    • A tiny bit, but it will still be enjoyable, just not as cool.

Personally, I´m not that bothered. I mean it´s a shame, cause it would be fantastic if it was additional content to the real game, but I still think it will be fun. I just don´t think I´m going to play it all that much.

I don't really care, because there have been many arguments for seperation that I find agreeable.

A few off the top of my head..

  • Apparently been in development before DST
  • Giants? On these islands?
  • Winter ocean is a no-no in a tropical setting.

so that's what I think.

Don't care how it gets released. I just hope SW will bring a lot of new content and mechanics to make the DS universe feel fresh (for me at least) again. It certainly has the potential to do so, and considering there's so many things we haven't seen yet, I have high hopes for SW.

what news? can you point it out?

I second this. In a few weeks, it may be very misleading else.

EDIT: I mispelled misspelled spelled "misleading" wrong.

EDIT2: I shall sum the poll up in a formula

x is an arbitrary number of votes

option 1: x

option 2: x/2

option 3: x

option 4: 1

so... we got a tie between the not-caring and the disappointed, with a noteworthy field inbetween. But it doesn't look like anybody turns away from SW just because of "the news", so as long as Capy (or Klei) doesn't make more unappreciated changes, they might get away with it.

^ That

We're getting new content for a game we enjoy playing, what's there to be sad about? If one particular way will give the possibility to see even more of said planned content than the other, I'm all for it.

@Quyzbuk, @tinco and those who prefer playing SW as a standalone.

What are your personal reasons to prefer Shipwrecked as a standalone rather than a dlc ?

I'm asking about personal reasons, not technical difficulties/hard to implement, planned as this etc. and in the case that dlc or standalone would have had the same content.

In short if there was the same exact game and you just had to chose to play it as a standalone or as additional content to the original game.

I see that both "sad" and "not at all" are equal right now. I guess there are more people supporting standalone than I thought after the great rage wave of '31.

I think most people who were disappointed have griefed their loss and have accepted Klei's decision.

Before the announcement as a standalone, there was denial ("no way SW will be a standalone, it's nonsense"), then as it was announced anger came, bairgaining and alternatives, and finally acceptance.

People tend to be more vocal when they dislike or oppose something. There are millions of PC Don't Starve players. Only about 30-50 people have said here that they don't like the standalone idea, and a similar amount on Reddit. One could argue that the other millions of players don't care or actually like the idea. (I am not saying they do. Most people probably haven't heard of SW or don't know it is planned as standalone.)

There are people who don't want SW to be a standalone game. There a people who don't mind. Klei have read about it and they will make an announcement about the situation and their plans. Can we please stop the "us vs. them" nonsense? Can we stop dismissing others' opinions? Can we please, please stop speaking for others and using these "many people will agree with me" arguments?

Implementation - Like it or not, this IS a personal thing too, I don't want a portal or some other nonsense that will feel hamfisted to me (and probably others), I want to Scrooge McDuck dive headfirst into the new content. I don't want the worldgen competing with the old content when generating a new world, nor do I want it like the caves where it just generates with pre-defined defaults (which would likely happen if you took the portal method), I want to set each and every aspect to my liking when I become familiar with it so I can continue to challenge myself afterward.

Experience & Ambience - I don't want a blizzard on my tropical island, I want to feel like I'm genuinely in a very different part of the world with tropical themed creatures / monsters / foods / etc. That means NO surprise Deerclops while I'm poking around a volcano, no Beargers trying to hibernate in an area that is torrid most of the time, and no penguins making ice glaciers on my white sandy beaches.

There is an overarching theme clearly meant for this, and I want Klei/Capi to hit me with their best shot at it (i.e. not have to manually make it myself through worldgen)

Burnout - Do you know how much faster this tends to happen if you have to wade through so much older content for the umpteenth time while you are trying to experience the new? Carry over the content that makes sense and stays true to the vision for this version, and that's it. The new biomes / seasons will be bringing their own intricacies to the core gameplay, so why bog it down with old concepts and mechanics if you don't have to?

Being standalone doesn't mean that some of the smaller things won't eventually trickle back to the DS & RoG experience, they very well could add small touches here and there if they are widely liked and accepted in Shipwrecked. But if they are changing up as much as I suspect they are, it will be best conveyed as a separate experience, instead of trying to fit it within the confines of the metaphorical box that is DS & RoG.

These are my reasons.

EDIT: Well apparently it doesn't matter now since it's DLC again.

Can we please stop the "us vs. them" nonsense? Can we stop dismissing others' opinions? Can we please, please stop speaking for others and using these "many people will agree with me" arguments?

The silly squabbling "us vs them" has stopped for many days now, don't act as if you were trying to bring peace and reason back on the forum.

When I was asking their reasons it wasn't meant as "Why the heck could someone prefer [...]" and I'm pleased to see constructive arguments.

If the silent majority didn't voice its opinion, it doesn't automatically mean that there were only 50 big mouths disappointed against million of supportive silent people.

They didn't voice their opinion, so they could be in favor, they could not care, they could be disappointed.

So no, don't try to argue with the broken "If they said nothing they probably approved."

I don't want the worldgen competing with the old content when generating a new world, nor do I want it like the caves where it just generates with pre-defined defaults (which would likely happen if you took the portal method), I want to set each and every aspect to my liking when I become familiar with it so I can continue to challenge myself afterward.

I would pay money to finally have cave world gen settings. I keep giving up on my Lights Out playthrough because it's daytime in the caves. I can't even...there needs to be world gen settings for Shipwrecked (and caves).
