What's the best mod out there?

Recommended Posts

That largely depends on what you're into and what you consider interesting.

Do you want the game to be harder, have more content, what?

Give us some info on what you'd want in a mod and we could better direct you towards one.

This plus opinions are opinions.

"Interesting" is subjective, but I can tell you that the most popular mods for Don't Starve right now are, In order:

DisplayFoodValues

Minimap HUD

Always on status

Where's my Beefalo?

Max Stacks

Smarter Crock Pot

Deluxe Campfires

More map icons

Storm Cellar

Map Revealer

The random top mods on the left side of the downloads section gives a random 5 of the top 20

I prefer mods that add cool new items, enemies, or things to explore, that don't change the core game experience, but only add onto it.

Right now I have:

More Minimap Icons - Litterally that. Icons for things like Beefalo, Rock Lobsters, Giants, Etc.

Nightmares Tab - New tools, armor, and walls craftable with Nightmare Fuel. Also spooky new shadow creatures!

Steam & Punk - New Axe, Armor, clothing, and friendly AI craftable with Gears

Up and Away - Adds a side quest, where you give a beefalo to a shopkeeper who spawns on roads only in a rain storm. Once done, he gives you some magic beans, that upon a full moon, grow into a bean stalk. Climbing it lets you explore a whole new world in the clouds.

Up and Away is the largest released as far as content goes, with HITD right behind it.  But, as everyone else is saying, it depends on what you like.

um, we have more content than UnA :p

Not to nit pick or anything, we have about double the content, (31mb vs 15mb, size wise)

Difference is, your mod changes a huge portion of the core game play, so if you want mods for core Don't Starve, Up and Away is the largest.

that it does, but it still does not change the fact that ours is the largest :p (coding does not take up much space, it's art, sounds, etc that take up space)

We have not even released everything yet, our Dev build it's over 100mb ;)

Ok guys. No need to get into a mod waving contest. Back on topic. ;)

I would like to take a chance to point out that the featured mods on the download page have not changed (with the exception of Up and Away) since I first started browsing the forums over 6 months ago. Most of the mods on there are about a year old or so (ish) and If it is done by most downloaded, it further ensures that they are the most seen, since any mod uploaded to this site is pretty much gone from public eyes after 30 days unless they specifically search for it.

I really think there should be a group for collaborations, like HITD, UnA, the Waverly mod etc.

*grumble*he started it*grumble*

It all depends on what your looking for in Don't Starve. If you want a fresh new experience, something like Hero in the Dark is really fun. Maybe you just need a few tweaks to improve your experience, like JoeW's list of popular mods. But if you want more stuff, while keeping the core game play, then my list may suit you.

Depends on the player :p

(Also, putting Merm houses on high can actually be pretty fun! Its almost like a Zombie apocalypse!)

what list?

there was a list of mods that they used earlier in the thread,

My point above is that there is no difference between the "top downloaded" mods and the "featured" mods section (with the exception of Up and Away, none of the featured mods have really changed in the past 8 months I have been here, except for that one)

Wow thanks everyone i will try and check them all out, what i was looking for was too try both options one where its still the core game but then later on change and have it make the game have a different feel so everyone has helped out here. Also are all mods compatible with the giants DLC?

Ye. but even if a mod says it isn't, enable it anyways just to check. Ive got like 4 mods that say they won't be compatible, but work perfectly fine.
