you cannot talk about speedrunning on the forums as it is a banned topic

Glitches, speedruns and anime character mods are the obvious way to enjoy a sandbox game.

Spoiler

Here are a few nice, often overlooked and hopefully less controversial runs:

TLDR.: because it was answered.

you cannot use console commands in a speedrun, as it is defined by the mods of that leaderboard.

that dude that caused you to have such a question did that in a "first" of its kind category, now the community can say whether or not to accept this as a legit run. I don't think that it should, as I also believe that it didn't get a place in that leaderboard. But I think that it is being a bit overblown. You know, I currently place it together with the ones that you spawn a slurper and try to survive without a helmet slot.

Also, this answers this thread, please lock it up before a war begins.

Nah thats pointless and annoying.

Its inconstructive and doesnt give people a chance to respond.

It was obvious that you made that thread just because of Guille and If you cared about speedruns you'd check If it was listed

Yes, it was a question inspired by that post. I didn't think about it until yesterday something else happened. So I decided to give a brainstorm.

Where is the list? I've never heard of it. Can you share a source? Thanks.

Also, do you know any source for the list of banned topics? I didn't know such thing existed.

Also @GamePlayer42 @Valase @Guille6785 if any of you can share a source.

I agree with that!

Well, I actually play with a Touhou character mod instead of an anime character mod, but... Well, there are fanmade animes of Touhou, so it's close enough to me! ^^)/

The idea of a speedrun is that you make up a category and try to do it. You can make anything into a speedrun if you wish to and have fun with it, if it picks up a trend then it becomes one. Thus, if rules are set and things you are allowed to do or have conditions to do something to use console commands for - it's legit and fine, despite if we like that or not.

It's not in our saying what should and shouldn't be in a speedrun, as speedrun itself isn't consistent for what we would call one. It's just to have fun and make up a challenge.

I think that this one was a joke from @GamePlayer42.

but there are the guidelines:

https://forums.kleientertainment.com/guidelines

So according to this guideline, why was my post closed? Sorry I still don't get it. I know you are not moderator. I'm just very confused.

Seems to be you made a thread in bad faith. Given the way your thread was structured there isn't room for a conversation to be had your mind was a already made up with your several "that's a no".

In which case you made a potential inflammatory thread only meant to instigate none constructive arguments. There is a slightly hidden rule where a thread will be closed when everyone has exhausted any new points to the conversation. It seems to be you pretty much did that with your opening statement.

If you don't want conversations to appear to have been made in bad faith I'd consider not making it seemed like you're not open to changing your mind or something idk. Without asking mods I'm not 100%.

Probably because klei smelled how salty you are at Guille, and I frankly don't understand what you are so freaking upset about. What's with these high standarts? Oh, was the hardest run even done not impressive enough for you? Should he have restarted his hour long NO HIT world just because a funny stick didn't drop? Should he have beaten this challenge without orange staff like an extreme master would?

Have you even finished the video, or did you rage quit it after the minotaur fight? I'd love to see you try and do this run (or at least fuelweaver or shadow chess part) without orange staff. Couldn't be that hard.

Seriously tho, do you think he made the rules up randomly and for lolz in about 5 minutes, and then did his little run first try? I'm pretty sure he thought them throughly and discussed with people who's opinion has weight. Giving feedback on what should and shouldn't be allowed now, while also being a casual player is simply ridiculous.

Does it really come off like that? I said a no in the beginning so that people who don't want to read it can scan through my post with such an impression. I assume in internet world, everyone is too busy and has a short attention span, and I wrote an unforgivingly long analysis. I thought I was providing readers convenience by adding a "no" upfront. I literally added it there for that purpose.

And to clarify, not to you, but to the point that I was closed minded, I was not. And I do want some opposite opinions. The fact that I laid out my thought process means that I hope it can be examined by anyone who's interested. I didn't hide anything. It was a genuine post. And I was surprised, confused and saddened by its close. I was really hoping to get some dialogue or discussion.

Anyways. Thanks for your input. (I would also appreciate if you or anyone can give me some advice on how to improve or fix my tone assuming there is always room for improvement and I want to learn from mistakes.)

Sorry, I don't understand why it came off as a personal attack or salty. Most of the things I discussed wasn't even related to Guille's recent video. It was inspired by it, true. But it was a lot more.

