I tend to use backpack slot a lot where I can, i just like the leniency

Every few games I turn on feast and famine or uncompromising mode just to spice things up a bit although with a fair few unfun things turned off in the latter case lol

Does feast and famine even work anymore? I thought it hasn't been updated sense pre-RWYS.

Also can you elaborate on the unfair thing? The discord can be an echo chamber at times to external feedback is always handy.

IDR if I use a fan patch or something, but it definitely works in the modern day, thankfully. But... I don't think radishes are in, anymore. sadly.

I think my feedback isn't gonna be great, my thoughts aren't really organized and I really don't think I'm the target audience for the mod. Most of the changes that I disagree with are just, that. I just think that most of the character changes made just end up sort of weirdly limiting the characters and I find most changes in this respect unfun for that reason (although, winona is a huge exception to this! I love everything they did with her, AAAHHH!! I wish the hunger perk was as impactful in vanilla  as it is in uncomp!!) Aside from that, I think I'm just not really used to the sort of "Gotcha" or otherwise features that exist purely to keep the player on their toes at all times, I kind of never have a moment to relax or think in uncompromising mode, which is preferable for some, but I am the type to use tents and happily use my phone for a moment while I catch a breather. Theres this one moment I had where like, in the caves, in a tunnel, I stopped for literally like a second and then instantaneously I was killed by some mobs I didnt see at all called vipers that took out pretty all my health in a moment. I would liken it to Spelunky's Ice Caves or Neo Babylon in Spelunky 2 where if you stand still for too long theres a good chance you just get blown up. You just kind of have to know X thing is coming so you know to never be calm in Y area.

hahaha Idk, again, I really think its just a mod i conflict with on a particular level that makes my feedback placed at odds with where I think the mod devs want to take the game. so my feedback might stink a bit in that way and feel free to not listen to it at all lol

Fan Patch? I'll have to look for that.

As for your feedback. It was certainly disorganized. But still helpful.

The character change gripes I do understand. Most of the nerfs are fairly minor, though the Walter and Wortox reworks are very controversial even in the mod's circles. But also they're stuck in development limbo right now because of the skill tree updates. They both have problems that need addressed and everyone knows this. We're just waiting for Klei to do that first.

On that note though, if you like the Winona rework, have you tried the WX rework yet? They need to actively maintain their charge, but you get more circuit slots and most of the circuits are buffed. That combined with Circuits draining durability over time instead of whenever you unequip them puts a much greater emphasis on power management and build variety instead of just plugging in 3 speed circuits and calling it a day. There's also a Wolfgang Rework that'll prooooobably release within the next few months that's really fun. Which is really impressive when you consider just how boring Vanilla Wolfgang is.

Otherwise, Uncompromising Mode isn't quite that tight on the draw. Trust me, I do enough meandering myself to say that there is plenty of breathing room. Also sleeping is actually buffed in UM, so popping into a tent and checking your phone for a few seconds is encouraged.

And finally on the matter of Depths Vipers, those are actually a Depths Worm varient that has the ability to summon shadow copies of itself. Meaning you just chose a very unfortunate time to stop paying attention for 5 seconds without any armor on. Happens to the best of us.

Clients mods should be disabled on klei public servers by default.

Is that even possible? I know a few servers that tried to do this, but a guy who isn't even all that good at coding always breaks those for his amusement.

See this is a core problem. Not everyone knows about this client mod which gives you the full map and wx78's night vision. So i might as well share it here, no point gatekeeping the fun is there grm9? :wilsoalmostangelic:

No point playing wx when you can just install the mod above. Works on all servers as its client-side. Ty to the chinese modster who made it.

Heres pics of the mod in action on a Klei Official Server...

A lot of people just want to play a vanilla game (maybe with a few qol mods) without people with legal nightvision cheats running around. They want a fair and fun experience.

You can disable all client mods. But you can't choose specific ones.

If Klei themselves are the ones doing it, then it's probably possible, since they have access to way more tools than the end user have.

I don't think it's possible to disable other people from using client mods as an end user though.

Klei should probably make it a world option then for people who don't want client mods on their servers.

Not too many mods:
Client:

Geometric Placement
Gesture Wheel

Nightmare Hud

Bone Armor Cooldown Visualization
Autoclose Enlightened Crown

Pickup Filters

Rotate Character Model

Show Range

Wormwood Flower Extender

Server:

don't Starve Alone

Boss Health Bars

Inspect Bundle

Brighter Enlightened Crown

No Grounded Snow

well, since some people are sharing what mods they use, why not share my setup as well!

for client-side, the only really noticeable ones are seasonal farming themes ;), wormhole markers, geometric placement, action queue (mainly used for picking up items, honestly, especially when i play with friends. 150+ ping is no joke), crockpot repeater and craft pot

the other ones are mainly cosmetic (redux hud, fabin's curly cursor ;), gesture wheel, rotate character model, and skin queue)

now for server-side, i don't really use mods when doing solo, but i've grown to like epic health bars. it's nice to have for some runs, but i mainly prefer it off

i've also been enjoying uncompromising mode quite a bit. i especially like what they did with spring and summer (except dragonfly though, obviously). felt like i was playing RoG for the first time again with all the stuff they added in. i turn the rats down though, they're quite the chore to constantly keep away

i've also tried and enjoyed heap of foods too, it breathes some extra life into the world with all the plants and crops you can harvest. and also the islands too! they're quite nice to explore
