If I had to name any singular gripe that grinds my gears, boils my blood, and doesn't butter my biscuits, it'd be this one grievance summed up in a single image.

There's been countless times where I've found myself unable to pick up items that are nearby the shore, like these twigs for example. Super, super frustrating. Doubly so if its an important item like a treasure bottle!

Shipwrecked doesn't have this problem at all, since in Shipwrecked they had a mechanic called "retrieve" which would let you drag in items near shore by playing a slightly longer pick up animation. This one change eliminated this persistent annoyance, and is something I've been dying to see added to DST ever since we got our own ocean.

And... that's it. That's the post. Just making a humble request to have this life savior of a mechanic brought to DST.

Please. I don't want to drop an entire boat to pick up a single twig, if there's even room to place one. (And the small grass boats disintegrate, creating more offshore litter!)

I've resorted to burning them with a fire staff sometimes, just because I got sick of looking at them.

That or sea fishing rod would hook those items and reel them in to get them like those muck piles.

Or add the Trawlers Net that’s existed in Unimplemented features since idk the beginning of life on earth? Seriously… I want More Tools & Craftables.

I can Refine Grass Tufts into Rope, so why on earth can’t I just make a Trawlers Net (a net you toss out into the ocean that is thrown over stuff out of reach and can be pulled back into shore)

I feel your pain, but I’m a bit confused, isn’t this what those weird names hats are designed to do? Polly Rogers or something like that..

Yeah, exactly. There are already items for retrieving items at sea (??). Plus at that distance the Lazy Forager does the job. I usually keep one at hand for collecting and harvesting kelp with the Shadow Reaper (fastest fillers in the game, hands down). Until I obtain said item flotsam does not cause any inconvenience anyway.

Polly Rodger is more suited for sailing by something like a bottle, and getting Polly to pick it up without stopping, or lots of dispersed items in the water like post ck fight.
also, Polly is SO much work! first, need to defeat a pirate raid captain, then find the X and gamble on getting the hat bp, then, get a yellow feather (the easiest part tbh but still a chore.) all of that, to get 1 item 1 centimeter too far away from shore.

Polly Rodgers is an obscene amount of work and effort for something you can do day 1 by pressing spacebar in SW/HAM.
Even needing ruins gear to retrieve items that simply drop a few inches too far from a mob dying near the shore shouldn't need any extra items or flare.

And I'm saying this as someone who LOVES using Polly. She's fantastic for actually grabbing far out items. Not stuff directly near the shore, since even then she prioritizes further items.

+1 on that. i'd actually touch sea rods if they had that utility

which is fair and fine..... once you get far enough along to make those items. until that point the problem persists.

as someone with ocd however i personally DO get stressed by this stuff to the point where sometimes i just eat a death so i can go haunt stuff that is out in the water since that first year i don't have access to anything else to retrieve it with. day one caves rush or spending my first season sailing on a grass boat instead of gathering resources just is not fun or reasonable to do every single time i start a new game or join a pub. having a way to take care of it early would be a GOOD thing and does not take away from other later-game methods it just allowed the player something to ease the pressure earlier on
