LET THE BATTLE TO DISCOVER THE MOST USELESS ITEM BEGIN!

Recommended Posts

The rules are as follows: State a useless item and the reason why it is the most useless of all. Other people must respond with a reason why it is not useless and present an item they consider even more useless. We will decide which is the worst item of all, hoping that Klei will give it a rework or buff.

I'll start with CAT CAP!

This wonder offers only 60 protection against the cold (the same as Rabbit Earmuffs) and is much more expensive to make.
Did I mention that it requires an Alchemy Engine?... Winter clothing is already quite bad in this game, and this is the worst among them.
Prove me wrong!

This isnt near useless. Useless items are actually useless, like WX small sainity circuit.

It has nice sanity regeneration. If you are not gonna wear a football helmet then you might as well wear this one.

The same sanity as the top hat and two silk cheaper. You can get the cat tail as a side effect of killing catcoons for meat.

Originally Klei had created different server styles that was meant to give players a vastly different playing experience from each other.

(Aka things that were intentionally set to NOT regrow on Survival Mode, WOULD Regrow on Endless Mode etc..)

But over the years, through pure neglect to actually tune up and make each of the games content updates fit into their respective modes in the way that they SHOULD be intended to function in those modes…

I’d say the most useless item in all of DST as of right now is even having these different mode options at all.

But that’s my biased (& to be completely honest a bit frustrated..) opinion.

I would say that fire darts are one of the most useless items, I have seen some uses for the other darts (even sleep darts which can be a "shitty" alternative for sleep mechanic if you dont have panflutes).

But fire darts? Low damage input that isnt even stackable, fire can be a dangerous mechanic for most players, and the fire staff is a much better alternative if you really were to use fire. The only use I can think off for fire darts are as a stun, but theres much better alternatives to that.

And correct me if im wrong but, from the time that I have tried Willow's skill tree (which wasnt much), I think not even she can make use of those, because its fire damage isn't treated as the same as torch/lighter, so you dont get any benefits from the perks.

Has anyone used the Mushroom Planter lately? I've subconsciously stopped using it.

The mushroom planter had a use case pre-rws as you can use mushrooms as filler, but after that update came out barely anyone uses it.

It's like i said in the other thread. Every item has a use especially for a creative player, so the contest of looking for a useless item in and of itself is uesless as people will immediately find even the most niche use with which to defend an item with

Would be so nice if you could scare them with the spray. I was using the mushroom planter to grind out many fights against the cc as wolfgang. The thing that deters me from using it altogether is how it rots during winter. It doesn't rot in the caves, however.

but yeah if i had to add something new from last time.... the seawreath. eating the kelp is a faster way to drop your sanity instantly. this stupid seeweed hat ain't gonna overpower a single lunacy aura. even if you're wurt this thing ain't even that significant. i might see an early game use for wurt but i can't see anyone noticing the difference, and there's likely better insanity auras or ways to lose sanity that i haven't mentioned.

..... just checked the wiki. wurt actually gets a positive sanity aura from this. so it's a garland on the ocean. and garlands are already really mediocre.

Is there any use for tillweed salves? You need 4 tillweeds to make one, they heal only 8 instantly + 20 health over a whole minute, and they literally rot over time. They take more time to amass than even poultices since if you want them in bulk you need a TON of tillweeds, and you would also need bundling wraps to prevent spoilage. Useless for bosses and even more useless for general healing since we have tents and pierogies. I don't remember the last time anyone has brought up this item, let alone crafted it.

If you were farming and happened to get 4 tillweeds and didn't have full HP, you can make a salve.

It's not really an item that you'd actively try to make, more like an item that you can make if you happen to get the ingredients because... Well, why not?

Kinda like the grass suit. You won't ever craft a grass suit, but it can be useful early game if you get it as a set piece. Just having this kind of niche use is enough, sometimes.

Outside of Wormwood, no. As Wormwood, all the time. Red Shrooms, Green Shrooms, Moon Shrooms, awesome.

Reading forums makes me feel like I'm playing the game wrong because I definitely use these in the caves for both sanity and health in a disposable format.

My inventory is usually cluttered in the caves so I have to do drop shenanigans to make an axe and chop trees and that's honestly time wasted all things considered. Having a big stack of green mushrooms to pump my sanity back up, and then have them regrow with little maintenence is great. Plus I never use the caves in winter so them not working in winter is not much of an issue either.

It's also great for making spore caps if I need to catch spores to refresh my mushlights.

There's probably a more efficient way to do all this but mushroom planters are pretty good imo.

Hey, don't worry about "playing the game wrong", there is no wrong. Have fun and do what you want. It is a sandbox adventure. The only wrong way to play is to starve. You are explicitly told not to do that.
