Hi Nekrodemon,

Judging by the point of failure in the log, it appears that the uploader is failing to open the modinfo.lua file for reading.

Am I correct in assuming that you replaced your username in that log with "____" for privacy reasons? Does your username have any non-english characters in it?  It's possible (likely) that the filename processing in the uploader may not deal correctly with non-english path names.

One thing you can try is to copy/move the folder you're trying to upload from to something much simpler, such as "C:\testmodupload\"

Let me know whether or not that works around the problem for you.

Cheers,

Brook

I discovered a little bug. I uploaded a mod to steam workshop on my old PC and could also update it with success, but I can't update it with nether my new PC or my girlfriends laptop. The Mod Uploader gives me the message that it was successful and also in the ModUploader.txt troubleshooting file is a line with "EndProgress ok: Mod update completed." but if don't stave is downloading the mods from the workshop it's downloading the old version.

A strange bug with the last update.

on mod update, mod uploader display this message :

Something went wrong while uploading your mod!Error : could not generate mod data file!

log file is empty,

I have tested to re-upload an older version of the mod(first uploaded successfully). i have the same error.

changed api_version number, with no success.

tested with modinfo from other mods, same problem...

it's a simple translation mod.

files in the folder :

modicon.texmodicon.xmlmodinfo.luamodmain.luafrench.po

if anyone have a solution?

Hi Mooztik,

There doesn't appear to have been any changes made to the Mod Uploader in the last update. Perhaps something has changed on your machine that is preventing it from working?  What operating system are you using Mod Uploader on? Is this the same machine that you've previously uploaded from?

hi Brook

nothing changed - same computer - same os - same hard drive/gamefolder/....

tried with admin rights, same issue.

changed mod folder, remake lua files ... etc

Can you post your operating system, and the exact path name to the mod folder you were attempting to upload?

Thanks for the info!

The Mod Uploader does not handle non-english filenames well, it's on my to-do list.  Can you try uploading the mod from a simpler folder name that has no French accent characters in it, for example "F:\ds_french_mod\" and see if that works?

There was a string handling issue causing the Mod Uploader to fail on non-ASCII file and folder names.  This should now be resolved as of the latest update.

I received the error: "Failed to write mod data file!"

What sorts of issues cause this error?

EDIT: The mod uploads again, thus collapsing the following details. I'm still curious what it is about the extraneous folders that offend the mod uploader.

My recent changes were cleaning up lua code, adding two subfolders (sound and sound_source), an fmod project, and a few sounds.

Other differences:

Last upload was from a *nix box. This upload is from a windows system.

I think we had that problem a while ago, not sure though. Try deleting everything that is only needed on the developers side, like sound_source for example. If that doesn't help you might want to consider uploading the mod so someone can take a look.

Thanks. Didn't expect a response so soon. That did seem to be the issue. I made an archive, and started deleting things until it uploaded.

I think the issue was that fmod creates some files that start with a period and those can't be uploaded.  I think they were called something like '.fsbcache' or '.fsbbackup'.

I have same issue - and I'd really appreciate it if someone looked into this problem... Maybe I am doing something wrong? I checked the log - and it says update went "ok", but the game still downloads old version of my mod through "subscribe" option.

Edit: After another Tools update the problem solved itself.

I have a problem that I need some help with. I am trying to create my first mod, a little mod that keeps Chester closer to you, reducing his maximum distance and target distance with the player. I first tried this with my own code of my own game, and it worked fine. However, I have tried to create a mod out of this tweak, but am unsuccessful. I have uploaded it to the Workshop, but it has made no change in Chester's behavior for myself or my friends who have tried the mod. I am unsure as to what the problem is with my mod, and would love some suggestions. How can I get my modified file (chesterbrains.lua) to replace the original file of anyone who uses the mod?

Thanks in advance!

I'm trying to mod Don't Starve Together and I don't have the base game Don't Starve (a friend gifted me the multiplayer thing) is there any way for me to get the tools? I haven't found them is the tools library.

Check the log.txt, it should hint towards a corrupt or confusing file or alike.
