users who want a stable price on cosmetic items ($5 GOH Wendy yesterday, $30 tomorrow. This is in USD of course so you also have to translate it into your local currency.......) Klei please re-evaluate your view on the in game store. The current implementation is great but it could be so, so much better.

Odd how you made the poll state words in a way that makes you feel guilty about choosing any answer that isn't yes. I mean I would probably answer yes to most of these questions anyway but uhh kinda weird way to make a poll if you ask me no offense.

Honestly, Klei just needs to get rid of the trade inn and allow players to weave every skin (excluding loyal and event items after an event has ended). That way even if someone got a skin they didn't want, it would still feel like they're making progress to something they do want. It would likely kill the steam market, but I think that's a fair price to pay for making skins more accessible through normal gameplay.

It wasn't intended to make anyone feel guilty and is not desired to have this effect. How would you have worded it? Anyway thanks for the feedback.

I agree. Except... WEAVE LOYAL SKINS!!?!?!?!?!?!??!!!!!!!??!?!?!!! THAT WOULD COMPLETELY DESTROY THE ENTIRE CONCEPT OF LOYAL SKINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He never posted that AFAIK.

klei is also getting their cut from all sold skins on the steam market place. if you look at the ridiculous high prices, they make ridiculous high profits from it. maybe they will change nothing.

Seeing skins sold for over 50 dollars is sad to see. a skin within the game that has no purpose other than cosmetics. how can you justify such a price. it costs more than the actual game. They should add it for a fair price.

I'm sure they're making a lot more from selling skin sets directly then they are from the steam market.

One relevant thing I forgot about is that some players may potentially be put off by cosmetic content not being able to be sold on the market. I personally never purchase cosmetic content from a game unless it can be re-sold/traded in some capacity. Now that I have a couple hundred hours of DST I don't mind buying untradeable/marketable skins since I know I will get value out of them since I like this game quite a bit. If a game sucks and I don't enjoy it money spent on cosmetic content was a complete waste. The Market allows players who don't enjoy a game to get value out of cosmetics they may own and do not want any longer. (Giving Klei a cut of the sale and another user a skin they want. The Steam market lets Klei profit off players who are no longer interested in DST providing more value for the players that do.) The system does have some unfortunate disadvantages (Skin idlers although Klei profits off them as well.)

Something worth noting: Don't Starve Together was in the "Bronze" category for top revenue on Steam in 2016. The game is still in the "Bronze" category in 2017. Since the list is not sorted we don't know how much the new cosmetic system influenced revenue. We should get a better idea this year with more events (as the Klei store was only implemented in November.)

I legitimately think the game could bump to Silver this year. Klei deserves the revenue they get as it goes into developing the game rather than developing new ways to not develop games.

That's free market for you, regulated by offer and demand. There's also one more saying: "foolish isn't the one who asks, but the one who gives" - blame ones willing to give tens or even hundreds $ on one particular cosmetic item, not sellers speculating this or just trolololing market.

Yet, obviously, I too would welcome an alternative to Steam market with fix, sensible prices PLUS possibility to wave skins from spools, other than the loyal rarity ones.

As for the very-very-small chappies minority out there totally against cosmetic items of any sort - you are funny! Very funny! Like some anti-fashion rebels telling to no-one-really-interested-about how fancy clothes are just vanity items, not expressing oneself through or making a statement. Very funny indeed, chappies!
