Truffle
It shouldn't take 160 days and it should just take a year(75). 160 days is the equivalent to 21 hours and that's just for 1 character to max out. Multiple characters will take forever and if your on console like me you can't just type in a command and skip the process Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/150037-skill-trees-take-too-long-to-max-out/ Share on other sites

Popian
If each point contributed to a linear type of power increase that trivializes earlier linear content, time gating to prevent relying on such a crutch would make more sense. I don't see why it is necessary to have players learn how the characters play without their skill tree when there are transferable things to learn by picking a different character. Having it as a reward is okay, but it seems a bit on the long side considering how many characters there are. Masked Koopa
In my opinion it would be good if killing a boss you have not yet killed as that character would grant you an insight point, but keep the current passive gain as well. That way new players will be more incentivised to take on bosses without being forced to, while experienced players will be able to breeze through each character's skill tree. (Note that when I say boss I mean giants, so that includes lord of the fruit flies, spider queen, treeguard, and poison birchnut.) Currently there are only 4 characters with skill trees, and since I’ve already got all 15 of Wilson’s points I’m done with his. Im now working on Wolfgang’s. If Klei continues to release these in batches, you wouldn’t have 20+ characters to gain them for, because by the time a new batch came out, you’d be done with the previous. But most video games (particularly RPGs) are all about the “Grind” I suppose because I play games like Injustice 2 where I had a massive cast of characters I need to level up individually that it isn’t such a big deal to me to have to do it in DST. Im currently DONE with Wilson’s & Halfway done with Wolfgang, I’ll move to Woodie afterwards. Its still alot of time to ask for somebody. I don't exactly want to play 2 years and a half for each character. When there isn't anything new to do for that time. For a new player it's better because they have new experiences but I already did everything and forcing myself to sit through a long time just to get skills. So do you expect us to max the skill trees of every character with the current boring system, just to "keep it up" with the content? What about new people that comes after all the skill trees are added? Maxil20
I haven't really had an issue unlocking the skills I needed from my time with Woodie/Wormwood. Most of the perks I needed only needed ~7-8 skill points, and you get your first skill points much quicker than the later ones (In particular, getting the first 8 points takes 69 days, just shy of a year). I personally like taking my time to get the skill points. I usually like focusing on projects, so points after the first 8 are just fun little bonuses. It also makes me much more incentivized to try out other characters then just sit on one I completely maxed out and never try any of the other characters. Of course, that's how I feel about the skills, and I totally understand if that's not something people like too much. The only ones I don't really like are the alignment ones, since those (except for Wormwood and also Wolf?) take 12/15 skills to even have the choice to unlock, and that's not fun. I would personally wish they were unlocked earlier (or just outright didn't have skill locks) so you didn't have to wait, at minimum, 130 days to choose a perk from those sides. If you do decide to play a character then time will pass anyway. You don't have to wait 150 in-game days before you can start actually playing the game And if your problem is that you want to start the game and have all perks unlocked day 1 then that is indeed a you problem. You can't have the cake and eat it too, at least not for the first world you make once your character gets a skill tree Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/150037-skill-trees-take-too-long-to-max-out/#findComment-1656084 Share on other sites

I have played with a lot of characters for dozens of hours. Yeah, I want the thing that spices it up. I can have my cake, and suggest if I can eat it a little faster. I don't think they need to remove the time altogether. But there could be ways to make it more interactive as others have suggested. High-end goals that shorten the time. If skills are at the end of "invisible" achievements that give a sense of satisfaction, it can only be a win-win. chirsg
It shouldn't be a time based event. I've always said that the perks for the characters are PERFECTLY powered for the end game. There should seriously be a quota of what gives you perk points rather than time. Brago-sama
Me, who really only mains 2 characters and dabbles in random 3rds wont really be affected by the time, but I wouldnt mind if they changed the skill point requierments for the betterment of others. Its whatever tho, even on console I see people have "come grind insight and chill" rooms where they set everything to non-lethal, make day last ... all day and just afk. I should probably take note and leave my ps5 on all night for wolfgang and woody Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/150037-skill-trees-take-too-long-to-max-out/#findComment-1656096 Share on other sites

I should probably take note and leave my ps5 on all night for wolfgang and woody I’ve just been joining random players servers and surviving for a bit before joining another, I would get bored out my mind waiting the full 160 days in the same world- so joining “fresh starts” and leaving behind a surprise entire base I’ve built with my skins for noobs to maybe find later has been a fun distraction. Remember your progress isn’t currently tied to one world or one player save, so you can Wolfgang in 20 different rooms and still get those points up overtime.
