I don't understand why anyone would want to play a game like Don't Starve that is all about not knowing things with "show me everything" mod. It's just my opinion though, I'm glad people are having fun. I just don't understand it.

Oh, got it!

I guess it's just a different perspectives kind of thing?

To me Don't Starve isn't about not knowing things. I look up stuff in the wiki all the time and sometimes look at written guides or tutorial videos too.

To me Don't Starve is a fun survival experience where you have to deal with seasonal mechanics, seasonal bosses, stuff attacking you like Hound Waves and stuff, and then also trying to do more things by killing optional bosses and the like.

So, I guess we just get enjoyment from the game in different ways? To me the fun comes from the experience itself, not from the discovery aspect and figuring things out on my own.

Healthbars & infinite thermals are "the OGs"? Anyways, these are all the mods I use. The vast majority don't really affect the gameplay at all, and the few that do affect the gameplay do it in a way that isn't too obtrusive. The biggest impact I have is Geometric Placement lets me get 6 crock pots next to an icebox, which would be just about impossible without it.

Makes the game look/sound prettier for no real advantage: InventorySorter, Audio Deltas Enabler, Character Indicators, Combined Status (disable everything except numbers on the 3 stats you can already see), Craft Menu Tweak, Dreadstone Helm Reskin, Hide Stuff, Modular Color Cubes, Mute "crafting recipe is ready" (ding) sound, Post Processor Disabler, Rotate Character Model, Seasonal Farming Themes, Stat Change Display, Wardrobe Animation Disabler, WHERE IS BASE?, Wormwood Flowers Extender.

Multiplayer focused mods: ActionQueue RB2, Auto-Join, Chat Binds, Chat Shortcut Manager, Ground Chest, Keep Following, Rotating Compass, Status Announcements.

Actually quality of life instead of just randomly saying it for no reason: Advanced Controls (Doubleclick to teleport instead of single), Fast Cookpots (Ctrl+click to repeat last dish in crock pot, saves almost no actual time).

Minor advantage but I don't care: Boss Calendar, Craft Pot, Geometric Placement.

Misc: Accurate Skill Tree Descriptions, Drops Reset Countdown.

Server mods: Uncompromising Mode.

some people have more fun without removing the mechanics of the game

the point was that you'd need to search for it if you wanted to, you don't just get a "reveal map fully" button on the screen from the start, that isn't affecting newbies

that's a problem with them, i have no clue about how would they've got affected by that

Why would anyone play WX when a client mod gives you one of his strongest abilities?

There should be a reveal map button for the newbies. Its not fair that only more knowledgable DST players should benefit from this mod. Hence why im gonna make a general "how to cheat on Klei official server" guide for the newbies.

Yeah not many people have empathy these days, dont worry about it buddy.

they can already search for "night vision" and "zoom" to find them if they want to, you don't know about them only if you don't want to know about them

Thermal durability and epic health bar are all I use.

I just use qol for base building so geometric drop placment and muting annoying noises.

Just making sure just in case because surprising amount of people didn't know a certain thing.

Thermal stone can be repaired with sewing kit. Super unintuitive i know but you'd probably rather spend silk than rocks for more durability.

Also thermal can be cooled down by using watering can next to it. Can't do it directly so drop the stone near dry plants, any fire(Just set anything on fire), farm land. Remember to not release right click until it's cold, you need several uses of the can.

Simple solution would be to allow the server host to disable client mods if they want, so no one will join their game and they can play solo.

If you enter other public servers that's on you, I think you should just play another game if you want players to be forced not to use QoL mods...it's getting harder though, a lot of MMO's already allow and endorse "cheat level" QoL and info mods to the point no one's going to invite you to parties if you don't use them.

yeah, i really didn't know what else to label them. i just kinda assumed they were the OGs 'cuz every server my friends created a long while back had these mods 100% of the time (also 'cuz a bunch of pubs i checked and played on had these mods enabled frequently)

While we're at it I'd love rework for insulation and summer protection so it can compete with thermal stone. Perhaps allowing vests and shirts with backpack together at once would be enough.

a few years back, i decided to disable a big portion of my mods and go 2014-RoG-style, and ever since then i've just kinda never switched back. so i wondered how many people mod their game by what amount

yea

I did exactly the same. Playing without mods is a breath of reeeally high quality fresh air. It changes your perspective.

