Brumister
I've been wanted to play Wickerbottom for a while, so I finally got round to it and created a new world with her. It was all going well until I noticed thre things where missing: Beefalo, pigs and a Rock Biome. Luckily a found some small patches of rocks, and was able to make a alchemy engine, and build up a base near spawn (because their are no better places to build) However, with winter approaching fast, I suddenly realized that I need Beefalo and pigs both to make clothes and armour, but also to fertilize my plants and fight off annoying monsters. HELP!
CaptainCatSleeping
Have you explored the entire world fully? I have some experiences where beefalos were only found a few days before winter, due to the lack of big savanna biomes.
CaptainCatSleeping
Also have you found pig king? There is usually a village near pig king.
CaptainCatSleeping
If you are very desperate and don't mind using cheats/commands, you can type in c_gonext ("beefalo"). I believe this command teleports you to the nearest beefalo. You can switch out beefalo with pigman, to teleport to nearest pigman. Rock1 and rock2 teleports you to rocks. Caves is also a good source of rocks. Also, you can always use alternative armours like log suit. Beggars can't be choosers.
JohnWatson
Rocks, pigs, and beefalo are very renewable resources. You don't need that much rocks. Pigs can respawn and be farmed. Beefalos can be killed as much as you like since they reproduce asexually. When you first enter the world, start exploring it as fast as possible by running along the edges of the map, and this can be done around Day 7-10. You're guaranteed to find rocks, pigs, and beefalos.
imsomony
1. How many days into the season are you? 2. Are you using any mods, and if so, what are they? 3. Can you show us a picture of how much of your map you've discovered? There are far better places to build than on the spawn, and while Beefalo are nice early-game for hound distraction, they actually become a nuisance as time goes on so you don't want to be close to them permanently. Also, plants/farms are useless in Winter, so don't waste your time setting them up until you're nearing Spring. This makes me think you may not have explored much, and are missing many of the vital areas you need to survive in the long-term. I mainly play Wickerbottom, and here's a few of my tips: Build your base in a central area between the swamp and the desert - either right next to each other, or separated by a wormhole. You'll want reeds like crazy, and the swamp creatures will act as protection from monsters during the early game. The desert is a veritable goldmine for all players at all times. Look for gold ASAP and build a Science Machine ANYWHERE. It doesn't matter where, drop it and start crafting. Craft as many of the following things as you can without placing them down (right-click to cancel placing them, and they'll save as pre-built): Alchemy Engine, Lightning Rod, Fridge, Chest, Flingomatic, Drying Rack, Crockpot, Endothermic Fire, Fire Pit. Craft all of these no matter what else you do: Backpack, Shovel, Spear, Log Suit. If you're able to craft everything, also craft a Hammer, and hammer down the Science Machine to get some of its resources back. Pigs are great, but aren't necessary in-bulk early game - there are many alternatives to a Football Helmet, Ham Bat, and/or Umbrella. If you haven't found the Pig King and corresponding pig village, one or two random pigs in a forest is more than enough to get you though the first season or two while you continue to explore for all the others. Rock biomes are nice, but aren't permanent, and will be eradicated the more players that join. Don't depend on that. Instead, look only for what you need, the basic essentials to start unlocking crafting recipes, and go to the caves or the meteor area to gather extras. Unlocking recipes is vital to help your friends, who can also help you. If you're low on supplies, ask them for some, and offer your help in crafting the things they need. Wickerbottom has perks with her early crafting ability, which makes her sound easy, but her real strength is in being a supporting character for everyone. She unlocks recipes first and foremost, and lends early assistance to players who don't have her abilities. She pushes through the same adversity, while also easing the struggle for everyone early on. Later-game, when everyone has caught up to her, she has unique magic (books) to continue solidifying their existence.
Brumister
I've mainly just explored the entire place around my spawn, evenly in each direction, and it's surrounded by swamps. that I'm going to explore sooner or later. I'm 12 day's in, just before my first hound attack, found 4 pigs wandering around, sadly they spawned RIGHT NEXT TO A RANDOM PATCH OF SWAMP THAT CONTAINED A MERM HOUSE, haven't yet found the pig king, and keep running out of torches and food while exploring so I have to go back to base. The reason I've based around spawn is because I'm playing a custom gamemode (wilderness but you spawn at portal) and want to have a base somewhat near where I'll spawn so I don't die strait off the bat in some horrible way. I have mod's, but just the aforementioned gamemode, the moving box and some characters. I have a log suit and a spear, and am starting to build walls around my base. I'm trying to move all naturally spawning food supplies to my base, because I had this horrible idea of a impenetrable base that contains everything you'll ever need. Just a question, can Guano fertilize berry bushes? The reason I worry about not having enough rocks is because I can't even build basic tools because of the lack of them. CaptainCatSleeping
Guano can fertilize berry bushes. And 12 days in is not too bad. Try to explore more while you still can. Pick food and resources along the way and you should not have the need to return base for resources and food. You mentioned about not having enough rocks to build tools. Are you refering to flint or rocks?
Lumina
I could be wrong but i think a world could not have a rock biome (if by rock biome you mean the one with rocky texture on ground, and sometimes spider or tallbird, not the one with dirt texture on ground and sometimes grass gecko or meteor). Beefalo could be scarce, but you should find at least some of them. There is nearly always at least one pig village.

HELP! you can find a lot of rocks underground. Find pig heads near altars so you can build your own pig houses. You can find beefalo whool in the thumbleweed, or you can craft catcoon hat + thermal stone. It will help you untl you kill tusk and get Tam o' Shanter
Rellimarual
you might want to put off decorative stuff like walls until you have more of the basics squared away. Walls won't protect you from anything but mole worms.
Brumister
Rocks, I have plenty of flint. I didn't know walls where useless, thanks.
CaptainCatSleeping
Yeah walls are mainly for asthethics. I remember my noob times where I thought walls keep out monsters too. Dragonfly was my downfall for that time.
Rellimarual
Even hounds can chew through them.
