I went all out on this character and made a new rig for him, just so I could make him super tall. I wanted to go for his iconic tall look. And boy did I struggle with his sprites. THIS MAN'S LIPS ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO DRAW. His sprites went through SO many changes, I can't count how many times I redrew his lips, hands, and suit colors, trying to mix and mash all the different styles he's been drawn in. I swear every single official picture of him looks different. But I think I actually made decent time on this character, seeing that he is definitely the hardest character I'll ever have to make, and that I took a nearly month long break after the last video to focus on my classes. But here he is! He has some very unique abilities. Some might compare him to the Ice climbers or Rosalina/Luma, but his skills feel much more like controlling an actual puppet than having a partner that tries to follow you around. It is essentially controlling two separate players with one set of buttons. The shadow is an exact replica that can do everything EXCEPT special attacks. This actually allows you to de-sync them easily, and have each fighter doing different moves at the same time. This mod is getting very close to being finished!~ I do believe this will be the last "teaser" trailer I post before the final release trailer! I'd love to give an approximate release date, but I honestly haven't got a clue how long the rest of these smaller side-features will take. I actually might go for a fifth character before I release it, seeing it'd probably the easiest character to make. I probably wouldn't make a trailer for him, he's not that exciting. But I'll wait to decide after I'm done with everything else. And I'm thinking about doing a closed beta here with people on the forums probably a couple weeks before I release it, just to get some last minute feedback and final bug fixes. I'll let you guys know when that happens though. Okay, that's it though. I always ramble on these forums longer than anywhere else. Thanks for all the support I've been getting on this! I'm not sure how different they'd be, if even anything more than just re-skins in different biomes. But it would at least be nice to have a stage reskin without the obnoxiously distracting water. The only reason I left the water in there in the first place is because staring into the endless black void that is the ocean-less background can feel a bit strange. And if I remember correctly, I think I had trouble getting the blue background prefab to show up below the water line. But I can try again now that I know what I'm doing. The stage is actually just a world preset (like lights-out) so it'd be pretty easy to make stages with different skins and perhaps different sizes and blast zones. I'd only need to find a way for the code to be able to recognize which world generation is which when applying blast zones and stage ledges. Platforms will almost certainly not be in the initial release, but I may try to add them in later. I believe they'd be possible, just a little-- wait no I just realized Maxwell would be too tall to walk underneath platform ledge-barriers. nevermind. Would probably need to have Waxy do a crouch/hunched movement animation instead of walking upright if there's a ledge above his character- at no movement penalty but just aesthetics. As for making the platforms themselves I'm sure you are familiar with the physics engine Klei is using- Bullet. There is a fairly limited subset of functions available in the Lua proxies provided to us for use in the modding API. But you could get away with using floating cylinders since you're locking motion in the one axis from what I can tell. someentity.Physics:SetCylinder(radius, height) The cylinder flat edges are always orientated such that the normal matches the normal of the ground, same as the capsule with its oval top. Donke60 Posted November 17, 2016 Share Posted November 17, 2016 I love puppet characters all the way to guilty gear to Blaze Blue I don't know what characters you have implemented into the game but I would gladly play this all day everyday really nice work I wonder what each character fights as in your game I'm not used to playing smashups so I don't know if they require different archetypes P.S props to you if you add wes and give him the highest learning curve. I don't think I'd give him hunching animations, all his attack animations would go through the platforms anyways. My ground detection system is a bit stupid, but I had to make it that way because the Bullet physics engine is a little finicky. I'm not sure if it's my fault or the engines, but I had to fix it so that it would not ocasionally think you are off of the ground for a single frame and cancel whatever move you were doing into a landing animation. I would use another physics collision setting that would turn on only when needed, much like how ledge barriers are only off for a player when they are in the air or running. I wouldn't want to give them to just be active all of the time so that you'd hit your head on them if you tried to jump up through one. I could do it, but it'd just be tedious to have to mess around with my dumb ground detection system to include all that stuff, and it's just currently lower on my priority list at the moment.
