Who do you think the next skilltrees are?

Recommended Posts

I'm personally hoping for Walter, Willow, and Warly, and that does fit with the campfire theory people had a while back based on the last trio of skill trees. Walter and Willow desperately need something (Willow has no niche and Walter's just a mess), and all three of them have unique interactions with fire. I'm just hoping that whenever Warly gets his skill tree, they don't do anything to reduce or negate his downside since it's one of the reasons he's interesting to play.

My prediction is Winona, WX and Wanda. Wanda was already mentioned by Klei specifically along with wolfgang as characters who'd be getting tools to compensate for planar nerfing them otherwise, while WX and Winona will probably get perks that relate to W.A.R.B.I.S given their expertise in machinery, and ties to Wagstaff. I could also see Wanda gaining something for W.A.R.B.I.S since it seems to use gear mechanisms, but who knows. I don't think any of them will be allignment locked though.

oooh, so assuming all the skill trees follow the "survival guide" setup, the last three survivors gathered the firewood, so now we see how the next three work with fire... that'd be really cool! i wonder what's next then, interactions with the food cooked by the fire? maybe wurt, wigfrid, and wx with their unique diets come next.

I was honestly hoping for Willow, Winona, and Walter. They are the three weakest links who don't bring much to the table

Willow with the only follower that can attack shadow creatures.

Winona with the most powerful craftable in the game

And Walter with the best early game perks in the game before you get access to the celestial portal and become all characters.

I fail to see how these characters are the weakest links lol

I'm hoping that Warly, Walter and Willow will have the next skill trees. Part of me wants Webber to switch with Willow but due to her character being nothing but a firestarter to everything and every base she encounters, it'd definitely be interesting how they'll implement a new tactic to her playstyle.

I'm most excited about Warly since there are some really good ideas of implementing a "chef" into the constant and how that'll affect and benefit his playstyle. (pls make Warly have the skill to cut ingredients into little chunks of food for crockpot dishes pls I'm begging you)

I heard a rumour that klei said last stream it was WX, Walter and Wurt. Though no confirmation i am not checking the whole stream for that.

I just finished watched the entire stream for the release of the Host of Horrors update and they did not confirm or hint as to what the next 3 characters to get skill trees will be.

this is what i fear the most. Warly is one of my favourite characters and i hope klei dont ruin his downside like they did with woodie's idols main downsides

for food interaction only needs longer food buffs on him, Wilson's chopping meat perk and new dishes and spices

they already ruined some character's downsides during the refresh like wendy's damage downside or by adding exceptions like wigfrid being able to eat taffy and mushcake. There is no need to ruin more downsides when they are already buffing every character

Warly, Willow, Walter is a cool idea; I like it.

If I had to make more thematic groups I would do-

Wendy, Maxwell, Winona: Team "family ties"

Maxwell and Wendy sharing tea; and Charlie comes up in conversation, prompting Winona to join.

Wurt, Webber, Wortox: Team "one with nature"

Wortox shows Webber and Wurt a hidden grotto in the constant. Taking them away from a section of the constant that had been fully civilized by the survivors.

Wx-78, Wigfrid, Wes: Team "to be or not to be (insane)"

A play where Wx-78 is all to happy to play the role of villain, Wigfrid the knight, and Wes the damsel in distress.

Wanda, Wicker: Team "forbidden knowledge"

Wicker and Wanda co-writing a book about time anomalies together.

I agree mostly with general pairings, but I'd change things around a bit:

  • Wendy, Maxwell & Wanda: All three use shadow magic for their personal abilities, but Maxwell embraces the darkness, Wanda fears it and Wendy is indifferent to it
  • Wurt & Webber: I doubt they'll give skill trees to two paid survivors at once, but the general theme still stands
  • Wicker, Wortox & Winona: Wickerbottom and Wortox are two of the most familiar with the nature of the constant, and with how Winona is trying to save her sister, she'd be more than willing to learn.

Who would you say are the weakest links (excluding Wes). Also what is the best early game perk? Walter is doo doo, fun, but doo doo

Only issues I have with this:

1. I don't think Wanda would get along with Maxwell. His ego and lack of caution for shadow magic would probably rub her the wrong way. And Winona would slap Maxwell for putting his sister in danger but then find the strength to forgive him. It's also a bit of closure I'd like to see as we don't see the two interact. Also seeing how Maxwell cares for his niece (Wendy) may help Winona see he's not so cold.

2. Wortox is more of a peter pan to me, like a carefree mischievous kid. I'm not sure he would get along with adults. Especially since he teases them with information that would essentially solve big mysteries the adults have been racking their brains to solve.

I also like that in this grouping Winona would get a lot more attention (hopefully) since Wendy and Maxwell don't really need skill trees.

Wanda and Wicker don't either so they could go last.

Y'know what fair enough. I think either setup of pairings would work (also, agree about Winona getting most focus on her skill tree) .

That said I do think it's inevitable that one of the "survival guide" shorts gets hijacked by lore so Winona would probably be a better pairing with maxwell and Wendy than Wanda in that case.

Personally I'm hoping for Willow, Winona, and Wortox. All three are characters I'd like to play but really feel lack the appeal for a long run.

As for what I believe is actually going to happen? I don't think it's a coincidence the release trailer for Host of Horrors had 3 characters represented like we just had with Wolfgang, Wormwood, and Woody. So I'd bet it's Wendy, Wx, and Wes. Though doing Wes so early seems unlikely...maybe it's misdirection. Wendy feels like an almost certainty though given her and Abigail's prominence on the update screen.

I'd think it'd be the exact opposite tbh. Characters almost never get featured twice in a row. Host of Horrors would be the equivalant to terrors below, not the skill spotlight trailer, which featured Wickerbottom, Winona and Maxwell.

I think Willow, Warly and Walter feel like locks considering just how long it's been since they were last featured primarily in a trailer.

Walter hasn't appeared since Waterlogged, Willow since Eye for an Eye and Warly as far back as Reap what you sow.

The last set hadn't appeared prominently since Eye of the storm (Woodie) Reap what you Sow (Wormwood) and The Incredible Strongman (Wolfgang).

Which doesn't save much time at all in long-term because you won't be needing much nightmare fuel and you'll have shanter and enlightened crown to stay sane after first autumn and in short-term other characters still save much more time with their perks and some simply do bernie's job better, e.g. wolfgang can three-shot both types of nightmares with ham bat and lunar perks without requiring sewing kits for bernie or randomly not getting sanity because bernie dealt the killing blow or having to stay away from any other enemies when fighting nightmares to not cause bernie to reaggro on those and die.

By the time you setup the catapults you could've killed that specific boss twice or thrice already as any other character and by the point you'll be setting up boss farms you'll be able to swap to winona, build them and swap back, leaving it almost pointless to play as winona.

Willow, Winona... and uh, Walter, maybe.

As much as I don't like skill trees, I don't like seeing Willow and Winona being left behind.
I'd quite frankly want them to get actual changes to their characters outside of skills first, but if this is how they get love, so be it.

I just don't see the link for this.... There's no link between them.

Last time, both Woodie and Wolfgang were the "physically strong" archetype which wormwood rounded out with woody to focus on firewood.

I don't see a link for this group