It's honestly sad that the majority don't enjoy the game the way it should be enjoyed. But that's life, you create something and people wanna do it their way.

I prefer being "delusional" and not face this reality than believe I'm truly being left behind or being made an idiot because this mod exists. (Analogy here) I prefer to believe in a world where everyone has great intentions rather than face reality facts. Basically, I am the one who makes my own world. And I prefer to respect the devs intention and way to play the game rather than force my ways into it or "get advantage of these mistakes", as downloading and using these cheats. That's my reasoning for not using this mod.

I would love an option that requires no client side mods to enter a world.

Bro sounds like a super villain

I kinda wish there was more "gamemode" mods that change the game to a totally different purpose and goal. Most notable I can think of is Cavemen, it's worth giving it a go with a few friends every now and then ^^ (there's are remakes of this mod for a less grindy experience but I find them way too tuned on the easy side, I prefer to use a custom version).
So yeah there's not many of these, and frankly I'd consider making a few if I had more time.

Otherwise I will always use a small selection of content mods outside of mines if I think they're neat, and I have a heavily modded client that brings a lot of QoL and control over the UI.

For the longest of times i used these:

  1. Gesture wheel
  2. Status announcement
  3. Show nicknames
  4. Geometric placement
  5. Snapping tills
  6. Combined status (kinda cheaty)
  7. Minimap HUD (pretty cheaty)
  8. Observer Camera (very cheaty, but also i kinda hate exploration without it - it saves so much time searching for setpieces, biomes and resources)

-------------------------------------------------------------

Recently I finally gave in and installed these:

  1. Rain predictor (very cheaty, but good for rushing Pearl in autumn)
  2. Domestication calculator (a little cheaty, but good QoL)
  3. Environment pinger (very cheaty, but i felt like an annoying piece of **** when asking for describing a way to get to places on public servers)

-------------------------------------------------------------

I would never go for client mods like nightvision, that's an extremely cheaty mod (the minimap serves for the night exploration without seeing enemies in the dark).

-------------------------------------------------------------

I hate all server mods that are trying to make the game easier basically. I would join friend's server with Global Positions or Healthbar mods or even Campfire revive, but another body slot, bigger stack sizes or bigger chests or any character mods and better structure mods are a no-go for me.

I haven't played any mods that change the game too much like Uncompromising mod or Hamlet / Shipwrecked experience. Though i can imagine giving these a try in the future (If I feel like they are well balanced).

Oh and... a complete overhaul of the game's worldgen because I really dislike vanilla worlds. And I'm so used to my changes I tend to forget how it really is without... not great.
I don't really address the content of biomes, or randomness but more the size and split of things for more comfort exploring with less unpractical areas in the middle, or large, or awful cuts in the caves.

Oh, I love the minimap mod too. It's very convenient. I really enjoy it.

Just curious, but why do you dislike character mods?

Like, I get that there are some ridiculously OP character mods (I tried some of those out before. They weren't fun), but there are some more balanced character mods in the game that can be as fun to play with as the official in-game characters, so... Just curious, I guess? Why the blanket ban on character mods?

Genuinely would like to know as well.. Wirra/Wildcard/WelinaWhisky/Reign of runts(Without skill trees because that broke them way to much) are pretty cool characters that ain't more or so strong compared to the rest of the base cast.

My most controversial mods are ones that mainly for the purpose of megabasing, with some minor exceptions.

I use:

pining for the fjords: Keeps birds from starving in cages. I want decorative birds.

Infinite durability red lanterns: they look nice and I already have infinite light by the time I get these.

Infinite salt lick: the salt lick hammering/rebuilding loop is very boring to me.

Vines don’t push objects: should go without saying.

I tend to use backpack slot a lot where I can, i just like the leniency

Every few games I turn on feast and famine or uncompromising mode just to spice things up a bit although with a fair few unfun things turned off in the latter case lol
