Now that there's Nitre Formations on Ponds...

Recommended Posts

Going trough the beta additions, you might have come across the Acid Rain and this interaction with the cave Ponds that grows Nitre formations, the ponds can be mined after a little while to obtain some Nitre, and free the access for Fishing or filling Watering Cans.

Now you might see where this is leading us: I was kind of expecting that we could now mine standard frozen ponds in winter to replicate that effect, and get some Ice in the process (which doesn't have lots of obtention sources). Sadly none of this is present and they're still unbreakable.

So... how about allowing temp unfreezing of Ponds ? That has been a fairly popular feature done by mods I'd gladly see added.

I don't know, Freshwater Fish in a season with less sources of food sounds like something that would change something about basic survival.

True, and that kind of sounds good to me ! I always saw Winter as a hunting season if beginners haven’t made enough food stock on the rest, with Rabbits being here still with every other animals, Pengulls coming out alongside Walrus or special Koalefant tracks, fresh fish with the use of knowing your tools abilities (honestly I think we all tried once to mine these ponds…) would be good on the menu too. But yeah I'd kinda like this especially for some more nice ice.

Fishing Rod means Silk, Silk means Spiders. Spiders means Monster Meat. Monster Meat means Eggs.
Aka, if you're killing spiders you have the means for food anyway. I don't see adding fish turning anything on its head crazy like.

Heck, add the scrapped Brrrd enemy or something that'll harass players near open winter ponds. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'd say a better compromise would be to let us mine the frozen lakes for ice but make it so that under it is just a deeper layer of ice that's too low to mine. In this scenario we still wouldn't be able to interact with the pond in other ways and that way we're getting more sources of ice while not taking away from the seasonal mechanic.

Not a fan of this I get that in the grand scheme of things it would be a trivial change but ponds being inaccessible is part of the flavor of winter in my opinion at least.

Do you mean something like this?

The ability to break the frozen growths, but not to destroy the frozen pond itself

Such ice growths really make sense, for example, unusual ice growths are often found on Lake Baikal
