Don't Starve Together Shipwrecked

They haven't said whether or not it's going to happen. It's a pretty solid "maybe".

And in addition everyone should hope they don't.

SW is a trainwreck on its own in so many ways and even if it stops being as bad(content and or bug wise) as is it, it would be a griefer's heaven and the late joiner's worst nightmare.

A Trainwreck?

Shipwrecked was a lot of fun, and I played it since it launched as a beta.

I could see the difficulty in adding multiplayer content to it's format, but to say "Everyone should hope they don't" seems a bit extreme, no?

True, it's subjective.

But SW is really a trainwreck(been playing since it launched as well, very active in the forums there too, at least was) in a number of ways. It's too early for me to open that hellhole again.

Jeez, I can't even imagine what kind of problems you've had with it. It sounds like you're coming home from a bloody and brutal war!

I like Shipwrecked, despite it having many balance issues. Klei will probably continue to work on it and I think after they're satisfied with it, then they could look at implementing it to DST. Klei is currently working on original content for DST so Shipwrecked is a big "maybe" at this stage.

A bit extreme IMO but yeah, there would be some big issues to address with Shipwrecked worlds in a multiplayer setting.

I wouldn't care to see this happen unless Klei was willing to seriously rework it for inclusion. Some of the ideas were cool or fun but at the end of the day even if it wasn't buggy it's like one big, amateurishly-balanced mod. Man, coffee. That is the worst. Absolutely ridiculous. It's a cute joke but the speed boost is absolutely absurd for the length of time it lasts. If you got maybe a minute of it a cup and drinking it too often lowered its duration (making it best used only for special occasions or the occasional turbo boost for exploring) that'd be one thing, but four minutes, and for minimal effort it takes once you've got a farm set up? No way.

I think it'd definitely need a lot of bug fixes but it'd be really awesome to ride around in boats with yer pals. I mean just think of all the things:

1. Pirate battles

2. More pirate battles

3. Additional and improved pirate battles

4. Enhanced interactive pirate battles

5. Further amounts of even greater pirate battles

Pirates versus griefers?

Count me in, desperado :).

Y'know, the more I think about it, the more I realize that, instead of adding Together to Shipwrecked, it might be better to implement aspects of Shipwrecked into Together. What do I mean?

The biggest issue with playing Shipwrecked in a multiplayer format is how impossible it would be for everyone to stay together. Once people start going out into the world, unless they have the best communication skills, can easily end up in opposite corners of the map. That, combined with some of the other... issues associated with some of Shipwrecked's design and mechanics makes things kinda tough for a multiplayer setting.

So instead, what if when you were making a server, you had a little toggle on the first page (where you pick the server name, password, etc.) that was for Shipwrecked Content?

For instance, turning this switch on will add more biomes to the world generation which are neutered versions of the equivalent Shipwrecked biomes. Mainly, instead of islands, they could be biomes that spawn on the map edges where the "ocean" is. For instance, there could be a beach biome that spawns crabbits, palm trees, and such things, or a marsh biome that spawns Water Beefalo and Mangroves. There could even be a Volcano biome that features a functioning Volcano. And of course, Parrots and Toucans spawn in these biomes instead of the vanilla bird flavors. Here's an elaborated list of what I mean:

