Don't Starve Together Shipwrecked

Recommended Posts

I ABSOLUTELY loved Don't Starve Shipwrecked. I felt it was a great over the seas experience, and I love Don't Starve Together's multiplayer. I also know there is already a mod to put Shipwrecked characters into DST which is super cool, but I feel what could be improved and extended upon that is making a whole new purchasable DLC or just an update with a selected world type being DST or DSTSW where you had the same world choices as in single player Don't Starve but where the players could be on random or the same islands in the world. I feel it would also be a bonus cause I feel the same about winter, everyone despises it but I like the hurricane season, its a nice change from freezing to death, many many times.

If only poor Wilson had a friend or two to set sail with D:

Another one of these? Come on.

TLDR: SW is buggy and in the opinion of quite a few lacking in content/unfinished and rushed(Guilty as charged on both), and the fact it's on a different engine than DST means that a port would be quite a lot more work than you'd think, for...not a lot of gain, given how much of it is a reskin/filler. Besides, DST has a lot of issues, SW has a lot of issues, together they'll have additional issues. That's a lot to iron out.

Buggy will be fixed.  It won't be a lot of work if it's just reskins, you contradicted yourself. As for lacking in content, yup. Not even worth doing for the small stuff that is good. Just port that on it's own...

I dunno if I'm just a HORRIBLE PERSON but I actually really enjoyed SW.

In any case, porting it over to DST would take lots of work and overhauling most of the game mechanics; like for instance, needing to make sure people on the starting island would be able to actually get a boat.

My answer to this will always be: Cave entrance on start island. Volcano is terrible, make it a cave biome. Caves work wonders when resources are missing, too.

Honestly the main things I'd like to see from it implemented would be shores and shallow water, island-edges right next to eachother would be cross-able. And it'd look nicer.
...given that option...maybe make the main island the 'starter island', and other SW content accessible by sailing up to the edge of the world to transfer to a more SW-like world with islands and volcanoes and all that?

SW was on sale this weekend, and I thought about getting it, but I realized that I would never actually end up playing it as long as it's part of the base game. DS solo is just so far behind DST in so many ways at this point that I'd constantly be reminded of that and not want to play it.

I kinda thought that too, but I decided to bite the bullet and get it anyway. And I gotta say, I'm enjoying myself so far. Sure it might be a tad buggy and few things might be a bit imbalanced (sand castles anyone?) but overall it's fun playing DS in a whole new world. It feels like I'm new to the game all over again. If you can afford it, I'd personally recommend at least trying it by attempting to survive a whole year.

The one issue with a multiplayer Shipwrecked is that having multiple players in boats at one time. Because I can see how horribly glitch filled and buggy and it could possibly be because of ships suddenly disappearing and your friend drowning or, equipped boat items like sails and cannons could be swapped with another player's net and lantern. But I just do really love the idea of Shipwrecked. I can see a ton of mods that can go with it because characters like Toon Link and King of Red Lions as a boat you can craft as a quick example, and I know there is already a giant community just creating mods for the enjoyment of the player probably ready to make mods for it.

After you told me about this, I thought about it..

When SW launched I was super excited.. And loved everything about it.. But I bored very quickly.. I dont know why..

Maybe thats because I played since it was beta and nearly everyday devs was buffing\nerfing\changing something..

I was starting over and over again.. And then Together updates came out..  I realized now I really missed SW.. :D

And this is such a nice idea..

I hope devs make Shipwrecked Together someday.. ^^

-Wanna jump in that wormhole again Logan ? xD

Rather than continually reposting the same suggestions over and over, can people please just post in one of the few hundred existing DS:SW threads?  Sorry, but almost weekly we see 2-3 threads on how people want to add DS:SW and I'm almost starting to suspect it is just the same person using alt accounts to repost.

Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I don't feel they should implement a whole new world as they did in DS:SW.  The primary reason is that it would essentially make it a new game, rather than a extension of the existing game.  This worked great for DS, because DS is single player and it allowed them to try a whole new approach to the game as a DLC.  However, DST is not the same game and such an addon would really impact overall development (as they would essentially be maintaining two games, in DST alone).

Instead, I feel they should add water mechanics to the existing overworld.  They could have the main landmass, a few small islands, rivers, lakes, make ponds slightly larger, add bogs in swamps, etc.  There is a whole lot of awesome stuff that could be done simply by adding boats to the current game.

Again, I want to reiterate though...please stop duplicating the same topic over and over.  Search before you post.
