A new update will be upon us in a week. This update will bring us an underground for our underground. Deep beneath the world of Don't Starve lies the remains of a civilization long forgotten by pigkind! What terrifying secrets will we uncover? ...Nobody knows. This calls for speculation!

I honestly believe we might see the ruins of a pig civilization. Complete with advanced terracotta architecture as well as intricate metal and glass craft. The "traps" that have been hinted at will be new, as well as very dangerous. Statues of great pig warriors that shoot blow darts (bear in mind- a whopping 100 damage!) when activated with tripwire! A mine that actually explodes when stepped on! Possibly even bronze, silver, and gold statues that come to life and fight with spears and shields.

Why a pig civilization?

During the "Strange New Powers" beta testing phase, someone found a sinkhole inside of a cave. Naturally, he explored it. While most of the terrain was identical to the sinkhole level, he did find a chamber full of insanity pillars and pig warriors!

Second guess? Alien technology. That would be mind-blowing, and I would be in eternal debt to the team. I love aliens. (I wrote a research paper on the Roswell Incident!) Also, it would add yet another level of "Oh man! This ecosystem the (DS) world has is just jam-packed with original epicness." factor. Plz Klei. ;-;

Speculate away!

If aliens I'd rather they were surface bound and randomly spawned at night in foggy graveyards, basically I think they should be the Flatwoods Monster, that would fit right in.Hmm, ruins, eh?Well I'm willing to bet that the batalisks will still be present, but with the batalisk inventory icon, what if the civilzation was able to domesticate them and we can learn how to do so following their footsteps? Also, what if artificial trees and other engineered (agriculture is a form of engineering) plants and animals? Being able to make pottery with the slurtle shells would make sense, and I genuinely hope that they add some really kickass high tier stuff thst requires crafting ingredients from multiple cave themes. As for more actual speculation... If pig civilization, then I'd perhaps expect staked bunnyman heads the same as the staked merm heads? I'd kill to be able to gether more bunny puffs without tearing down the subterrenean villages. Obviously one of the traps is going to be an indiana jones style boulder, that'd be an unforgiveable exclusion

Are you saying aliens are original?

Can't explain something? ALIENS!

Something is killing people. Either monsters or ALIENS!

Someone human has supernatural powers? Oh god! He was an alien in disguise!

Yeah.. no.

It gets old after a while.

I wonder if the unexpected inhabitants from the preview build will still be down there on the second cave level. Their presence felt a bit...placeholderish, along with some structures. If you have been down there you know what I'm talking about, if not click the spoiler tag for a screenie if you dare having a gander at them! :)

I'd honestly like it more if they had bunnymen warriors who were planning on taking on the surface world but had no access to it. You opening the sinkholes to the ruins makes that a possibility for them. Dusk bunnymen attacks would be pretty cool to me.

okay, that there is an underground temple with pig guards is strange.i think deeper is something prisoned, because maxwell said at the end of adventure mode something about ''they watch''also must be something over maxwell, possible it got prisoned from maxwell down there, but its too mighty.and i also think maxwell is something like a battery for this prisoned creature.

I am hoping there will be more additions to the insanity effect, since going insane in caves is easier due to the neverending darkness. And when talking ruins, maybe more Maxwell structures will be introduced. I really hope klei does not incorporate aliens. That would kill all the mystery for me :/

Don't Starve could make it work. @Ormia-Kazooie: Bats are one of my favorite aninals. If we could domesticate them, I would be happy as a clam which they should totally add by the way

I don't want aliens. I want debris from their ships and glitchy holograms. I want an uncraftable laser gun that explodes violently when exposed to sunlight on the surface. I want their bizarre tastes in art and architechture. I want black steel and purple light. I want teleporters and tractor beams....I'm kind of obsessed with the Roswell Incident. You'll... you'll get used to me. Eventually.

Some of that sounds a little fitting, but as soon as there is a hologram or laser.. Nah.

Hmm, I'm actually quite on board with stuff along those lines. Ancient alien tech and architecture at some point. It seems like it could fit if done with the same creativity Klei has shown so far. They do a great job of humanizing all the animals, hunting walrus, pigs, bunnies. I just love the spiders and hounds and beefaloes facial expressions. Well because they have great artists of course, we all know that. But also the ideas behind the designs really do kick major ass usually. They have a knack for putting fresh new twists on relatively old concepts (Were-pig and were-beaver).The way they hybrid creatures into each other makes for great results: Deerclops, Koalefant, Pengulls, Snurtles & Slurtles...Rock lobster are pretty cool too, hehe.Well don't let me derail the thread.Just saying it could be nice if done in that spirit and in the right measure. And I think we can trust Klei for that.

Oh come on, we have Scottish walruses that hunt with blowdarts. Like Yoko said, I want aliens with a Klei-level of originality.

Yes, but we don't have any form of energy (besides a useless lightning rod) yet, which gives this survival, uncivilized feeling.

Sure, Klei could do it. Klei can make everything fitting.
