Battal
Note - this thread will contain nothing related to the Kraken's design, drops, or stats. Just the actual fight. Because I'm a boss fight connoisseur. So. Kraken. We all know it's coming. Probably. Maybe. Anywhere, here's the fight. The actual boss The Kraken will only spawn in the Deep Ocean. When it is spawned, it will generate a triangle of fog around itself, creating a sort of "arena". If the player sails through this fog, the Kraken will regain all its health and wait for the player to reappear. It will not chase the player. While the Kraken is active, waves will not spawn, and a thunderstorm will start. Phase One: Tentacles At first, the Kraken is immune to damage, mainly because it's underwater; all you'll see is a dark shape moving under your boat. Instead, it will send up its tentacles to attack you. Initially, it spawns 2 tentacles. You can damage these like any other entity. One a tentacle is killed, it will summon 2 more in its place. Once 8 tentacles have been killed, they will all swim back underwater and Phase 2 will start. These tentacles attack much differently from all the other monsters. Instead of striking a small area in front of them, they will strike a long, thin area in a certain direction. This will create waves that will move outward depending on the direction of the strike. This will be all the Kraken is capable of for Phase 1, but as more tentacles spawn it'll get tougher. Phase Two: Kraken The Kraken rises from the depths and starts to fight you. It has 3 modes - swimming, charging, and fighting. Additionally, for every 1/4th of its health you take off, it will summon a tentacle. These tentacles will stay around the Kraken, slowly rotating around it. While swimming, it will move around at random, at about the speed of a raft. This is the best time to attack it. The Kraken won't really "attack" here, but any tentacles will make it harder to get hits in as the fight progresses. While charging, the Kraken will act similarly to an Ancient Guardian, except faster. It will charge 3 times in rapid succession, then pause for a few seconds; then charge 3 times again. As the fight progresses, its charging will speed up. Charging will also create waves. While attacking, the Kraken will summon two special tentacles, with eyes on the top. These will stay right next to the Kraken. During this stage, the Kraken will relentlessly chase the player. When it attacks, it creates a wall of waves in the direction it's facing, so dense the player can only sail around it. Developer ImDaMisterL Posted January 30, 2016 Developer Share Posted January 30, 2016 I approve of this boss fight idea in all of its magnificence. Prakhar
It's VERY good, but the fight seems too long. Maybe thin the tentacle numbers to 4? Battal
Each tentacle would only have 600-800 health, so they wouldn't take too long to kill. Each tentacle with 600 health! 8*600=4800 That's far more than other bosses, and it's just phase 1! Battal
Oh. Yeah. Wow. I'm bad with numbers, that's why I avoided deciding on the stats Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/63469-the-kraken-boss-fight/#findComment-715621 Share on other sites

Yea, but it's the freakin' Kraken! A legendary, titanic sea monster. I'd be really disappointed if it was tiger shark v2 and you could take it out in 1 minute. The Kraken should be a challenge even for experienced players. Something to strive for and seek out with immense treasure. It's gonna take a couple of days to kill it, and you can't have a break since it regains its health! Only people above day 200 will battle it. I know i wouldn't. PhelsarusBeel
I really like the idea specialy as a 2 Phase boss since most bosses in DS are basicly a 1 trick pony (not counting DST stuff) so a more complex boss would be a welcome addition. As for Stats how about this Each Tentacle has about 300-400 HP. This means that the Entirety of Phase one has 2400-3200 Hp what is around the same amount a fully grown Treeguard has (2500 for the biggest variant). Can't really say much for damage but i suppose getting hit by the tentacle itself should destroy the more basic boats (everything below rowboat). The Kraken itself could have probably 3500 HP what is pretty common among the Giants (for reference the Giants with the most health in the basegame are Goose/Moose and Bearger with 3000HP each) what basicly pushes the entire fight to about 6000HP total. What i want to know is what his loot would be? Considering that he seems like a boss you can fight whenever you find him (similar to the Tigershark) and his more complex fight his drop needs to be very usefull to make it worth fighting the Kraken. As I said, I wasn't really going to talk about his loot since that's not my forte; I think I heard a few ideas about turning its beak into a boat or something, that sounded pretty cool. And obviously, a TON of food. I think it'd be mostly sea-based rewards, though. Battal
Although I did say I wouldn't really discuss the art design of the boss, I will suggest that they don't go the silly route with it.
