How did you make Krampus appear?

Recommended Posts

i've tried various tactics... all revolve around killing snowbirds, because blow darts are great

1 - Wickerbottom birds of the world and sleepytime stories combination as already described- i keep some chests full of rabbits nearby so that when my sanity gets low i can move onto murdering them instead (to get a stockpile of beard hair while still increasing naughtiness).

This method is great, you can spawn krampus super quickly but even with tam o shanter and taffy the sanity drain is tough to deal with.

2 - Stand in the middle of many bird traps wearing feather hat (or use birds of the world). Store live birds in chests and then when they time comes, slaughter them all to summon a krampus.

This method is too time consuming for my liking.

3 - Feather hat + ice staff + weapon

Good method but quite expensive to keep making ice staffs

4 - Feather hat + boomerang

This is the method i think is best IF you are good at catching the boomerang. I need more practice :s

I'm still pondering how Wicky can permanently live in caves without leaving, and see no way due to the resources you need to recollect to keep her sanity. but that will be another thread another time.

With her, I think it's (likely) best to simply double your anticipated bee box production (for sanity regaining foods that you'd use) compared to other characters.

For instance, assuming many people use two to three Bee Boxes to start (and about six flowers per box until production is fast enough you don't need more flowers,)  double that. (but six flowers per box is still fine of course unless you need Honey really fast.)

You'll be making a LOT of Pumpkin Cookies/Taffy (assuming you're not wearing a Tam O' Shanter and repairing it with Sewing kits yet.)  Fortunately, honey lasts a long time (40 days, 60 when stored in an Ice Box,) plus it is awesome when used in Honey Poultices/Hams. Or just carry it in stacks and eat it raw when not mitigating sanity/major Hunger/major Health.

You can't lose with too much honey (but looks suspiciously at that DLC Giant Badger thing in the future.)

As for gleeful mass slaughter of those lil' creatures  quickly raising Naughtiness, the gathering of multiple Jackalopes/Birds (the latter bird traps depending if you have a frequent silk output like you would for twigs and grass for land traps. I cleared out the Spider Nest Quarry next to the Lumpy trees all as tier 3 during my first winter so I didn't even really need to set up a Spider Farm [besides replanting one or two] which many people will need to first do) and Mass Killing them when your Sanity is low (using Uncooked Green Mushrooms, Standing on Evil Flowers from Thing placements and/or Evil Flower Farms,  and/or going into darkness adjacent to a fixed light and leaving before Charlie attacks all work quickly)  works well in the beginning. When more established, a Nightmare Amulet also is the "quick method" for this.

Until you are ready to do so, you can store them in multiple chests or Backpacks (AKA "Hobo Chests." As a matter of fact, I prefer backpacks since you can pick them up and move them to wherever you want [and drop another one for collecting purposes at the gathering site until full] killing them at your leisure and not having to run over to the "collection site" just to gather them.)

Regarding the much quicker methods without spending costly and possibly more annoying to get resources, the Boomerang is the best option for simple to obtain resources (you did set up a spider and possibly tree farm by now, right?) Regarding

I almost went (RL) INSANE trying to figure this out until (and I forgot whom it was but my eternal gratitude goes out to you) some poster made it clear you should try to catch the Boomerang AFTER it hits the enemy (or begins to return to you if a miss.) I also personally recommend  you stand still and remember you must use the ACTION command (default is Space Bar on PC, and I believe the X button on PS4) NOT the Combat command! If your hand is out before the Boomerang is near, you're doing it right. Once you are comfortable with this combat routine, this is (IMHO) the quickest way of mass killing innocent creatures easily (unless you're Wickerbottom of course, then the porps quote detailed that best.)

I made a video on how I do it because I was bored.

That's genius Deacon. I'm regretting not playing as Wickerbottom yet - am going to rectify that right now  Great share, thank you!

For characters other than Wickerbottom suggestions by other users are interesting. Though I've yet to see anything easier than my pengull farming; it really is straight forward and relatively quick once you get the hang of it (< 5 mins). Then again, it's a tactic limited to Winter season, which is annoying.

Got my first Krampus sack, woohoo!

I killed birds and crows over a 5 day period with boomerangs (they seem easier and cheaper to craft than blowdarts, and much quicker than traps). Krampus appeared, I killed him easily with my mega upgraded WX-78, and he dropped his sack :) Talk about useful, it's a brilliant addition to the inventory.

I made myself a Krampus killing field.

1. Find a place with nothing but birds and insects, settled on a bee field.

2. Capture killer bees and butterflies.

3. Make three chests, I arranged mine in a triangle (I understand Krampii can spawn up to 3 at a time, hasn't happened to me yet).

4. Put killer bees in the chests.

5. Plant the butterflies in a nice field of flowers between the chests.

6. Surround each chest with tooth traps. (This is why I chose a rabbit-and-other-larger-animals-free zone, nothing to set off my traps).

7. (Optional) Put some man-made turf under all the chests/flowers so that lureplants don't eat all the flowers and traps when you're not around. This one occurred to me when I returned to find a lureplant right in the middle of what used to be a flower field surrounded by trapped chests.

8. (Optional) Destroy nearby beehives so you don't accidentally attack them (I've got 10 bee boxes!).

9. Kill butterflies. It takes maybe 10 minutes to kill 30 of them with this method. If I bring 3 dragonpies, I have time to easily summon Krampus 3 times before returning to base.

Yeah, this one takes a couple game days to set up the first time, but after that, setup is nothing more than resetting any traps that he may have sprung. I've summoned him a dozen or so times thus far and no Krampus sack though. I'm wondering if there's something special I have to do to get more than one Krampus to spawn at a crack, as well.

i think it depends on what day you're on, at later days you can get more... until day 50 only 1 spawns, at day 50 1 or 2 can spawn, after day 100 2 or 3 can spawn (according to the wiki anyway) I always seem to get 2 on day 350ish though...

Last time i was out killing them with boomerang and feather hat method... took too much damage from that stupid thing and was too lazy to go back and get healing items when i ran out, after all its only krampus right, he's easy to kill... nope he got me good.. ressed back at the effigy to find deerclops rampaging through my base... he got me good too. Eventually after running back fromt he touchstone in the freezing cold i attempted to retrive my things and got double teamed by the pair of em... so that was the end of wickerbottom .. day 356

Seen a lot of posts since July and you're the first to come up (to the best of my knowledge) of the phrase "Krampus Killing Field." I like it! Hope it brings great things to ya!
