Skins specific to a character played?

Recommended Posts

Ladies and Gentlemen,

please forgive me if I am asking something that has already been answered. Searching failed to return relevant results.

I would like to kindly ask if you have a play a certain character to have a chance of obtaining skins specific to this PC (for instance the Valkyrie armour dropping only when playing Wigfrid). With my hours played on Steam, I am drowning in skins, common, classy, spiffy, you name it. Not a single is for the head though. I really do not mind this little issue as it is not my point in the game, I would gladly give the duplicates for a song if I had more experience in trading, but other players look at me funny.

I wonder if more skins would drop if I played some certain PC. The thing is, my group wants me to host rather than join a server. With sixteen player slots, I need to think about balancing the party. This combined with enjoying more challenge results in me running Taronci to make room for all those Wilsons, Webbers, Wigfrids and Woodies. Then there are griefers laughing their rears off over the fact the host HAS NOTHING TO PROVE THEIR EXPERIENCE (apparently the concept of not needing to prove anything is beyond the grasp of such individuals).

I do not particularly NEED more skins. Still, this makes me curious about the system behind skin drops. If anyone can shed more light on this, I would greatly appreciate any help. Thank you in advance and my sincerest regards.

PS Also, is there a limit of how many skins you can have? Without trading partners, I happen to have a lot of items with no idea what to do with them. Can I give them to others as Steam gifts if the recipient has DST please?

Hey, professional skin-ologist here.

1. You can obtain any skin as any character. It just gets increasingly tougher to get a higher tier skin. Even I've never found an Elegant yet!

2.  Hosting or joining a world doesn't affect your chances of getting skins.

3. You can get 4 skins every week. The clock resets every Thursday.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me out. Greatly appreciated. In other words, I do not have to play as, say, Wigfrid to increase the chances of getting any of her specific items (survivor skins, the Valkyrie armour or the Guest of Honour stuff) so that I can then trade it for anything to a friend? He is a great Wigfrid aficionado and still without her gear. It turns out to be greatly coveted. I would like to help getting it if it is possible. So far, as I have to host several servers for people, skins just... sort of flowed in regardless of my interest (or the lack thereof; okay, they are nice, but the hysteria around them some people on the Web spread seems rather unnecessary in my humble opinion), so I thought perhaps if I got something he wants, I could trade with him for it so that he can finally prance around

dressed in an endearingly-preposterous way.

Again, thank you so much for your help.

Perfect. Thank you so much again.

Hoping it is not too off-topic... It would be an interesting feature to be able to customise a skin a bit (say, change the colour of a T-shirt) after you have obtained it. I mean, a lot are simply colour variants.

I mean, we're still talking about skins. It shouldn't be too off-topic.

I would love a feature like that! Maybe make it associated with the Trade-Inn? Or something like this:

-1st Item you want dyed

-2nd Item with color you like

-2nd item is destroyed and 1st item has 2nd item's color

EDIT: Visual Example

Considering there are so many threads about people craving more skins (and I mostly play, in other words, there has to be a lot of discussions I have not found yet at all), I suppose this could be a nice addition. Generally a lot of games which add customisation features come with some basic visual editor, say, just like MS Paint's paint bucket tool, allowing you to fill a mesh in with a colour or at times a pattern. Seeing there have already been so many skins created by the talented folks at Klei, maybe something similar would ease things for the developers (curiously enough, when skins are concerned, a lot of people get quite... umm... vocal?) while giving yet another toy for the players to play with. I am not even touching the decreased difficulty of finding your team on a big server, especially when wearing head armour and running away from a giant :).

That's exactly why playing as Wigfrid doesn't give you more Wigfrid drops - who wants people playing as characters they don't like just because the skins for that character are in demand?

It is a godsend for those who pick a character based on what their partners do in the game to round the team. Otherwise I am afraid a lot of, to use Chris1488's lovely term, skinologists would have a hard time.

Well, to further support this, my bro was playing WX-78 and managed to get both Wendy's and Wolfgang's Survivor clothing within 10 minutes of each other. While I was kinda jealous, it just went to show you don't need to play as a specific character to get their specific items.
