Save data and opting OUT of the BETA branch

Recommended Posts

  • Developer

Hey everyone, since A New Reign is live in the main branch now, we will be shutting down the BETA branch sometime next week.

If you would like to migrate your BETA branch saves to the main branch:

1. Make sure Don't Starve Together is not running and is up to date on the main branch.

2. Backup your main branch save data folder:
         \\Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogether

3. Replace it with your beta saves by renaming:
         \\Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogetherANewReignBeta
    to: \\Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogether

Erm...what if you kind of accidentally named two servers the same name ('cos it's the common one you usually use) on both?  Will one replace the other, or just go into the next world-slot down?

Sincerely yours, from a person who deeply doesn't know how this works (obviously!)

A question
I was running a dedicated server through the New Reign Beta. I followed your instructions above, but now when I run the StartDSTServers.bat it makes a new folder for the NewReignBeta (that is empty of course since I backed up/deleted the old one) instead of directing to the standard Klei/DontStarveTogether/MyDediServer. How should I proceed?

I believe you are talking about world names. Hosted worlds are named Cluster_<number#1-5> and the information of the world eg. name, data and other things are inside that folder, as long as you have less than five worlds you can somewhat merge them. Okay just some be whatever scenarios, A: I make a Hosted world on the beta called "Cow Intelligence Agency" on slot 4 assuming you're using windows, the files would be Located in \Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveANewReignBeta\Cluster_4 , So, you want to move it to the stable release, you check for any available spots in the stable release, Let's say you delete a test world (on the stable release) on slot 1 you rename the Cluster_4 folder in \Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveANewReignBeta\ to Cluster_1 (or copy it to a temporary folder and rename it there if you run into issues) the copy the newly renamed folder into \Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogether . I hope that helped ask a bit more if you still need help.

Video sort of related to help the process:

Ah, thanks, but it was not hard, just a bit time-consuming. See, I use a mod allowing 50 clusters, so I had to check the cluster numbers in the live branch directory, copy the ones from ANR into a new folder, rename them to avoid overwriting, then cut and paste into the master directory. And copy backup and client_save folders too.

Server names are irrelevant. You can have as many same-named ones as you want, but you have to keep the clusters separately. You can have two or more servers named Notorious, if you keep them in Cluster_1 and Cluster_2, you will be fine.

Heh.  Actually I tend to name them things like (Playername)'s Happy Nature Trail O'Death! or (Playername)'s Funtime Wilderness Extravaganza! for my standard name, but the advice is helpful still.  (Specialised names include "The March of Civilization" and "Starving in a Winter Wonderland".)  As you can see, I have fun with the names.  :)

Went into my folders, found out the only two I really need to save are my main non-beta longest-running one (the Wilderness Extravanganza one that's up to Day 570...something) and the March of Civilization, on which I'm trying a very long, involved challenge.  Everything else can go if it needs to.

IMPORTANT: If you are not entirely sure how to do this create an entire copy of \Documents\Klei and put it somewhere else . So do you have any worlds from the beta, In this case I would copy the cluster files, eg if the Non-beta Wilderness Survival was in the 3rd slot go into \Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogether And Copy Cluster_3 (if it was in the third slot) into a temporary folder like StahveTemp in \Documents then I would rename it to something like "This be world #1" keep copying and repeating until you have your 5 most prioritized worlds in there (remember if you have a world in the beta to go into the beta folder to retrieve it) then start renaming them to Cluster_1 , Cluster_2 ect. then you will want to copy them into your  \Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogether\ these will replace your existing worlds So if you haven't backed them up and made an accident then you may have lost some worlds.

Would my saves get deleted if i don't do this or will they still be in my beta folder

Okay, so I did back things up (the beta folder).  I then renamed the folder for the beta world I really wanted to keep to Cluster 3, and made sure there were only 2 worlds active on my non-beta branch (there are).  So, renaming my beta world to Cluster 3 and then moving it into the main-branch folder _should_ work.  Right?

...but although the formerly-beta Cluster 3 folder does have a server chat log in there that I recognise as being from the right server, THE ACTUAL WORLD ISN'T SHOWING UP!  Help?  :( Do I have to like, go into folders and rename other things, or...?

(I do NOT want to lose The March of Civilization.  It's been _months_ of long, painful, complicated challenge.  I like it, but I SO don't want to start all over...!)

Your server save file is actually there, but will not show in game until you click "GENERATE WORLD" button for that cluster.

Found out with trial and error.

I just tried this and when I go into game the world isn't showing up. It just shows to generate new world. When i look into the DST files it shows that the clusters copied over but nothing in game. I do have a mod that allows for more than 5 save files so i'm not sure if that has anything to do with this.

What Cluster slots do you have open on the stable branch? rename the beta Cluster 3  to an open slot, maybe a pm would be better If you encounter further issues?