  • Beach: Pretty much the same as Shipwrecked's "Beach" biome. Spawns Palm Trees, Saplings, Grass Tufts, Crab Dens/Crabbits, Seashells, Sand Piles, Rocks, Limpet Rocks, Wildbore Houses, and Crates (Rarely).
  • Shallow Reef: A "Walk-able" version of Shipwrecked's "Coral Reef" biome. Spawns Coral Reefs, Shoals, Dogfish, Seaweed, Jellyfish, Brainy Sprouts, and, should he decide to grace you with his presence, the Yaarctopus.
  • Jungle: Again, pretty much the same as Shipwrecked's normal "Jungle" biome. This one honestly wouldn't need to limited to shorelines. Spawns Jungle Trees, Bamboo Patches, Viney Bushes, Berry Bushes, Flowers, Mushrooms, Butterflies, Fireflies, Prime Ape (Huts), Spider (Dens), Snakes (including the poison kinds), and Rocks.
  • Mangrove: Same as Shipwrecked's "Mangrove" biome. In fact, the function of this biome in Shipwrecked and how you walk in shallow water is what gave me the ideas for making the other "sea" biomes work in Together. Spawns Mangrove Trees, Grass Tufts, Shoals, and Water Beefalo.
  • Magma Field: Nearly identical to Shipwrecked's "Magma Field" biome. Doesn't need to be restricted to Shorelines. Spawns Magma Piles, Krissures, Saplings, Rocks, and Tallbird (Nests).
  • Meadow: Just like Shipwrecked's "Meadow" biome. Can be in-land. Spawns Grass Tufts, Sweet Potatoes, Flowers, Mushrooms, Mandrakes, and Bee(hives).
  • Tidal Marsh: Pretty close to Shipwrecked's "Tidal Marsh". Doesn't have to be on the shore. Spawns Reeds, Flups, Tidal Pools, Poison Holes, and the ever friendly Fishermerm, along with their not-so-friendly cousins the regular Merm and their respective Huts.
  • Sea Shore: A severely improvised version of the several "Ocean" biomes in Shipwrecked. It's all shallow water that you can walk in with a clear cutoff where the Sea is and where the player can no longer walk. Spawns Seaweed, Jellyfish, Shoals, Wobster (Dens), Mussels, Stink Rays, Seagulls, Dogfish, Bottlenose Ballphins, and rarely Messages in Bottles, Steamer Trunks, and Swordfish. The Suspicious bubbles that lead to Whales could generate here as well. Possibly also generates low, slow waves heading towards the mainland that cause wetness? And keep an eye out for Rawling out there.
  • Volcano Island: Another improvised biome, mostly based on Shipwrecked's "Volcano" biome. Similar to the Sea Shore above, except this is a mostly empty shallow water biome with a Volcano isolated from the rest of the landmass in the game. You can enter the Volcano, which would be identical to the format of Shipwrecked.
  • The Haunted Shore: This would arguably be the most altered of the biomes. Mostly based off of Shipwrecked's "Ship Graveyard," but with obvious changes to make it navigable on foot. Spawns Shoals, Seaweed, Wrecks, Steamer Trunks, and rarely, Watery Graves and Swordfish. This kind of biome could also be where a set piece that spawns the Quacken could generate. I explain that one further down this mess of a post.

Having Shipwrecked content on would also add Poison mechanics and the items/enemies associated with it (Of course, you could probably turn off poison in the world settings if you no likey).

Another thing that could change with the toggle is the seasons would become the Together Seasons, instead of the standard. This would also swap out the Giants that appear: M/Goose, Dragonfly, Bearger, and Dragonfly would be replaced with the Tigershark, Sealnado, and Quacken (and maybe a new fourth boss to even things out?).

Now how would the Quacken work? Easy. Make it a Raid boss like the Dragonfly with it's own biome and set piece. The set piece could be found in the Haunted Shore biome I mentioned above, and you can do something to Summon the Quacken and battle it. Another change would be that instead of spawning it's normal waves (which wouldn't work in a non-seafaring game), it spawns heavy splashes or something similar that causes heavy wetness and sanity damage (and maybe even a little damage). A few other changes and it could be a pretty neat fight.

As for the Shipwrecked characters? Warly and Wilbur would probably be almost fine in this kind of conversion, but Walani and ESPECIALLY Woodlegs would need an overhaul. But I believe in the Devs and their creative ability.

Now of course, there would still be items that don't get added from Shipwrecked into this update, like the entire boating system, but overall, it could work kinda well? A neat change would be to keep the trawl net, but instead have it be something the player has to hold in their hands while they walk around shallow water to get goodies.

That's just my 2 (million) cents.

(I'm way too tired to be thinking this much)

I was disappointed there was no pirate tallbirds with one eyepatch and 2 insanely big peg legs, maybe DST could pick up the slack the original SW had with that one issue.

Otherwise... snrt... shipwrecked is.... pffrt... Without issues. *busts out laughing*

I made a little "Troll" teaser for DST: Shipwrecked, but hey. A man can dream, can't he? ;)

(This is in no way real or confirmed. This was just a fake teaser I scrapped up with pre-existing content.)

(Also, notice how lazy I was doing this, there was no change of the "08/02/2016" date.)
