Lifejacket

Recommended Posts

I used cheats just to answer this question! When your boat breaks with a life jacket on, you wake up on the nearest island with some logs and grass nearby. You won't have all of your stuff from what i recall.

Indeed you loose all your loot and gain some logs and gras...and your life I guess. ^^

Sort of useless item, because bottles are not renewable and its much easier just to farm 100 poop from monkeys lose your sanity to 0 and then go farm crabs for beard and make 2-3 meat effigy.

At least thats what i did, though i havent died in the sea yet :p i imagine that would suck losing your inventory without a chanse to pick it up!

It would be awesome, if you're ressurected by a meat effigy or a touch stone or any other method and then go back on the sea with few trawl nets and could loot it back!

How awesome that would be :D

Of course not everything would be lootable, but since you can get a rock in the trawl net now anyway, it would make sense wouldn't it? And of course some of the items would perhaps be unusable the more they are at the bottom of the sea and some would get carried away by the currents... but still - it would be awesome to loot back your sunk stuff with few trawl nets :)

I tried with woodie, just lose "all my items", wake up on the nearby island with some rough materials, just some logs and grass, but the loot was still floating on the water (lucy axe on the maps ) all of my items. just and easy trip for get my precious back with all other items.

The annoying thing is you can wreck right next to an island without the vest and you still die, period. You'd think wrecking in the shallow water would give you a good chance to be washed ashore safely, deep water seems reasonable to have a high chance of permanent death, but with even still a slim chance you may wash onto a random island. Your stuff depending on what it is will stay where you died, some stuff will sink and become unrecoverable, things like rocks seem to sink on water, etc.

I haven't died in those circumstances, but I think it would be fair to wash ashore if you sink within a pretty close radius of an island.

bottles are renewable, you can find them randomly in trawl nets.

I actually got one as a drop and have died since.  It resurrects you at a nearby island with the exact resources to build a log raft.  You can later pick up your items from the ocean if you want.  No Trawl net is needed, but it will all be wet when recovered.  Hope this helps.

So here's my reasoning, nothing in Don't Starve prior to SW is 100% fatal, not even the games namesake Starving, most things will kill you with time but even charlie generally takes more than one bite out of you. So why is water 100% fatal, especially if you're literally in the ankle deep area (aka right next to an island), now if I wreck in the deepest are of the sea, and don't have any sort of flotation device I can see it being highly likely to just let you drown, but even then it would be nice to have a chance to not die and to wash up on an island in relative safety. So I feel there should be /more/ flotation items, all of them allow you to swim in water, but you will get pulled under in deep/deepest ocean if you don't get out in time and then become washed ashore somewhere.

yea i found a trident aswell, it didnt seem to do much more dmg than a spear tho...

To aquatic mobs, trident deals triple the spears damage - 102. To other mobs, regular spear damage. It also has the durability of a spaer.

For reference, you could kill a blue whale in 7 hits and a shark in 2.

EDIT: Not to aquatic mobs. Whenever you are on a boat, it deals triple damage. So, it's even better.
