simplex
i agree that mods are cheats except if they're retexture or reskin mods which i don't think i've seen one for this game, but i'm not really a mod ***** so maybe other people knows they exist. "Mods are cheats" is a veeeery broad statement. jbeetle
Most important question: Does it make the game more fun for you? If the answer is yes, use it. This obviously doesn't apply to every game because sometimes more fun for you could mean less fun for others, but it does apply here. the truthseeker
I'll admit using the Always On just so I don't have to hover stats while moving, and I don't even use it most of the time... And when I choose to Show my Camp (and think it's worthy enough to) I'll use the Architectural Geometry to make it prettier for display purposes only. But currently, not even using any mods (But thinking of turning on the HUD mods by Cheerio and may occasionally toggle the Always On.) As long as the mods don't make the accomplishments easier and/or cheat the perma-death, it's fine with me. I just want to play the game the way it was intended until I master that state, then try mods that expand the game (new characters, new accomplishments that do not necessarily make the game easier,) when succeed- Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/29848-where-to-draw-the-line/page/2/#findComment-375326 Share on other sites

Cynical Cynicist
To be honest, I don't really mind mods at all if people explicitly state what mods they use after posting pictures. That way, I'll know what to admire and what to ignore. Ortorin
One idea that I have would to add one more section to the player profile: "What mods are you using?". Right along side "What's your favorite game". That way all that would be needed to know what mods someone has on in their game would be to visit their profile. This is also a good way for a player to show some support for the mods that they enjoy playing with. I would personally like this feature in these forums. Considering how prevalent mods are in this community, I feel like it is right at home. Such a system is up to JoeW, so we'd have to ask him about the idea. Side note here: Thank you for not hiding my posts during this multi-thread-spanning debate I have been pushing JoeW xDI know I get a little in-your-face sometimes... Ortorin
it really wouldn't be any different than now - you'd only know if it was obvious or the player wanted you to know. That can also be said about multitudes of different ideas shared between each-other in a forum setting. In any rate, it's an idea is all; one that I think fits into these forums nicely. gnarlytreeman
maybe folks would go for that but tbh, how many people actually keep up with their profiles? some i suppose, but i just edited mine like last week to add info, cause my profile was pretty much blank. not sure if the added feature would actually get any enough use to justify making it.{just to pointlessly argue the other side} Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/29848-where-to-draw-the-line/page/2/#findComment-375598 Share on other sites
hcbigaug
You call it cheating. I say it's fixing stuff that should be present from the get go. Always on is a no brainer. It should be in the game. Backpack/amulet slot? No brainer. It should be in the game. If they want you to make decisions on what to equip, they should put more items in the game that use said slots instead of making you drop your back back to put on armor. Ridiculous. Bigger containers? Hell yes. I cannot stand having 15 chests in my base to store stuff. I'd HAPPILY use more boards for bigger storage. It should be a feature. There are things that are part of the game that feel more like cheating than these mods... i.e., drying racks and jerky. Once you set up some drying racks and traps for rabbits you have essentially no worries. gnarlytreeman
no i completely agree some of the mods like always on, should be in the settings menu in the game, but alas currently they provide a game advantage outside of the vanilla game and thus are cheating. found another button. click. the extra slots stuff, definitely cheating, especially amulet and backpack slots, completely change gameplay, they offer a far different game experience Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/29848-where-to-draw-the-line/page/2/#findComment-375991 Share on other sites
AquaAtia
I really only use mods to add new stuff to the game such as playable characters and other mods such as the new "Pickle it" mod. Though I have to be honest latly when I delve into insanity for beard hair in my non Wilson play throughs I do sometimes cheat in that one more beard hair for my meat effingy but that's it. I say theres really no line play the game however you want. You want to spawn in yourself thulcite gear straight from the start? Go ahead! Want to toggle god mode to cream that level 3 spider den? Go ahead! It's your game you bought with your own money. There is really no line to single player experience IF and IF you don't brag about how you survived 200 days while keeping the cheating part a secret. And that's my 2 cents/rant. DudeNamedEvan
One could also argue that past day 150-200 hounds are no challenge, just an utter nuisance encouraging turtling in a base. So, even for a mod like Hound Poison, it boggles down to how it affects your playstyle, and if you find that effect to be an improvement or not.EDIT: Sorry for the double post, I meant it to glue to the previous one but took far too long. You know, I've been wanting to make a post along the same lines as this topic. Here's my review of the mods I've played in this theme. Always on StatusYou can see the numbers for your three faculties: hunger, sanity, and health. This offers no other benefit than quicker recognition of the levels of each faculty. Not a cheat mod at all.Cheat Level, 0 out of 10. willow players cant use that mod, because her sanity is different, and when I tried to use it... it gave me an error and I thought it might jazz up my saveso i was like OMGNONONONONONO UNINSTALL LETS SEE IF IT DID ANY DAMAGE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHI do that whenever steam says it couldn't sync \ Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/29848-where-to-draw-the-line/page/2/#findComment-377520 Share on other sites
