parrot pirate/ solution to gold suggestion

Recommended Posts

so with gold always being in short supply and dubloons with a low chance to drop i find it frustrating to have to sail to the yaarctopus with food and have to trawl net for trinkets to trade to him for a sad amount of dubloons that may only turn into 3 gold at most. with that all said i was thinking if there once we had imprisoned a pirate parrot maybe it drop dubloons but only if you gave it cooked meat(not small meat or monster meat) that way there was a way of getting a little more consistent gold but it runs at a price

I agree.

Maybe there can be a new structure for this? Maybe a branch-like structure and we can "train" the parrot to go out and bring us dubloons. Perhaps 2 or 3 dubloon per day and then the parrot comes back and goes to sleep. It would also require us to feed it in order for it to stay alive? (idk just throwing ideas out there *shrugs*)

The moment you start putting sense in everything that happens in Don't Starve is the moment you start loosing interest in the game!

Some things In don't starve don't make sense in the real world but they have to keep some sense of internal consistence within the DS world. turning the pirate parrot into some gold laying hen is too much IMO

Yeah, I agree it doesn't make a ton of sense but does giving a bird 20 cooked meat and it lay 20 eggs make as much sense. I am putting out ideas and talking about them because it gives the developers stuff to think about. Rezecib voiced having more then one trade to the yaarctopus a day as long as it isn't a dish and that works too. Otherwise if you don't find a good spot near him in the first season it could take you a day to get to him and back home.

I'm reminded of something else in the game that doesn't quite line up with expectations of reality, but I'm having trouble putting my finger on it.

as a wigfrid user (yes i know people think she is OP and there is a lot of hate on her) gold is a necessary resource for her buffs(battle helm and battle spear). with that said golds value in SW has increased because it is harder to get gold in the first place. the luxury machete is awesome but with a 40 bamboo farm it burns out in about 2 cycles of cutting down and regrowing. plus all the other luxury equipment that we all love and adore.

as a disclaimer i understand that the game isn't complete and that if lava caves are like normal caves gold, flint and nitre will fall from the ceiling and make it a renewable resource. so at this point in the game it is more challenging to use wigfrid.

@4zakken it takes me about 3-4 years in game to run out of gold and then i am kind of suffering and start a new world

No, gold isn't a must on her that's your preference and if you cannot get gold do not demand the game to change, instead change and adapt your playstyle.

There is enough gold to do everything you want. If you are wasting some then it's not the game's fault.

@grekon hahahaha i love how even though i say that the game is incomplete and i understand that this is a the challenge i face as a wigfrid user, you still get pissed off by my suggestion. what are you 12? that we cant have a civil conversation and put ideas no matter have far fetched they are on the table. i never once said that there was a problem with the game. what i did say was that it is incomplete, which is true because of the updates. have a pleasant day my short tempered friend

What that i wrote suggested that I got pissed off? I didn't even mention your suggestion in my post. I just wrote that your statement that gold is a must for Wigfrid isn't true.

Sorry but did I do anything that seemed childish? Do not bring up age in the conversation that isn't related to it. Makes you look immature.

You made a statement. I rebutted it. You then followed up with an insult. I wonder...

You suggested that there should be another source of gold - which implies that you think that there is lack of gold(there is something wrong with the game)

Don't go around undermining others just because they don't agree with you.

I love wigfrid and she's usually the character i play whether I'm playing solo or DST. She is very gold intensive if you prefer to use battle helm/spear especially in SW. But even besides those items she has great perks when it comes to fighting. If making those items is hitting your gold supply hard then i would recommend giving up one (or even both?).

For extra damage: A battle spear is obviously not the best weapon in the game but if you don't want to invest into anything else and would still like to have something better than a regular spear then give up the helm. Having something like a seashell suit should be more than enough for wigfrid especially since she can heal back a lot of the damage dealt to her (A helm absorbs 80% and a seashell suit 75% so you're really only giving up 5% and they have the same durability)
For extra armor: If you really prefer the extra 5% that it'll absorb then using a regular spear will suffice or maybe even making a better weapon if you can manage to do so.

Yaarctopus, slot machine, and trawl netting can get you some gold if you're really having troubles. I tend to save most of my dubloons to refine into gold when i play wigfrid and only gamble with the slot machine if i have to.

...

  • Gold is a luxury = true
  • Doubloons are a luxury = true
  • Doubloons are mainly for the use of the slot machine <3 (well not mainly, but are the only things that the slot machine accepts)
  • Wigfrid's helm and spear are understandably a thing of hers and players who use them/her.
  • Presenting suggestions in a civilized tone = good (even I think of capturing a talking parrot and making it poop gold coins)
  • ...
  • Reacting to an unimplemented suggestion dismissively right off the bat...
  • Getting offended...
  • Ok not gonna touch that

I suggest just adjusting the play style? there are other better (if I may be so bold) weapons and armor in game that would be an alternative to the norm?

  • The Cutlass Supreme - I usually keep one handy for tough fights, and just use the machete for general uses and fights...
  • shell armor or the classic log suit... I mean football hat is relatively harder to come by in SW than in RoG, but it's still...

Anyway, I like the idea of making the bird poop gold coins in a bird cage, but it would be too op even if you just feed it meat... :T maybe rethink the balance issue? IDK, don't mind me... just passing through...

(/ O__O)/ *flies away*

I play solely as Wigfrid in DS and in SW gold is an issue for her infact after 40 days I go out only looking for more gold, The thing is SW has a challenge in similar as ROG.

take for example Gears can now easily be acquired by killing a whale or something else on water that will spawn those knights which are super easy to kill (More easier then killing a dog fish) but acquiring gold now relies on collecting doubloons (will take whole season for trading between Yaarctopus) but that is the new Challenge.

now we still have to wait for updates to come that will show how we can renew resources such as stones, nitrates and flints etc.

When i was played wigfried , i was out of gold at the end of year 2 ... unfortunatly , i loosed my save due to an annoying bug , so i didn't had the time to find a solution of that. Maybe if magma pile replenish a little , for having a minimum supply of gold should be an intersting thing untill the lava cave will be avaible.

Your suggestion is rather interesting. It would fix late game lack of gold issues due to it barely being renewable without caves being implemented. (Although I've heard that in the files, there's something about a Volcano cavern?). I do believe your suggestion would need a bit of tweeking though, since although in the stock game, you could give a bird Cooked MM, get an egg and exchange to Pig King for 1 gold, we're eliminating one step in this equation. That, and Dubloons could potentially be used for the slot machine, which could give a variety of prizes the Pig King wishes he could.

As for my idea for a tweak, perhaps make it so that the Pirate Bird gives a dubloon (when caged), every 3 feedings, so it still gives out eggs and isn't as spammable. If we need to go further, maybe a cap on dubloons the bird can give daily? In the mean time, although you do play Wigfrid, you must realize that you got to be a bit more conservative with your gold usage. As mentioned by Asparagus, the Cutlass Supreme is a great usage for a combat weapon. As for bamboo and such, right now, perhaps try digging them out and replanting and re fertilizing? It would use less flint in the long run, but you would need a monkey farm for the mass manure you'd require.

Mind you, if your world isn't fully explored, there has bound to be gold out there somewhere! Hopefully....

Anywho, best of luck surviving!
