Once you can beat FW, even with horrible player performance,  lazy explorers become really cheap since orange gems are barely used

I use it a lot. From just going faster, to kite strong atacks that will hit me or when a group of enemies is about to stunlock me and, ofc, i use it constantly to travel throw gaps, 5% is nothing compared to saving 2 minutes of walking or to prevent losing durability from an armor and HP

The only change i would do is making it reach 0% acting like a walking cane because right now we have 1 use less and we have the risk of losing it by accident by missclicking

I've never used it before but for my modded Maxwell character I have given him an item for fun [I think it's going to be a cigar] that uses the blinkstaff component, just so he can teleport around while holding the item just like he would as NPC. Apart from that I have never been using the lazy explorer, and the item I made only for this mod it's only meant as a fun detail that I probably will barely use in-game [Maybe to jump over gaps]. I prefer walking around usually.

I never use it outside of FW because I don't use it regular play and the RMB prompt is annoying.

But that means that orange gems eventually pile up. So the above is probably the smarter play.

I get used to the prompt so until you said it i didn't remember it is showed at all times

Something i do is farming a lot of tusk to bring a lot of canes to the ruins so i come back to the surface to, eventually, fill atleast 1 scale chest with lazy explorer. When they are close to 5% i just pick up a fresh one. When some of them are low i decon and recraft them so i always have avaraible mobility

honestly just use it to go places faster by spamming it everywhere. Then I decon it when it's on 5%.

I wish they would let you charge it with nightmare fuel but that would be kinda op so I think a boss should drop that version

As long as I can get a walking cane in winter I run everywhere and to get a lazy explorer itself, I only use it for the speed boost if i lost/misplaced my cane, fuel weaver and if i play with someone else I give them a walking cane while I use the cane for the speed while being careful to not misclick wasting durability :wilson_dead: it happens more often than I want it too

I use it with a client mod that disables the teleports unless I activate them first.
Since I use that mod I teleport whenever I really need which is mostly FW and very rarely to escape something or reach a distant boat. If it wasn’t for the mod I’d spend about 80% of its durability missclicking.

nightmare fuel is too easy to get

supplementing the gem with another would be good

recharging with orange gems

I'm glad to see everyone talking about the lazy explorer.

I personally think if there were a method to recharge, it really should be similar to Wickerbottom's bookcase. Having a place to put it to recharge it slowly rather than recharge it on the fly.

That way, you only really take full advantage if you have a few in rotation.

If they end up addding a recharge mechanic i would prefer it being via orange gems, otherwise their value will drop drastically. Cleaning more than 1  ruins already only brings thulecite, orange gems and green gems as only benefit since the rest of resources stockpile without having enough uses

And now we have a tree that supports their acquisition

It's less that we don't have orange gems to make more of those but the issue is the risk of losing a walrus tusk which has enormous value when it comes to both getting to save time to get from one place to another.

I think the issue is that losing the cane itself is more unreasonable risk than having not enough charges, I could go anytime to the ruins and rebuild the staff for the sake of saving it but it's very uncomfortable to do so.

Orange gem value is not entirely the same as walrus tusk value, where a cane is built to be permanent and the lazy explorer exists for certain situational cases while charges exist.

I think the old mechanic is too old for current state of DST and the staff should break down into walking cane or at least gemless version of the staff till repaired back at the pseudo station as it's the only way we can build it back or recharge it's use somehow. It would be great if we get a tier 3 lazy explorer where horror fuel would take hold and it becoming a lot more lasting or have a way to recharge it. I like having a lot more skill expression and if we can teleport more or more often I think it would be a more fun item to have.

I think teleportation in this game is overrated. even if it's not a big deal. my suggestion would be that instead of durability, we have charges in a stack, and they would recharge over time, preventing us from abusing teleportation, but I doubt that this would make this item more attractive, orange gems are always left over due to lack of use , walking cane is not a "rare" item, especially in the long game, and even so it is rare for me to see someone using this item, I even avoid it on purpose because I end up teleporting by accident.

Honestly it's a pretty good idea of just having a cooldown per teleport instead of needing to rebuild it again and again and be risking to lose walrus tusks. Teleportation isn't a big deal when it comes to just casual survival things as there's many ways to deal with bosses and hounds anyways that now it mostly is useful to get over gaps or annoying obstructions than anything. While it is a finite resource right now to be mindful over, teleportation with cooldown would make the staff have some level of risk if doing it too often or improperly. I like the idea a lot and I would enjoy that staff for being a lot more permanent in cost of some time, as if it's a dodge ability with a cooldown. I mean, we got Wortox that can do it as many times and heal as much as he wants, we got Wanda with her watches and global travel, seems like making a lazy explorer a situational non spammy teleportation item would make it a lot more interesting to play with.

I wish it wouldn't kill the walking cane when it broke. At 0% it would be a lot cooler if it turned into a gemless explorer that you can refit a new orange gem into, or at least just broke into a walking cane instead of breaking into nothing.

I think I’ve only actually used this feature in the game ONCE.

I think with as many characters that are now getting crazy and compared to it “cheaper” teleportation powers, I think that it would see much more usage from me if it did not consume the purple gems socketed into it every time you use it.

Ive really only built it maybe three times, and when I did.. I did so purely for cosmetic base purposes:

But as you can see in the photo- Purple gems are simply to rare in the games current state to come by.. and I substituted in the image with Lanterns (salt lamp skin)

cosmetically it looks better (obviously) BUT… My point still remains.

Using it for actual Teleportation Compared to Winona, Wortox & Wanda is just far far too costly.

And I think things could be done to make it more Viable.

Such as the gem sockets being a one time requirement that stays powered permanently (but over charge and go on cooldown)

OR.. simply making hound waves and cave earthquakes drop gems more often.. etc.

As it stands now though: It’s far too expensive and in my opinion a waste of resources.

I would literally just rather bell bond and ride a Beefalo.

this isnt a very good poll, there isnt room for people who use it accidentality or people who use it to quickly tank sanity or to keep up with wandas and wortoxes x''D also i am not sure "yes/no" is the right options to a question that starts with "what would"

those gripes aside i basically only use the walking can crossing cave gaps or when my fingers accidentality twitch and i misclick X''D nothing better than doing 5 consecutive hops because you were trying to do something and your finger accidentality holds down the mouse button. i use walking canes for the same reason i stopped playing wortox

like others said i would be happy for a "broken" explorer that has to be refueled to teleport. it would be better to just keep a gem on-hand for that rare time i need to teleport than to have a stack of teleports that i might accidentally spam

I gotta use orange gems somewhere. Although an option to turn off Wortox and Lazy Explorer teleport prompts would be nice.

Wortox’s could be changed so the player has to be hovering over souls in their inventory and tap “use” like Willows Fire Powers.
