Jello
I've had the chance to get around to playing it today, and I was disappointed. The game doesn't rely on creating genuine fear and uneasiness through mood, music, and atmosphere; rather, it uses childish jump-scares. When I came to the second person who sits on a chair, I jumped a little when he turned around, had a "scary" red face, and the scream sound effect played. But that's all I did: jump. Where is the tension and sense of impending doom found in don't starve? Like the first time we saw eyes in the dark, thinking there was something there, but finding nothing? Or having the night watcher pop up in your camp? Or the the hand creeping into your campfire with that creepy music playing (I literally got the chills thinking about just now). What's in this so called horror mod? Just jump scares. They shouldn't call it jump scares anymore. They should just call it jumps. TL;DR screw you read it

F3RR1S
Well the atmosphere and mood comes from walking in the dark with a flashlight, not knowing whats going to happen, wanting to avoid whatever is in the woods. But I do see where you are coming from, Jello. And besides, they aren't making it to be "The Best Horror Mod", it's just a little fun thing for Halloween, and it shows off what Don't Starve is capable of. aredshroom
Different people have different tolerances for horror-ish conditions, which as mentioned by F3rris comes from walking in complete darkness with a flickering flashlight and something screaming at you. They did use jumpscares, but that also does contribute to the creepy atmosphere. If the jumps don't faze you, others might still get frightened from them. And yeah, it's just a mod for halloween, not to be the best representation of a complete horror game.

Spazmatic
If something is scary or not, is different for everyone. I didn't find the Screecher mod scary either, never really jumped or got terrified anywhere since some potential jumpscares were things I personally could see from miles away (the good sir in the chair who took a little too long to show his face or lack thereof for example, it had screamer and potential jumpscare written all over it). The atmosphere of the mod is the big plus, and it did a fine job to showcase what is possible with DS modwise
SharpNomo
Videogames in general aren't scary for me. Of course, if I saw any of the stuff you see in horror games in real life, I'd starting running in the other direction.
Battal
I don't think the Screecher mod was made with absolute terror scar-for-life stuff in mind, so much as being made to show the potential of mods in Don't Starve.
Dark
I personally thought the don't-look-or-it-takes-you part was pretty scary, suddenly seeing the monster and just having to quickly look away and keep walking. Other than that I think what other people already stated, it was probably made to show what you could do.

the truthseeker
Klei even said it was made to show what the users could do. And that's all I'll say on it here.
VeryCoolCat
It wasn't scary, I didn't jump once or feel fear while playing, finished it after I realized you can't stare at the monster on my 2nd time. There's only two games I've ever played where I actually got scared. Containment Breach and Amnesia.

23rd
I had a few jump moments but never the feel of dread that I got from amnesia or SCP... it was usually deterred by the possession of weaponry.(The following post should not be taken overly seriously.) That's crazy! You're crazy! Never mind the fact that you could be loaded to the asterisks with shotguns that can turn into grenade launchers that can turn into comically over sized fists and it still wouldn't put a dent in Pyramid Head, when you're at the bottom of Brookhaven Hospital you can't even use them against him. If the possibility of running into dead ends while a giant, lumbering beast that can kill you in so few hits chases you and your companion down dimly lit corridors doesn't give you at least a little bit of dread then you've got to stop playing with the lights on. Warburner
There is a difference between scary and creepy. The mod is creepy. Many horror games are actually considered creepy. Amnesia (the first one) and outlast are considered creepy. A true scary game would have to make you feel as if you're in danger irl.The above is the what the majority of people think, not my opinion. In my opinion, Outlast and The Screecher are creepy but Amnesia is scary.(I used other games to show examples of the genres)I guess http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEikGKDVsCc&hd=1 would explain it further. The Letter W
For what it was, I thought the atmosphere contributed more than the jump scares. Jump scares only work if you're invested in the seemingly calm situation. Everybody compares it to Amnesia but I couldn't get into that game. I found it... boring. I mean yeah, the game was pretty and did all the things that in theory would make in interesting (and scary, apparently) but... ehhhhh? But, one needs both positive and negative feedback to grow. Thank you for your feedback.
Ridley
It didnt scare me but I had alot of fun playing it I think that fun was the intentional goal.
