How to be a DsT PvP God?

Recommended Posts

I didn't want to create a new topic so I guess I'll just ask here since you're all PVP experts.

I always seem to experience a slight delay before my character attacks. Like they will just stand there a bit before actually attacking. I have movement prediction disabled. Anybody know what's up with that?

Does it happen on all servers? Do you have high ping?

I usually play on Klei's SanFran Survival server where my ping is usually <50 or so. I was in an even and planned match with somebody with a higher ping and managed to lose to them because of the delay I experience.

Yes, there is a delay between targeting and doing the action (attacking). It's almost guaranteed that you'll have some with high ping, because the server is basically trying to register your action. I've had it happen with low ping as well.

Targeting with mouse (click someone's head while pressing control) might, situationally, be a better alternative. It seems to respond more quickly.

Ah, okay. I tend to use ctrl + f so that may be a big issue. I'll definitely try using the mouse more next time. Thanks for the explanation.

I'll be hosting a PvP competition this summer, look forward to that. The server will be in LA and the ping is relatively low (50>). When I come up with a date after talking to Sindex, I'll repost the thread.

Should I spread information about cheating in competitive games?

Especially as I don't use them?

Is it cheating?   No.  Not according to Klei.

Is it lame as FUUUuuuu**!?!?  Yes!

As I keep saying.  I found out that some of the "better" pvp-ers were spamming the f-key and thought it was lame so I posted this macro to level the playing field.

Now EVERYONE has a NES Advantage!

Hooray for socialism!!!

I don't think "ThePlayer:EnableMovementPrediction(false)" spamming was ever really a macro, I think a dev released the command prior to your joining of the forums, hence why you never knew about until a couple months ago. They fixed the spamming which is good in some scenarios, but the command really isnt a "Macro". I don't really understand why others think PVP is a major subject in Don't Starve Together, when it hasn't even reached full completion. Day after day devs are doing their hardest work to improve the game to the best of their ability, When all the kinks are fixed, I feel that pvp will become a real thing.

Just my 2 cents, I'm sure some will either agree or disagree. ;)

Disabling movement prediction is not a macro.  It is a command that makes it so instead of trying to predict where you are in the server it instead shows you where you are in the server.  That way when you swing at an enemy you hit it if a hit is landed, when you run away from an enemy you can get away and not take dmg  even though you cleary dodge in time and far from dmg.

I don't understand why we have to keep explaining this to you.  It doesn't grant extra speed, or give you an extra hit, or spam buttons.  It simply makes it so then when you're playing the game, where you see yourself on the screen is where you actually are in the server.

Speaking of which,

Yesterday i was playing in the NY community server, a survival world with pvp enabled (which makes utterly no sense to me but okay...)

While playing with a friend in the early days Alpha_Omega (AKA TrueAlphaOmega) decided to join the world to kill people, because YOLO and what not.

While playing he was talking about his macro and blabbering about pvp'ing everybody to death kicking ass and be the (anti?)hero of some sort.

(Un)lucky me had the chance to run into this guy. As lazy as i am, i usually play flat down in bed with my laptop on, you know, my lap. Mouse on my mattress. Not the most ideal position to PvP, i dont use any macros and my ping of 100-200 usually does not really help either. I played on that server since some friends of my play there regularly.

Anyways, as i said i ran into Alpha_Omega, but i was fortunate enough to find the pan flute as well as a fire staff, and being a wigfrid player i was not really into running away from him with my very fortunate gear.

So i first tried to attack him normally...

i.could.not.land.a.single.hit.

Honestly, whatever macro it may be, he constantly stunlocked and i went through 2 battered helmets, with around 80 health to spare i decided to just keep him asleep/drowsy and just use the fire staff on him untill he died, which worked as planned.

But for me, this showed me that a macro, though not illegal, is certainly not fair play as PvP at the moment is just 'who strikes first gets to keep hitting', and thats what kept happening.

Than he went blabbering on about how it was not fair that he lost and how i was such a noob that i used that 'OP' gear in need to kill him, that i should have fought him 'normally' (macro is normal?)

All in all, this experience showed me that macro using is not a gentlemans act, its about trying to maintain a big ego and being a sour loser when it did not work for you, as showed by my experience with Alpha_Omega AKA as truealphaomega.

I'm in no regards a PvP'er, i just use whats given to me to my best call, and that worked out for me luckily.

I did not plan on searching this and commenting, but using a macro and blaming me of not playing fair is something i will not stand for.

Be a man, play like everyone else or go to wilderness/endless servers which are made for PvP imo, and dont whine about playing fair if you use macros.

P.S.

Before someone might say 'if you dont like PvP, why do you play in a PvP enabled server'

As i said, friends play there often, and i find it to be convenient sometimes to get rid of d*ckheads or griefers who join the server and burn or kill everything they spot on the same day to leave right after.

I play for fun, not to be disrespected or accused of not playing fair. I never lie to people just to be able to kill them, i'll always try to help my fellow players.

Peace out.

i probably wont respond after this, i stated my opinion and for me thats enough.

I manged to get through some of that, but mainly TLDR.

You were salty that you could not melee me to death with pan flute so after I hit you enough to go through two of your helmets you raged and fire-staff / pan fluted me to death with LOL's all around.

I had you down to three hits which is pretty funny when I was a day 1 fresh spawn   In the end it was good fun and although I did die, the pan flute / firestaff combo is godlike.

I think most people know that the game now is just a race to the pan flute which is a little sad but remember that we're still IN TESTING.

Hey... at least I did not log out to avoid getting killed like some people.

Tip: When people trash-talk without video evidence... yea.... because we're supposed to trust you right?  Where have I heard the argument about having to trust people in the news without video evidence?

What is the best way to explore the map in a PvP scenario?

Look for the red ground and search for pan flute. mainly luck but stay on roads since there's always a road through pan flute area.

(Unless this has been changed...) it's a brick road, specifically. Pan flute spawns near Glommer's Statue. Glommer can be found near the Pig Village in the Deciduous biome. Brick road usually leads to Pig Village.

In case you're following roads and they branch off or mix up, choose the brick road first.

Also, the Glommer's Statue thing means if you're exploring at night and can't see the edges of the screen, you can periodically check your map. The statue shows up with its own icon. You won't miss it even in the dark. Check around that first before combing the whole biome.

Oh, and last one, the Deciduous biome looks red on the map. But onscreen, the ground only turns red during Autumn(?) Might have to keep that in mind in case you spawn in a different season.
