[Suggestion] Let players choose to start with 10 Accursed Trinkets upon joining a new world.

Recommended Posts

I love Wonkey, and I love that Wonkey is available to customize after you were cursed for the first time, though I wish there were an option to start as Wonkey in some fashion and not have to purposely seek out the Accursed Trinkets just to play as them. It'd be pretty awesome if the player, after having unlocked Wonkey at one previous point on their account, could choose to start with 10 Accursed Trinkets in their inventory regardless of the character they choose. Would be a nice QoL addition for players that want to go ape.

Perhaps a check-box on the character select screen with something in text like this?:

                                                    Embrace the Monkey Queen's gift?

Not very fitting if you ask me.

It really seems like the community wants even MORE characters in the game. Klei I hope you're taking notes *cough cough* wheeler *cough cough* wagstaff

Wheeler's role is more or less already filled and if Wx's quotes are anything to go by Wilson may eventually fill Wagstaffs role.

And Wonkey "role" is filled by many different characters. Yet this thread exists. Meta meta meta meta

Wonkey's role is to be a punishment this isn't filled by other characters.

You're right there's no other characters that are supposed to be a punishment! Ah silly me! DST really needs a character that has the "punishment role". :)

it doesn't which is why it's not a "character"

doesnt sounds like a good idea

imagine you, a new player, seeing button that says "Start as wonkey (10 trinkets)" how are they gonna understand that

OP stated that it would be avalible after the player had previously played as Wonkey.

I don't see why not. While it is a "curse", it's still essentially a character since it isn't just downsides. If someone wants to start as a curse version of a character, I don't see why they shouldn't have the option.

If people think that there should be drawbacks since it is a curse after all, then consider the fact that you can't actually become uncursed via character swapping and are stuck on Wonkey until the curse is lifted the natural way.

This concept would only be available after you've turned into Wonkey at least once before and have them unlocked in the curio.

Wes?

Wes is a challenge character, not a punishment character.

Wes is meant to be an option for people who want a challenge, while Wonkey is a punishment for doing something you ?aren't? supposed to.

I would absolutely love it if Instead, Wonkey became the first unlockable character from doing something within the game itself- all previous DST dlc characters could be woven with spools…

but in DS to unlock Wes you needed to reach chapter 3 of adventures mode and luck up on rescuing him from a maze full of Clockworks, to unlock Maxwell you had to complete the entire Adventures Mode and then sacrifice your current playable character to unlock him.

In Reign of Giants to Unlock Webber you had to find his skull trinket and bury it into a grave plot for lightning to strike the tombstone and bring him to be unlocked.

For Shipwrecked you had to unlock Wilbur by finding him and returning to him his crown, and to unlock Woodlegs required rescuing him from a cage needing several keys.

For Hamlet- To unlock Wilba you need to find her kingdom, kill a worm boss, and return her tiara back to her.

For DST- There has never been a secret unlockable character.. Wonkey has that chance- even if it is a “curse” I’m pretty sure the low hp Maxwell/Wes mains will find it a blessing.

You are asking for the only interesting part of the character to be taken away.

I don't think it's all that interesting. Granted, the bar is low considering how simple of a character the monkey is, but I don't think much is lost if the "kill 10 powder monkeys" part is skipped when you actually want to play the character.

In any event, I find myself comfortable spawning the cursed trinkets for whichever friends wanted to play as Wonkey right off the bat. It doesn't really hurt anyone's experience.

I definitely do NOT think it should be right off the bat.. you should have to experience it for the first time yourself. Could you imagine spawning in as Goose Woodie? Lol it should totally shock/surprise the player for the first time.

So continue to use the developer console to spawn items in. Solution is already there.

Well, yeah, that was my plan anyway. It doesn't really make a difference. I just replied 'cause I found saying the trinkets are the most interesting part of the character kind of a stretch.

Yeah, I think it's cool that it's a surprise character. Though, new players could totally join into a world where people are already Wonkey. That's kind of just the nature of a game with such open-ended progression and the ability to join at any point in the world.

He is the only character you transform into instead of pick at world start. I don't know how you don't think that's interesting, it is by far the most unique thing about any character.

it would be cool if the ability depends on the number of trinkets. for example, if there are 20 of them, then monkeys will not touch you, and if 30 you can craft a bandana and a new paddle
