  1. 1. Are you happy with WX?

While Willow is a mess on her own right. I feel WX is the character who truly falls short of filling a fantasy. As I play, I want to play WX at times but usually don't. Cause really and truly, he doesn't feel special. Too much of his power is hidden within stats boosting upgrades. In multiplayer this is even more evident as he eats up the gears to make his stats beefier. If I want a fighter, I rather have muscle beefcake Wolfgang or Unicorn Warrior Wigfrid. WX is just empty. He doesn't feel unique as his few perks and disadvantages are highly situational. Usually if the team is rolling in stale and spoiled food, they have enough to spare even without a robot eating it. Rain's threat falls off fast with a single umbrella. Not hard to get pig skin and deerclop's takes care of you the hands on issue. Leaving Overcharge which is really only easy to control with certain higher end items or Wickerbottom. And Woodie or Maxwell could easily of already taken care of the chores in a more reliable and consistent method.

WX's upgrades should be less about raw stats and more about utility. Give him after X amount of upgrades the choice to pick certain upgrades. Maybe empty space in his chest to store 4 items. Then the next X amount is either A. Cooling Unit, B. Heater, or C. More Space. So you can now use those four spaces for a fridge, overtime cooking method, or a backpack that works with armor. Of course that's one possibility. Maybe let him upgrade with lights that provide light at night if he keeps it fueled with fireflies or lightbulbs. Upgrades could be less fuel required, larger radius, or having the light automatic for turning on and off.

I just don't think WX lives up to what he could be. What do you think?

I actually like your ideas waaaay more than what WX is. Really hope they do something with him.

I like WX the way he is, but I can't say your ideas are bad; indeed, specific upgrades sounds interesting as it means every WX experience could be in some way unique.

Light source that doesn't requires you to use your hands or head? Sure, sounds alright. Internal Heater? Yeah, could be cool, especially in Winter.

His ability to eat spoiled food comes in handy if you prefer the nomadic lifestyle like myself, as it allows you to gather up a bunch of berries and seeds and just wander around for ages without worrying about hunger. Overall I think he's meant to be a late game character so he isn't supposed to be spectacular early on (unfortunately public servers rarely last long enough). I agree he isn't exactly the most exciting character to play as, but he makes up for it with his cuteness and hatred for all living things. Interesting suggestions though.

I see what you did there.

A: Actually, the pun was unintentional. I just say cool a lot, be it sarcastic or just a sort of, 'Yeah, sounds aight.'

B: Yeah, once you've, say, cleared out a Teleportato Setpiece in the Base Game, WX is gr8.

WX is simultaneously one of the best and worst characters. He is best because if you have a good team with Wickerbottom you can become permanently charged due to her End is Nigh book, which is an extremely broken combo. As long as you can make it to the late game, you can then consume gears to become a tanky, lightning fast monster.

On the other hand, he is a massive noob trap. Eating gears early game can hurt you and your team pretty bad during your first summer (or if you're especially greedy, immediately due to utter lack of fridges), and those who aren't able to make up for his somewhat weaker stats early on will be a burden on their teammates.

Honestly, I think He's fine where he's at. He is and upgraded version of Wilson that has a one drawback and has at least 2 upsides. As for Willow, I think shes pretty balanced as she is right now. I might be the only one to think that these characters are perfectly fine where they're at. YOLO..

WX is arguably the most overpowered character in the game. There really is no reason to buff him. (If anything his starting stats should be nerfed to his DS stats because ruins are in). He is meant to be played as weak early game character who excels in the late game, and that's exactly what he is.

I think The OP award goes to Wigfrid. Anyone that can make meatballs can play as her. Instant lifesteal/sanity steal. The nerf would hurt people who can't host caves/choose not to and I don't think klei wants to have a character that changes based on whether caves are up or not. I'm just waiting for someone to start a thread about Webber needing a buff (he doesn't need it))

He's fine where hes at considering how sparse Gears (in a non-cave world) are due to everyone and their mother wanting fridges/ Flingos

He doesn't really need a buff, he just need something that brings something new to the team, instead of being a downside, aka not being able to live near pigs/build pig houses so close, I think the only thing he brings to the table is pacifying spiders.

