Difference between lavatory and outhouse

Recommended Posts

Difference is that lavatories do not work during night time and so if you have only lavatories dupes get interrupted sleep only one time and hold it until morning and they do not get multiple interrupted sleep nights in a row because of full bladder, as it is with outhouse.

If you have both lavatory and outhouse during night dupes would wake up and go to outhouse and ignore lavatory.

So lavatories currently do not reduce stress but make your dupes wait with full bladder till morning which reduces their interrupted sleep because they end up with just one interrupted night instead of 4-5.

I hope it is not a bug but feature that lavatories are closed during night.

Lavatories also -currently- destroy water.

Ceterum censeo bugs involving loss of resources mass like pumps, plumbing, water going downhill by steps, airlock doors in a row and so on should be attended with priority as affecting fundamental aspects of the game.

You can eliminate the loss by putting a valve on it to regulate the flow. It's no different than electrolysers in that respect. Fed it too much water and it will destroy the excess.

Don't the valves destroy water excess too? I tested it shortly and thought they do (though I could be wrong).

No they don't destroy any water.

I have it like this with same water for many cycles. It is only place where I use sand and it last for ages.

But the "full bladder" stress debuff is bigger than the "interrupted sleep" debuff.

Well you right, 0,5 vs 0,3 but how long for just morning hour or for 1,5 cycles or more?

True but problem is continuous "interrupted sleep" for several days. Easy 5+ days depending on distance from bed to outhouse.

The difference is very noticeable. I am now playing new game and was wondering why I have to use massage tables so much already around cycle 40 and the reason was I was filling outhouses to spawn morbs so I didn't have lavatories built.

Similar continuous "interrupted sleep" is from hunger during night but that I am avoiding with time to time using calories/day feature.

Do you prime the system with clean water initially? or do you just build the close loop and wait for the lavatory to be used to generate clean water?

You have to prime it with water first. Should be noted that 100-900g of water is at risk if you save and reload while the shower is in use because the accumulated time is not being saved. Electrolyzer risks the same amount. Water Purifier risks only 100g. Plenty others too.

The distillery is of special interest as it takes 1000 ticks to finish.
The risk is 0.030000002 kg to 29.9700019 kg of slime.

Many thanks. I'll give it a try.

That's a nice setup, thanks for the idea! I was worried about using the lavatory or shower due to limited amount of water.

I am keeping save files from every 10th cycle from my current game and so I could check it exactly.
Unfortunately there is some water lost... (small amount compared to mass loss in other situations).
Something also lost maybe because of what Risu wrote.

At cycle 50 I had in 152kg of water and 7 dupes.
And now at cycle 105 still 7 dupes using it there is only 105kg water. So about 1kg every cycle is evaporated. :)

Just a little warning. Shower seems to have problems when output is going too soon into some joint.
When shower says "Empty pipe" that means no clean water on input and when it says "Not Pumping" it has some output problems.

With this setup dupes where going into shower and then after one second (one kg of water used) they left still Grimy so I had to change shower output to be a bit longer before joining with toilets.
