Critter79
Okay, I'm having a seriously hard time catching fireflies. How are you guys doing it? I can't even get "catch" to show up over the glowing spots (that is where you catch them, right?).
Jetexx
Yeah, I'm not quite sure either.- - - Updated - - -Last time for me I exited and restarted, then it worked.

mobius187
You doing it at night? My guess would be no. He's probably just spotting them during the day, when they disappear on approach.Critter79, you need to hunt fireflies at night with a bug net. I suggest locating where they are during the day and then creating a camp fire near them at night. Then catch them.
Azpunty
Also, I've noticed that if you just walk up to them and try and casually catch them, even at night, they will run away. You kind of have to sneak up on them, or just sprint right up and swing bug net in hand.
LadyD
Wear the miner hat. Before you get to them click to catch them. Then you will run and catch in one go.
Kasiornis
Well, I'm using two Torches (for light) and Bug Net, then simply walk through the forest at night. When I'm spot the fireflies, I just changing Torch for Bug Net (right-click), quickly click at fireflies to catch them, then swithing back to Torch avoiding Boogieman darkness damage. LadyD
Here is a trick- You hold torch then you hover your bugnet OVER the fireflies. You then auto change.

501105
Keep in mind that they are limited though, you might want to be carefull before you catch all of them.
Chocolate Tree
When I decorated my camp, I normally got like 10 bugs/night.... and the way to do it is, as they said previously, set your camp around some fireflies and have a torch or 2.... it shouldn't be a problem....I probably have like 40 around my camp now... they are a very near light source. Critter79
I have been hunting them at night, with torches and a bug net. I try to keep a distance so they don't disappear, I've tried going in closer to bring up the "catch" command, but it's not even giving me the option.I've tried starting a new world and see if I have any better luck. I will try camping out in an area with them instead of just running around and see if that helps any.(And despite the funny name, I'm a girl.) LadyD
Sometimes it does take a few realignments and changes of angle to get the catch command up and running. Best to try and get the middle of the swarm.
Chocolate Tree
Once you click "catch" do no move or press anything else....let him get the bugs and then move him....http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/542944284591098552/7456E7E51AA8BA3D717A3EA3DA41935EB7158033/

Marak
Has anyone else found that Fireflies stored within a chest provide a little bit of light?Yeah, the chest glows very faintly green if it has Fireflies stored in it. I thought that was a very nice little touch, love the attention to detail.
Arrow Del
I tend to either use a torch to go find the fireflies, then walk within a few squares of them, switch to the net, scroll over the glow, the "catch" actually only shows up when your mouse is directly over a firefly it seems, then QUICKLY swap back to the torch as Soon as you've caught them. Repeat about twenty billion times....

A very cool detail for sure.