And if you wanna bring his spider civil war tactic, Wendy with Abigail can gather up spider loot with her AoE attack which is also great for crowd control, and getting aggro. (also really great for getting infinite honey with Abigail, killer bee fields + Aibgail = WORK!)

Edit: I'm talking about like a group, for solo/yolo use he is alright.

He's also the only character to be able to upgrade spider dens by adding silk to them, and craft spider eggs.I was going to say he's the only one who can eat monster meat without any drawbacks, but Wigfrid can eat cooked monster meat and re-gain all the stats loss by killing more spiders.  This might seem like its not a great pro, but starting off with a spider egg early game, planting it, and having a planned tier three den by day 9 is HUGE for silk, monster meat, glands etc. This is taking into consideration that by day 9 the tier is 2nd tier, and you have a 9 day old beard. Considering how much of the clothing/ survival items are needed from spiders this is great. As for not being able to camp right onto Pig villages, that a small setback considering that you can just camp a little farther away from the Pig villages.(About 2 screens away) and be safe. Spider dens also make great Hound protection if that what you're worried about, and they're as great as pigs fighting the other bosses asides from the Goose/Goose (aka they pretty much get one shotted) And they're easier to build than pig houses.

Spoiler

Only character I think needs more fine tuning is Maxwell's shadows.

Actually I'd like his stats to be like in the solo. Now that the ruins are there other players can help him upgrading, or he could simply spends time in the desert opening tumbleweeds, providing resources for the team and eating occasional gears. Right now his 150 starting stats seems to be too much security to me.

What I'm touching on is that most of his gameplay revolves around gathering gears for stats boosts. It's okay, but it's nothing that noteworthy.

Wendy has a ghost sister murdering small swarms of critters.

Wickerbottom has spellbooks she casts magic from.

Wofgang's body mass and muscle mass change as he becomes a god among men as he gets full.

Wigfrid slays foes with her helmet and spear while watching their spirits go to Valhalla.

Webber can make spider armies and gets punched in the face by pigs.

Woodie has a talking axe named Lucy and can turn into a werebeaver.

Maxwell has shadow servants to do his bidding.

Wes is the weakling who can make armies of balloon animals to do nothing. Also that air side lean?

Willow & Wilson are pretty basic, though Wilson is understandable as the average guy for the game.

Meanwhile WX's main features winds up playing with "I eat gears and my stats GO WAY UP." Basically he brings nothing to the table for teams besides becoming either End Is Nigh'd overcharged or being the guy who cause he ate the gears is now super godly in stats. He either brings nothing special or becomes broken. He doesn't have a spark. (besides rain... which is almost not even a threat for him unless he joins in Spring)

I think robot is one of the greatest characters, but only for your own server. If you eat max amount of gears his stats become huge which makes him really durable. I think people underestimate his ability to eat spoiled food and it's really damn important when you mass produce food. A lot less food goes to waste (or more like a lot less hunger/hp/sanity goes to waste).

He doesn't have flashy perk, but he was my main choice for end-game world.

Oh and his rain drawback can save your life. When I was once in very bad situation (no light) and I would otherwise die, rain happened and Charlie couldn't get me because of wx sparks. Being able to be struck by thunder is small little bonus because it actually never happened to me "naturally". Perhaps thunders should prioritize robot (over lightning rods) or have much higher chance to strike him.

I actually really like his "doesn't mind spoilage" perk. That makes a huge difference when you're spelunking or going on an expedition. Even if a food is 10 seconds away from turning to rot, you can still get its full hunger, health, and sanity boosts

Exactly. This is one powerful perk.