For the record, I think people will be interested in my impression of Guille, because that'll obviously clarify a lot of things. First and foremost, the recent video was an impressive run. Very impressive indeed. Skills, plans, executions, consistency, reaction, all there. I admire his skills and execution and effort.

But ... I didn't rage quit. I didn't have rage against it or him. I'm frankly not interested in speedrun. My post was not about his video. I had no intention to attack him or write about him. It was purely a philosophical analysis. That's the question I'm interested, that is: should console commands be (theorically) be allowed, in my ethical analysis. It was totally open for debate. That's why I used the word "opinion". I said, "my opinion was no" explicitly and intentionally.

I had considered not mentioning him or orange staff at all. But it would be self-deceptive if I claim my post had nothing to do with that because anyone who read the forum would connect it. So I chose to mention it but not give it a lot of attention. And I can't give it a lot of attention, because my post wasn't about that.

To be honest, if you remove your memory of Guille's recent video from my post, it would still be a good analysis, "good" in my opinion. And the points still stand.

This attack I will not take. I don't need to be good at chess to point out someone cheated chess, if I play along with your suggestive implication. And I didn't try to make the point that he cheated the run. If I did, you should look at my reasoning and say they are bad rather than use my lesser skills to disqualify my arguments.

I don’t care about the speed runners debate, I’m only here to answer your original topic question. Your thread most likely became locked because you made rude or targeted posts towards other players. On the internet it’s extremely hard to tell someone’s tone that they intend when what they type is just words & that is largely where a lot of the fuss & confusion comes from simply try to keep your posts polite, on topic & constructive to whatever your topic is about & Im sure it won’t get locked.

However I do have to question some of the OTHER threads that end up locked when heated debates and arguments have not broke out in those topics, such as for example threads asking if crab king needs a rework.

My answer to that question is Yes, he does need a Rework, but I’d make it so that the player needed to focus on taking out all his pincher claws first, before moving in for the kill on the now mostly helpless crab. If a game like Clone Drone in the Danger Zone can have dynamic Spider-Tron enemies where the goal is to chop off all its legs, and THEN finish it off… then CK should too.

AND if I could completely destroy the claw arms then I would welcome things like them being able to slap bees out of the air to make the bee mine strategy less effective, because I could then KILL the Claws, so they do not respawn- and he can no longer swat the bees out the air, or use his arms for healing himself.

See what I mean??? Conversations like these need to happen to make the games big and bad raid bosses more dynamic and fun and engaging beyond just “Build grass raft and paddle round in circles while bees sting it to death”

I know I don’t work at Klei and I have no rights to say how they should or shouldn’t run their forums or operate their games, but… conversations like “does crab king need a rework, & should we remove bee mine cheese?” NEED to happen so that if Klei actually has any plans to revist and improve old areas of content- They can use those posts as inspiration to come with a cool new improvement.

Klei added the slipping on penguin ponds mechanic after players experienced it in the shark bosses fight, and that wouldn’t have ever been suggested- Without proper feedback.

just uhm try to keep it polite & nice, I’m sure Mr JoeW would appreciate that. :) K Bye.

Because you pointed that moment out in reply to Guille's post, calling him out basically, then made your own rant post about it, and then made another one about the previous one. And all this despite the fact that:

It was not a rant. It was a calm discussion around a very specific top and that topic only. It was not to flame anybody. You called it "brainstorm analysis" and also called it "rant", then you are contradicting yourself. I said "inspired by" it as in that post started to give me that idea. The final product of that inspiration evolved into something completely different. In this case, it was my analysis.

What's the point of my interests? Well, it's my point of interests. If it's not yours coincidentally, please allow me to enjoy my own point of interests. I'm showing my disinterest in speedrun to show that my analysis is not affected by any passion about it, hoping to show it was from an indifferent third party.

In your tone, you sound like you are angry at me or offended by me or something. Please don't be angry at me or offended by me if you are, I don't want to make you angry or offend you.

Thanks! Good to know.

I got a warning for saying 'He is my favourite fiction' - can this be explained? Would it have been better if I put 'someone is potentially someone elses potential favourite type of literature genre'?

Would that be ok? Or should the moderators get a bit real with themselves? :D

To be frank the moderation is vague and non-descript, you probably just irritated someone and they've treated you unfairly as a result

I'm sorry it happened to you. But thank you for sharing your story. It makes me feel better.
