There isn't much point, but you could take an egg out, somehow have the nest get destroyed, and make a new one to house the nest I guess. Maybe there was some extra interaction intended (like having them fill the nest), but it got forgotten or delayed. You can also use them to inflate the doydoy population beyond the cap by juggling eggs (they don't count towards the population outside of the nest), or use them as doydoy egg spoilage refreshers. All of these things are pretty pointless, though. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/64819-doydoys/#findComment-728534 Share on other sites
SapphireBullets
Question for those who've bred them, would it be useful to create a little walled off doydoy enclosure by the ocean to keep them from roaming around? Or do they eat through walls? Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/64819-doydoys/#findComment-728537 Share on other sites
WillPwn4Food
The nest is for instances when you or something else kills some of the doydoys when there is a whole whole herd, you can make more easily. I recommend just spawning one in since it wasn't your fault (c_spawn("doydoy")) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/64819-doydoys/#findComment-728584 Share on other sites

My suggestion is to stick them on a small beach island somewhere close to your Base island and visit them ever so often. WillPwn4Food
9 hours ago, AnonymousKoala said: Beach is not the greatest idea, as during moonsoon...poison musquitoes. It's not too risky actually. Doydoys have 100 health and Poison Mosquitos only do 3 damage per bite and 34 damage when exploding after three bites. A doydoy or two may die from the entire herd due to poisoning, but their two feathers can easily be crafted into a nest and reproduce the lost doydoy. Depends on the spacing of your base, I suppose Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/64819-doydoys/#findComment-728923 Share on other sites
SapphireBullets
Also if you're worried about mosquitos, you could pave your farm and the surrounding environs. Rellimarual
Do Doydoy eggs spoil or are they immortal like tall bird eggs? If they don't spoil, you could stash a couple of eggs in a safe place and if something happens to your Doydoy farm, you could hatch two new ones. SapphireBullets
The wiki says they don't but it looks like they don't hatch from eggs like Tallbirds. Instead you'll need to keep some feathers handy to build a Nest. Rellimarual
Right, you need the nest to hatch the eggs, so you'd also have to make a remote stash with enough feathers to craft two nests, plus the two eggs. SapphireBullets
Alternatively, maybe build multiple farms? I think there's a hard limit of 20 Doydoys in the world so a backup plan wouldn't hurt. zzKratoszz
Wall some in on a beach. Use your boat to get in and out. Have some near you so they reproduce and some on an empty island in case summer kills all your doydoys. I find this is a relatively safe way to go about it and doesn't stress the limit too much. The eggs spoil after awhile if outside a nest. You would probably use a nest if you wanted to transport doydoys without waiting for them to sleep. Edit: if you leave the turf on the ground and it is tide proof turf you won't have to worry about the tide coming in.
