How did you make Krampus appear?

Recommended Posts

I got him to appear by killing 20 - 30 pengulls in 5 - 10 days.

You can kill pengulls all day and night. Simply set up a perma-fire near one of their colonies, attack one then run away quickly. Typically this encourages only one or two of them to follow you; if they all follow you and slide-tackle you it'll knock your health off pretty quickly, so this tactic is important.

Once you've got one or two on their own, wait for the "danger" music to (almost) stop playing and they'll stop sliding on the ground. Now approach one of them cautiously; if you're too quick they'll slide away from you. Facing their front and walking slowly is easiest. Then spam with your spear and in 4-5 hits they'll be deader than a dead rooster.

At night it's a bit easier - simply walk up behind one of the outliers in the snoozing colony and run your character against their body to nudge its sleeping body away from the flock. When you're about two thirds of a screen distance away you can safely kill it without alerting the others.

Once you've mastered that, you can gauge how long the danger music lasts, so you'll be able to approach the snoozing colony towards the end of it playing to get just one or two of them to wake up and slide over to you before snoozing again, meaning you needn't nudge them.

They usually drop an egg which gives you food to sustain the massacre. Mmm... eggs.

I did this with a couple of colonies and Krampus appeared in all his ravaging red reindeer glory. He didn't drop his sack, much to my dismay, which is mainly why I'm starting this thread. Am on PS4 so no debug console for me :-) Also I'm a compulsive eater, not a cheater.

After reading around the forums I've heard others say that:

* A butterfly rampage caused him to appear.

* Storing bunnies in chests and massacring them rapidly brought him into being.

What ways have you caused him to appear? Are there any methods you've successfully repeated?

The way naughtiness works, is you have 30 points until Krampus spawns the 1st time. Dif. animals give diff. points. rabbits give 1, any type of bird, even tallbirds give 2A(not sure of Pengulls), beefalo give 4. Your naughtiness goes down slowly over time. When you reach 30 Krampus spawns, and can spawn 2 Krampii past day 50, 3 past day 100, etc. When Krampus is spawned naughtiness goes to 0 and the original cap is a random # from 30-50. I usually kill beefalo that i lure away from the group.

With Wickerbottom I burned through 20 "birds of the world" books and like 12 "Sleepytime Stories" books.

I ended up with over 180 morsels in a few days and spawned over 30 Krampii.

I'm excited to try this with her, thanks for sharing! :-)

I've unlocked all characters except Wes and Maxwell, and Wickerbottom's the only one I haven't played.

It bothered me that the Pan Flute is so limited due to requiring Mandrakes to craft it. Wickerbottom seems like the perfect antidote :-)

P.S. Damn, now my chances of not pulling an all-nighter just to play more before work shrank even further.. (o_O)

It's kind of a pain to get that all set up on Wickerbottom. That's a LOT of reeds. I got lucky and have a reed field I managed to clear out (after 100 days) on my world.

Do you replant reeds in your base then use the book she's got to insta-grow them? Am envisaging a rather large, dense reed crop in a pig village with a lightning rod nearby.

I appreciate it depends how many reeds you can get a hold of in your world, but a little 3 day exploring and you could get a fairly sweet setup like this, correct?

FTFY

I got his sack. And i only had to spent 3 entire winters murdering snowbirds. At least now i can make blowdarts to kill everything that moves :)

Also, if you have the patience and the eggs, smallbirds give 6 points. But i recommend killing birds (mainly snowbirds, because blowdarts are awesome).

Anyone know what the rate naughtiness goes down daily is?

If you can stop punching babies in the face for a full minute your naughtiness will go down by one. It'll drop at one point per minute until you either start punching babies again or reach zero points.

You can't replant reeds, and I didn't even think about using that bloody book.

Here, if you don't mind game spoilers:

Naughtiness

Krampus will come and steal a very naughty player's items. It can break containers and steal entire stacks of items, then escape by paradoxically jumping into his own bag. One or two Krampii can spawn at the same time after day 50, and two or three after day 100.

Each minute of restraint reduces naughtiness by 1. Once the player reaches a threshold of naughtiness, a random number between 31 and 50, Krampus will come and steal your items. After Krampus appears, the naughtiness level is reset to 0.

It is worth noting that setting creatures ablaze will not award the player with naughtiness points. This is because the fire is considered to be the killing factor. The same goes for Tooth Traps and Bee Mines.

Creature  Naughtiness
Baby Beefalo 6
Smallbird 6
Beefalo 4
Pig (Excluding Werepigs and Guardian Pigs) 3
Bunnyman and Beardlord 3
Redbird and Snowbird 2
Tallbird and Smallish Tallbird 2
Pengull 2
Rabbit and Beardling 1
Bee 1
Butterfly 1
Crow 1

And it's easier to kill a bunch of Jackalopes or even a ton of butterflies (once you get the hang of their flying to hit them) which is easily done in one to two days instead of 5 (but the post-kill cool down period remains.)

SLAUGHTER EVERYTHING

Butterflies are a good favourite and they dont hurt back or run very far.

But that taunting flapping they do with their wings...they are askin' for it I tell ya asking for their murder!

(Okay, it's time for a game break and I need to regain some RL sanity ;)

i've tried various tactics... all revolve around killing snowbirds, because blow darts are great

1 - Wickerbottom birds of the world and sleepytime stories combination as already described- i keep some chests full of rabbits nearby so that when my sanity gets low i can move onto murdering them instead (to get a stockpile of beard hair while still increasing naughtiness).

This method is great, you can spawn krampus super quickly but even with tam o shanter and taffy the sanity drain is tough to deal with.

2 - Stand in the middle of many bird traps wearing feather hat (or use birds of the world). Store live birds in chests and then when they time comes, slaughter them all to summon a krampus.

This method is too time consuming for my liking.

3 - Feather hat + ice staff + weapon

Good method but quite expensive to keep making ice staffs

4 - Feather hat + boomerang

This is the method i think is best IF you are good at catching the boomerang. I need more practice :s
